Head Prefect’s Message…

The year has flown by and it is now time for us, the Primary 6s, to bid farewell to Kellock. We have been very privileged to have been in Kellock these past six years. We have forged strong friendships that would last a lifetime and our lives have been enriched with values imparted to us throughout these past six years.

As we look back at our journey in Kellock, it is definitely a memorable one. On Careers’ Day, we discovered more about the many careers out there and learnt that we are never too young to dream huge and follow our dreams. Celebrating International Friendship Day helped to instill in us respect for everyone, regardless of their creed and race. We made more friends and had an understanding of what racial harmony truly is. Kellock has given us many opportunities to develop our talents, be it in performing or visual arts, sports, uniform groups and other clubs. In addition, the various camps that we had in primary four and five helped us to be independent and resilient.

On behalf of my primary 6 peers, a huge thank you to Ms Chin, Mrs Manuel, Mrs Yap, and teachers. You have taught us many values and lifelong lessons. You have instilled in us graciousness, integrity, resilience, responsibility and respect for others. And most of all, you have shown us Love. From sharing stories and jokes to motivating and inspiring us, you have nurtured us into who we are today.

Last but not least, we would like to thank our parents for supporting us. In these past six years, you have stood beside us and encouraged us when we were down. You have been there for us since young and we hope that we have made you proud. Thank you, especially, to the Parent Support Group (PSG) for taking your time to conduct fun activities for us. We truly appreciate it and you have made a huge difference in our lives.

Lastly, I would like to end off with a quote.

“Like branches on a tree, we all grow in different directions,

On 17 August 2016, the CHIJ community in Singapore bade farewell to a beloved family member, Sr. Deirdre O’Loan, the supervisor of the CHIJ schools in Singapore.

Sr. Deirdre joined the CHIJ community in Ireland as she was drawn to the way of life of the IJ sisters and how they reached out to people through their mission. At the age of 26 in 1959, she went to Asia and arrived in Malaya to teach and start the GCE ‘A’ Levels at CHIJ Bukit Nanas.

In Singapore, Sr. Deirdre served the mission in various capacities, as a Head of English Department, Vice-principal, Principal in Catholic Junior College and Supervisor of the CHIJ schools. Sr. Deirdre had worked tirelessly in service of God and the CHIJ mission and in doing so, inspired many others. She cared deeply for each and every child and with her warm words and deeds, reminded all of God’s love.

Sr. Deirdre made people feel welcomed and valued – remembering the names of each and every one she met and listening intently to each conversation she had.

Sr. Deirdre’s selfless devotion to education is indeed a shining example of Blessed Barré’s precept “The gifts given to you are for others”. As we remember her contributions to the IJ community and beyond, let us also remember that we too are instruments of God, called to action, in living out her legacy in service of others.

1.1 Staff Movement

We welcome on board the following staff and look forward to her contributions to the school.

Miss Tan Wei Lin - Teacher

1.2 Haze Management

In the event of a haze situation, the school has put in place a school continuity plan to ensure the well-being of your child. We are ready to respond and take appropriate haze management measures based on the guidelines corresponding to MOH’s health advisory. To enable our teachers to continue to safeguard the well-being of your child while in school, please keep us updated on your child’s health status. Children, who are feeling unwell, should receive medical attention promptly. They should also have their necessary medication, such as their inhaler and asthma spacer, with them at all times, and be encouraged to drink lots of water. We would also like to inform you that the Ministry of Education is monitoring the haze situation closely, and will adjust school activities corresponding to MOH’s health advisory. As part of our haze management measures developed over the years, we would like to reassure parents that our school is equipped with air purifiers. Unless official notification is issued from MOE to close schools, schools will remain open, and all activities including examinations will continue. Parents will be given adequate notice. We thank you for your support and hope to continue to work with you to ensure that your child is safe and healthy while in school.

1.3 Dance-a-thon@Kellock 2016

We would like to thank all parents and students for your unstinting support and generosity towards Dance-a-thon@Kellock, a fund raiser in aid of the school building fund. This fund-raising project, which will be held on Saturday, 12 November 2016, will see all members of the Kellock community contributing towards this cause through exercise – using dance as a platform! We hope to see you there supporting your child and joining us for a morning of dance and for a good cause.

