Mr V’s news...As we enter our 5th week of the school year, I already feel a great deal of satisfaction in knowing that the environment we have created at Warialda Public School is providing so many wonderful opportunities for our students. I regularly visit each classroom and it is obvious that each room is buzzing with meaningful learning experiences tailored for each child.

In 2019, a new Enrolment Policy was implemented across the Department of Education schools in NSW. The main change that parents need to be aware of is that for enrolments coming to us from outside of Warialda, you will be required to complete a simple application form. Specifi cally for our school, we have the capacity or ceiling for 253 students. In 2020, we currently have 205 students enrolled at WPS. Should you have an enrolment enquiry, simply contact the school offi ce to make an appointment with me. I thoroughly enjoy taking prospective families on tours of our amazing facilities!

Last week, our P&C hosted its Annual General Meeting. A sincere appreciation is extended to the outgoing Executive Team of Tammy Hall, Mikala Reardon and Amy McIntosh who were a dynamic leadership team over the last two years. I also want to congratulate and extend a warm welcome to the incoming team of President – Mrs Sam Prescott; Secretary – Mrs Amy Brooks and Treasurer – Mrs Kandise Acres. I look forward to working with you to achieve great things for WPS.

Last week, Miss Cole and Mrs Durkin travelled to Brisbane to participate in an amazing professional learning activity. The focus was largely upon what we call ‘evidence-based practice’ meaning that we as teachers are doing what we the evidence acknowledges to be most eff ective. I know both ladies are really excited about returning to WPS and implementing what they have learned.

On Wednesday, several keen soccer players attended the Inverell Zone Soccer Trials. All of our students tried their very best, demonstrating impressive skills and sportsmanship. A massive congratulations is extended to Pyper Dawson, Indika Gallen and Trinity Turner who were selected in this representative team to now attend the Northern NW trials on the 17th of March.

We extend our best wishes to the 12 WPS students who are today racing in Armidale for a place in the North West Swimming Team. Each of these students have trained exceptionally hard and will undoubtedly be pushing hard to wear the North West colours at the upcoming State Championships.

This Friday, we shall host our fi rst assembly of 2020 with Mrs Digby and 5/6D hosting this event. Each assembly is a lovely occasion where we can celebrate the success of students who have been identifi ed as doing great things. We are very sincere in expressing our desire for as many parents and family members as possible to join us at assemblies to be on hand and share the excitement of students receiving this acknowledgement. I look forward to seeing you there.

Finally, our fi rst PSSA knockout fi xture has been scheduled for 2020 with the Cricket Team to travel to Bingara on Thursday the 5th of March to take on talented players at Bingara Central School. The fi rst ball will be bowled at 10am with the game being played at Gwydir Oval, Bingara. We wish the whole team every success and look forward to reporting on the result.

Have a cracking good week!

Dan van Velthuizen - Principal

Dear Parent/Caregiver, We are pleased to advise that Warialda Public School is participating in Regional Australia Bank’s School Banking Program. The School Banking Program aims to instil and nurture good saving and budgeting habits from a young age. This is done through engaging and exciting ways with the added benefit of no account keeping fees! Students are invited to open an account with Regional Australia Bank, so that they are able to see their money grow, as their special deposit book is updated every time they make a deposit. This program is set to kick-off at the beginning of term two, with encouragement for all interested school students to have their accounts up and running by the end of term one. That way the participating students will be ready to commence as school returns from the Easter break. We will be collecting deposits every Wednesday from your child’s classroom with their deposit books to be returned each Friday. If you choose to open an eligible Community Partnership Program account for your child, you will also be able to nominate the Warialda Public School P&C as your recipient organisation. This means that each year, the School will receive a donation to the value of 1% of the average annual balance of your child’s (and other supporters’) account. This donation does not cost you a cent, Regional Australia Bank make it on your behalf. All we need in order to open an account for your child is the following:

Basic Account Opening Form – Available from the school office or from Regional Australia Bank’s Warialda Branch

Birth Certificate for the child (If this is not possible, the students Medicare card can be used along with a letter from the school stating their full name, date of birth and current address)

$1.00 for shares to open their membership (refundable if the account is closed) A parent/caregiver is required to be the Trustee of the account. (If the parent/caregiver is

not already a member of Regional Australia Bank, their current Driver’s licence with the correct residential address present will be required.)

Regional Australia Bank’s Warialda branch and our friendly staff will be happy to assist you in setting up the membership and supply you with your child’s savings starter pack. (If your child already has an account with Regional Australia Bank please visit the staff in the Warialda branch to receive this pack.) Warialda branch is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am-3pm. Direct enquiries can also be sent through to [email protected]. Alternatively, Regional Australia Bank staff will be available each Friday after the school assembly for the remainder of term one, to assist you with this process. Kind regards, Natasha Price & Sharon Cuell- Warialda Branch Kylie Taylor- Team Leader Warialda Branch
