Potters Thatchers Maths maths maths ! Subtraction using number lines and mental strategies, brilliant maths challenges all completing. Explorers role play really taken off with icicle making and ice fishing ! Finding out about polar explorers, using the globe and making maps. All Potters doing really well with new Sounds Write unit this week !
Another wonderful week this week. Potters and
Thatchers worked together for science. On Tuesday a
lost penguin turned up at the classroom door and
the children have been working together to write
diary entries to recount what happened. Please
discuss the four compass points so the children can
use them to navigate the continents in geography.
Have a lovely weekend.
Weavers Foresters We have been gathering facts and writing about the River Nile. We have sketched figures in art and had a first go at making a ‘shaduf’ – an Ancient Egyptian machine for lifting water. On Thursday, Weavers and Foresters worked together with a big debate – Should we ban children heading the ball in football? – wow we really do have some convincing speakers, I was very impressed. Although it was a 50-50 result, we did all agree that we do need to take care of our heads.
We have been learning to multiply 3 digit numbers by
2 digit numbers. In English, we’ve been exploring
‘Who let the Gods out?’ by Maz Evans and in art
we’ve begun sketching ideas for our Greek pots we’ll
be making soon. With Weavers, we were debating
the news story… ‘Should children be heading a ball in
football games?’ It was a 50-50 result, with some
very thought provoking comments.
Dear parents,
Term 3 really is in full swing. I have been popping in and out of many lessons this week, as well as
teaching in 3 classes and I see so many children engaged in their work and enjoying their learning. It
really is great to see.
Unfortunately, our football finals were postponed this week due to the weather – they will now take
place on the 28th.with all the same arrangements.
As I reported last week, all children are having increased daily number work – KS1 are currently
looking at embedding their number bond facts and KS2 embedding multiplication and division facts
based on their times tables for example, ___ x 8 = 16 or 24 ÷ __ = 12. Twenty questions with a timed
element. Please do support your child and practise regularly alongside their daily reading.
As always, please do speak to your child’s class teacher or myself, if you have any concerns about your
child.