3.2 Values @ Play 5: Be the Change Today!

Values @ Play 5, held on 22 July, Friday, took on the theme of Olympics as this is the year of the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The 5 house values of Friendship, Integrity, Resilience, Respect and Excellence, were emphasized in the various games. Leading up to Games Day, the saints of each house was introduced and CCA leaders shared about their house value through heart-warming Olympic stories during pre-assembly. Kick-starting Games Day with the Torch Relay, our very own handmade Olympic Torch replica was passed from PE teachers to House Mistresses and finally to Mrs Manuel and Ms Chin to be mounted on the pedestal. Throughout the morning, students forged friendships with house members, respected their opponents and with resilience, strived for excellence without compromising integrity. St. Bernadette House came in as second Runners Up and St. Cecilia House came in as the first Runners Up. The Champion house for 2016 is St. Agnes House. All these would not have been possible, if not for the wonderful parent volunteers who took time out from their busy schedule to help and the secondary school student leaders from St. Theresa’s Convent, Outram Secondary, Queenstown Secondary and Gan Eng Seng Secondary who co-facilitated the games.

3.3 Read for Books

On 29 July 2016, teachers and students came together to read for a good cause. The Read for Books event is part of the nationwide reading campaign organised by the National Library Board. For every ten people who reads for 15 minutes, a book is donated to a charity of their choice. The event was an excellent platform in realising our school’s vision of making a difference in the lives of others. It is also in line with our language departments’ plans to promote a vibrant reading culture and cultivate good reading habits among our students. Through the Read for Books event, approximately 120 books will be donated to Infant Jesus Homes and Children’s Centres.

3.4 Primary 5 Teambuilding and Outdoor Adventure Camp 2016

The Primary 5 students had an amazing learning experience at their teambuilding camp from 1 August 2016 to 3 August 2016 at the MOE Labrador Outdoor Adventure Learning Centre (LOALC). The students had the opportunity to try their hand at abseiling, rock-climbing, challenge rope course, artificial

caving system and low element activities. The artificial caving system is a new feature added in the campsite for the students. During the camp, students displayed good teamwork and resilience in achieving shared goals set by the groups. The camp ended on a high note with a campfire on the second night of their stay at the campsite. The activities and challenges planned for the students provided

opportunities for them to learn and display the school values. Many of the students expressed that they had become more courageous and resilient after their camping experiences and they look forward to more outdoor learning activities.

3.5 National Day Celebrations - Building Our Singapore of Tomorrow

This year, Singapore celebrated its 51st birthday, focusing on the future of our Nation. As a lead up to National Day celebrations, all Kellock girls were given a National Day clipboard as a Souvenir and they decorated and personalized their clipboards according to the National Day Theme “Building Our Singapore of Tomorrow.” There was an overwhelming response from the students who eagerly showcased their artistic talents on their clipboards. The student with the best decorated clipboard from each level won a gift for their creative art work. The highlight of the celebrations was the National Day concert on 8 August 2016, where all our students and teachers came dressed in red and white outfits for the celebrations. The primary 1 and primary 2 students wowed the audiences with their song and dance performances, as well as Singapore cheer. The NE Ambassadors also put up a multi-racial dance for the National Day Concert. The National Day mass singing segment got the whole school on their feet, as students sang along with their teachers. The concert was further hyped up with our own Kellock wave and students having a great time bouncing giant balls around the school hall. The whole school was bursting with joy and pride for the Nation’s Birthday.

4.1 Children for Children (CfC), 6 October 2016 Children for Children (CfC) is into its 9th edition. This year, together with our partner, KidZania Singapore, we will be taking 300 children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to celebrate a very special and memorable Children's Day on Thursday, 6 October 2016, at KidZania Singapore. Encapsulating the virtuous cycle of giving and sharing between the larger community and the underprivileged, it is with this intent that CHIJ Kellock and Kidzania Singapore hope to help these children discover their innate talent and invoke their creativity through a day of fun, while reminding them that our society remembers and cares for them. The theme for CfC 2016 is ‘Dream Big’. By providing the children with the opportunity to experience various ‘career options’ through interactive and realistic role play at Kidzania Singapore, it will allow students to develop an awareness of their interests and strengths. It will also enhance their abilities and career aspirations, in relation to others and work. This will essentially pave the way for them to dream about possibilities for their future.

