Two cats and 15 dogs left us in December. Cats Muddi and Angel were adopted together and
went to the UK. Mungo, Logan, Sooty, Hawkins and Sweety all went to new homes in the UK,
Baron, Primrose, Lord, Fleur, Loopy, King, Gracie and Rachel were all adopted in Holland and
Prince and Diamond went to foster homes in Holland. Prince was being fostered by the family
who adopted Primrose and we are happy that they have now adopted him aswell. Once again we
would like to thank our adoption teams, supporters and the families who have adopted the dogs
and cats.

Jorja On the 15th December, liam and luke were
out at night in Rudozem and saw Jorja
alone on the streets. She is a very affec-
tionate girl and just wanted attention. The
boys kept her safe with them and then took
her home. The next day they brought her to
the shelter.
On the 29th December a man
turned up at the shelter with
four young pups. A street
dog had given birth near his
house . He had been feeding
the mum and pups and look-
ing out for them and brought
them to us when mum had
moved on.

Mechka On their way to work one morning, the boys spotted Mech-
ka not far from the shelter. He was wet and shivering and
was curled up at the side of the road in the snow.
Mechka is a big pup but only about four months old. He is
very friendly. Since arriving he hasn’t been eating very
well and has an upset stomach. He won’t eat dog food but
will eat cooked chicken so he is on a special diet at the
moment and antibiotics.
Inka
On the 28th December, Tony brought Inka to the shelter. She
was on a shop window ledge and a woman went over and
smacked her, knocking her off the ledge. We had seen Inka
days earlier when she was sat on the window ledge of another
shop. We had gone back in the shop to buy soft food for her
but she wasn’t interested.
After Tony saw the woman hit her, he picked her and put her
in the car.

Courage Courage is the first pup that we rescued from near the Devil’s Throat Cave. Last month he had an operation to remove
his badly damaged eye and had his ears flushed
out before starting treatment for a fungal infec-
tion. His stitches have now been removed and
he has made a full recovery. Courage is a very
loveable boy and is now available for adop-
tion.. He lives quite happily in the staffroom
with us, the other dogs and the cats. He soon
learned that one cat has to be ignored whilst
the other one will play. His only fault is that he
does still guard his food and everyone else’s so
we do have to watch him when food is about.
The rest of the time he plays happily with the
other dogs. He is very affectionate and loves to
snuggle up next to you when he is tired.

one of our other dogs or cats, please go to the

Winter is most defi-
nitely here bringing
with it the snow and
freezing tempera-
tures. Power cuts are
very common when
we get heavy snow
and often we can go
days or weeks with-
out any electricity or
mobile phone signal
and sometimes the
water will freeze so
we have to fill con-
tainers up and bring
water to the shelter.
There is no heating at
the shelter apart from
the log burner in the
staffroom where we
live and sleep with
some of the dogs and
pups.
At least now we have
a new roof so don’t have the worry of the roof collapsing under the snow, but still there is so much to do. Many of the
windows are broken or missing and there is an open front to one part of the building. We have no electric in the main
parts of the building where the dogs are so we have to adjust the daily routine according to the time of year and when we
have daylight. Hopefully when we are able to have ceilings put in and the windows replaced, this will keep a bit more
heat in. Once these things are done we can then aim for drainage, floors and proper pens and an isolation unit.
The first thing on our list of renovations is to get hot water, a sink, shower and plumbing for a washing machine. There is
only one tap and tiny sink which are in the staff room and a large water pipe in the main part of the building. If we need
hot water we have to boil water with the kettle or on the log burner. When we bath dogs or wash blankets, this has to be
done outside with a large plastic bowl. In freezing temperatures, we can’t wash blankets or dogs outside so end up with
bags of blankets that need washing and no way of washing them and dogs that desperately need bathing and nowhere to
bath them. Some of the dogs and pups that we rescue are extremely dirty and smelly as they have been living on all sorts
of rubbish just to try and keep warm. Hot water, a large sink, shower and a washing machine would really make a differ-
ence to the dogs and to us.

Help needed with vaccinations and sponsors
We have so many dogs and cats at the moment and desperately need help with vaccination donations and sponsors. All
dogs and cats have to be vaccinated and microchipped before they can leave the shelter and be adopted. Apart from this we
cannot risk leaving pups and kittens unprotected against fatal diseases. Next week we have over 30 dogs and cats that need
vaccinations or annual boosters and we still have dogs and cats on the webstore that were done some time ago and never
donated for. Sometimes dogs are adopted and their vaccination costs are never covered. We need to cover these costs to
continue making sure that all vaccinations are up to date. We also have 10 Euro vaccination vouchers on the webstore for
anyone who would like to help but cannot cover the full costs of vaccinations. Please help if you can.

Anyone that has one or two cats or dogs will appreciate how much it costs a month to care for them and just for feeding
costs alone. For 10 euros a month you can sponsor a dog/cat and help to cover their feeding costs. On average we need two
sponsors per animal to cover their monthly feeding costs. If any dog or cat has more than two sponsors this helps us to cov-
er the costs for dogs and cats that aren’t sponsored and to feed the animals that are still on the streets. At the moment we
have 41 dogs and 12 cats who aren’t sponsored at all. That is a lot of dogs and cats to feed every month without any help
towards feeding costs. Please help if you can by sponsoring a dog or cat.

Pic of the month Our daughter Sam and 3 year old
grandaughter Nikita, were here
for a week earlier in December.
It was lovely to see them but in
sad circumstances. They had to
get here quickly from England
for a funeral after the unexpected
death of Nikita’s daddy. It isn’t
something that you can easily
explain to a 3 year old, so for
now she has been told that her
Daddy has gone to The Rainbow
Bridge to look after Gingerpuss
and the other animals. This pic-
ture of Nikita and Bigdog was
taken just days later which to me
made it all the more poignant.