4.2 Primary 6 Financial Literacy Bazaar

At CHIJ Kellock, we recognise that financial literacy is an essential life skill. With the rising affluence in Singapore, it is important that our students are equipped with financial literacy skills and knowledge so that they can make responsible decisions and choices as well as develop good habits in financial matters from an early age. The school has integrated the learning of financial literacy concepts, which culminates in the Primary 6 Bazaar, into the Mathematics curriculum as well as Values in Action (VIA). This approach allows students to make connections and hence gives meaning to what they are learning and doing. Students will work in groups to plan an entrepreneur project, produce crafts for sale to school mates and staff, and present the project to their classmates and teachers. They will be taught how to use Microsoft excel in budgeting and also when working out the expenditure and sales of their products. Proceeds from the sales are given to the Infant Jesus Homes and Children’s Centres and the school building fund; hence, values such as contributing back to the school and the community are also emphasised in this financial literacy programme and VIA. This post-PSLE activity is an opportunity to develop in our girls the Kellock Girl Outcomes of thoughtful learner, servant leader and persons for others and teaching them the value of making a difference no matter how small it might be.

4.3 Primary 6 Graduation Ceremony and Party To mark the end of their memorable six years of primary school education in CHIJ Kellock, all graduating students will be attending a special and meaningful Graduation Ceremony at the school hall on Friday, 11 November 2016 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. This will be followed by a graduation lunch cum party at SAFRA Town Club, Carpenter Street. The students will have an opportunity to engage with one another and with their teachers in a less formal context. As in previous years, we are sure that our graduating students will have a very meaningful graduation ceremony and a fabulous party thereafter!

4.4 Bows & Ribbons VII 2016

The school’s annual concert, Bows & Ribbons VII will take place on Thursday 3 November 2016 at CJC Performing Arts Centre at 7.30 p.m. The concert is a celebration of Kellock’s young talents in the area of Arts. The school’s Choir, String Ensemble, Chinese Dance and Dance Ensemble will put up an exciting line-up of programme to showcase their achievements for the year. We are very pleased that members of our alumni from the school’s Choir, String Ensemble and Dance Ensemble will be back to perform with their former teammates. At this year’s Bows & Ribbons VII, there will be an Art exhibition by our graduating students from the Pottery Club, whereby their graduating pieces will be on display. Do come for Bows & Ribbons VII and give our young budding artistes the support, encouragement and affirmation needed, to see them continue with their learning journey in the Arts Education.

Looking back, our Kellock

experience has been

great. We have achieved

so much and enjoyed our

6-year long journey.

Throughout this time, we

have received a lot of

help and support from

our teachers, friends

and most importantly,

our parents.

Our parents have helped us and given us lots of useful advice. They have helped us in numerous

ways and have never given up on us. No matter what we do, we will always have their support.

They are by our side until the very end. Even though sometimes they may scold us, we know that

deep in their hearts, they truly care. They always encourage us and firmly believe that we will

make it.

We also like to thank the Parent Support Group (PSG) for organizing many activities that we

have enjoyed tremendously, adding lots of fun and laughter to our time in Kellock. They have

sacrificed their precious time for us and for that, we are truly grateful.

A big THANK YOU to our parents as well as our teachers and friends. Without you, we would

not have been able to make it this far.

Here’s a poem to all our parents to express our gratitude.

You are always there whenever,

under any type of weather.

Although sometimes you may say you don’t care,

but we know you’re always there

So now there’s only one thing to do,

and that is to say thank you!

Eloquently stated and simply put, our time in Kellock has been amazing. All the teachers we have had

from Primary 1 to Primary 6, have helped instil in us the hunger for knowledge, the passion to learn,

and also ignite the flame to set ablaze our dreams—all of which will help us to be “Simple in Virtue,

Steadfast in Duty”. These six years have been a wonderful learning experience for all of us. Through

our mistakes and achievements, we have had opportunities to initiate change and ideas that could, and

would make a difference.

We would like to thank Kellock for providing such great education for all of us. We are proud to say

that even after we have graduated and gone to our secondary schools, Kellock will still hold a special

place in our hearts for providing us with not only academic education but also more important lessons

which we will all need to succeed in life.

Furthermore, we would like to give special thanks to our principal, Ms Chin, and our vice-principals,

Mrs Manuel and Mrs Yap for being supportive in our development! And not forgetting Mrs Lim-Tan

who was our principal from Primary 1 to Primary 3.

More importantly, we want to thank our parents, who are always behind us, cheering and comforting

us through our ups and downs! Without their love and encouragement, we would not have made it to

where we are today!

“Once a Kellock girl, always a Kellock girl!”

Primary 6 Ixora

After 6 years in C.H.I.J Kellock,

primary school life for the primary 6s

has finally come to an end. Through

these 6 years, we had ups and downs in

our journey and we will treasure these

precious memories for many years to

come.

We still remember vividly stepping into

this school for the very first time, lost

and scared of what was to come. We

had so many fun times together as a class, from our adventure camp when we were in Primary 5 to

studying in the library for our looming examinations. We worked hard, had fun, and tried to make

the most out of our time here, thirty-eight Ixorians facing obstacles as one.

We still recall the happy moments from our Primary 5 Adventure Camp. This camp helped us to get

to know one another better and learn to work together as a team. We had many obstacles to

overcome, but with the help of the people around us, we could face and overcome them. We

certainly miss those precious moments as a class.

We thank our teachers, from Primary 1 to Primary 6. Our primary 1 teachers bent over backwards

to make the school as welcoming as possible, while our primary 6 teachers encouraged us in the face

of difficulties. Thank you so much for your immense dedication in your work and your incredible

patience in explaining the concepts to us endlessly and putting up with our mischievous antics.

Without your interesting and lively lessons, we would certainly not be the people we are today.

Thank you for chasing us for our homework that some of us never hand up on time and motivating us

to do our very best in whatever we do. Although sometimes it irritated us, it helped shape us into

better people.

~IJ spirit burning bright, Fill our hearts with love and light. Light that shines for all to see, Love that sets our spirits free!~

A huge shout-out goes to our parents as well. They have always encouraged us to put in more hard

work and effort to strive for better results. Thank you for being present at the various parent-

teacher conferences and being willing to find out how we fared at school. Your unconditional love,

care and constant support kept us going.

Special thanks to our librarian, aunties and uncles in the canteen and those who help to keep our

school a clean and safe environment. Without you, Kellock would not be a wonderful place for

learning to take place comfortably!

Last but not least, our sincere and heart-felt thanks to our school leaders, Ms Chin, Mrs Manuel and

Mrs Yap. Your constant care and words of wisdom encouraged us to be better students and human

beings.

It is not easy to say ‘Goodbye’. It is a very disheartening process but we know it has to come one

day. We faced our “Kellock Rollercoaster” ride well. The ride was long but the destination was well

worth it. Thank you, Kellock!

As we take time now to look back on our life in CHIJ Kellock, we realise how far we have come and

today we would like to show our appreciation to those who have played such a big part in our holistic

development.

Our Teachers : Educators - Leaders - Mentors - Nurturers

School isn’t school without our school leaders and teachers. Very often, we take them for granted.

Teachers have the most tiring jobs on earth for they have the unenviable task of having to juggle

between their academic workload and ‘mothering’ their little brood. Indeed, our teachers are always

there to provide a listening ear, helping us grow in character in whatever way they can. Their special

touch in pushing us to strive for excellence and to achieve our best is something we appreciate.

Through their radiant smiles, jokes and words of encouragement, we have gained the confidence to

face new challenges. Nothing is too small or unimportant for as long as we have been true to ourselves

that is all that matters. Our teachers believe that we must always be proud of what we can do and to

use it to make a difference.

We would also like to thank our principal, Ms Chin, our vice-principals, Mrs Manuel and Mrs Yap, for

their words of wisdom. They never fail to remind us that ‘The gifts given to you are for others’. These

words by our Founder, Blessed Nicolas Barre, are what we will take with us as we prepare for the

next milestone - life in secondary school.

Our Parents: Guardians - Pillars - Family - Foundation

The fact that we are Kellock girls did not come by chance. It was the deliberate choice made by our

parents to enrol us in this school that has made the difference in who we are today. The last 6 years

have not been easy but our parents have always been there to guide and support us through the twists

and turns of our formative years. Thank you to all our mums and dads, family caregivers and loved

ones for being there for us, showing us the sky when we could only see the ground. Thank you for

loving us for who we are and we hope to always make you proud. We want to tell you how much we

appreciate all you have done for us. Your patience and devotion to make sure that we were provided

for will never be forgotten.

In life, all good things must come to an end. It is with much regret that the time has come for us to

say goodbye to our alma mater, our beloved Kellock, which has helped shape us over the past 6 years.

The mark of a Kellock girl will always be the one distinct feature that sets us apart from others and

for this, we are grateful.

As the saying goes, ‘Once a Kellock

girl, always a Kellock girl!’ Thumbs

up for that!

How time flies when you are enjoying life to the fullest! The past six years in Kellock has been an

unforgettable and memorable journey for us. Kellock will always have a special place in our hearts as

we have spent a lot of quality time here. This is home away from home especially this year. We spent

more time with our teachers polishing up our knowledge in the various subjects. This is where many

of our friendships were forged and strengthened too. Our memorable time in Kellock will always be

etched in our minds for years to come!

We are very fortunate to have had many wonderful and caring teachers in Kellock. We like to thank

our primary six teachers who patiently guided us through this very important and crucial year and our

primary one teachers who nurtured us and were our first contact with the Kellock Family. To all our

teachers in the other levels, thank you for having faith in us and believing that we can do our best. A

huge thank you to Ms Chin, Mrs Manuel and Mrs Yap for always being there for us. Your words of

advice and wisdom mean a lot to us!

We would also like to thank our parents for their guidance and support throughout our six years in

Kellock. We are grateful to have you walk alongside us, as we journey through the many difficulties

and good times. Your helping hand has given us the strength to stand when we fall, the strength to

dream and the strength to believe we can be who we want to be.

Thank you everyone for loving the imperfect us. When we did badly for our tests or examinations,

you did not blame us, knowing we have done our best. When we did not put in our best efforts, you

encouraged us to persevere and do better. We listened and while we may not have followed your words

all the time, we know you do it because you care for us.

Thank you all for being our role model!

Terima kasih kerana mengajar kami perkara yang betul dan memperbetulkan kesilapan kami.

We recall with fondness our first day in Kellock. Friendly, smiling faces greeted us and warmly

welcomed us to Kellock. Our primary one teachers soothed our anxieties away and took us under

their care. As we progressed to the higher levels, we were taken under the wings of very caring and

wonderful teachers. Teachers who believed that we could do our best no matter what. These true

models of true blue Kellock teachers inspire us to be valuable citizens with resilience and love. This

year, our teachers persevered with us to help us to overcome our many difficulties with the various

subjects. They were always there for us no matter how busy they were. The selfless acts of our

teachers certainly shows the depths to which they will go to help us achieve the best that we can.

Our heartfelt gratitude to our school leaders, Ms Chin, Mrs Manuel and Mrs Yap. They have

certainly shown us the IJ spirit through their actions and words.

For our most beloved parents, thank you for showering us with everlasting love. You guide and nurture

us, teaching us values, which have shaped us into who we are today. Whenever we are down, you made

an effort to cheer us up. You do anything to see us standing at the peak of the mountain. As we storm

our way through the national examination this year, you probably have sleepless nights too. At times,

you make us feel less stressful by sharing jokes with us. We will do our best for the national

examination and make you feel proud of us. Thank you for being there with us through this journey

and we know that you will be with us for the journey ahead too.

Kellock holds a very special place in our hearts. This is where many great friendships were made and

meaningful relationships were built. We will always look back on Kellock as the years spent

enveloped in love and care.

Throughout our memorable time in Kellock, we have had many wonderful teachers who were very

patient and understanding. Special mention must be made of Mrs Lee (our form teacher), Miss Ow

and Mrs Teo (our Primary 5 teacher) who were very dedicated and took the time to help us through

our academic journey. We would also like to thank all our teachers from Primary One to Primary Six

who have made a difference in our lives. We really do appreciate all that you have done for us.

Special thanks to our principal, Ms Chin, our vice-principals, Mrs Manuel and Mrs Yap for guiding us

and supporting us all the way!

We would like to thank our parents for your strong support and love. No words can convey our love

to you for always being there for us. Thank you!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the two most important persons in my life:- my Daddy and Mummy for their continuous love and encouragement; and also taking their time off to be Parent Volunteers to join me for School excursions, activities and doing their part for the Tutti Frutti Stall. Estelle

Dear Mum and Dad, Both of you have played an integral part in my education these past 6 years. You made sure that I am well taken care off with clean uniforms and sufficient pocket money. You are always motivating me to do my best in the examinations. You have always been at my side during these six years. I really want to thank you for the great support that you have given me. Nicole Sim

Mum and Dad,

You are always there for me when I

needed you. You taught to respect

others and to be disciplined.

You are always willing to listen to my

stories. I love you.
