It was a great turn out for our evening
demonstration last month. Ben Beddows
provided a great insight to pyrography
demonstrating different techniques and
different wire tips. Members then had a
chance to have a go and trial some
techniques. It’s always lovely to see
something different being demonstrated.

Aziz will be selling his exotic woods.

Summer Skittles Evening – last chance for tickets
The June Club Night is the last evening to pay for tickets for out Skittles Night and Buffet on Friday 21st
July. Please see Richard Peglar for more details.
The evening has been booked for Friday 21st July at the Cat and Fiddle Pub. Tickets, including both the
skittles and the buffet, are £7.50 each. Please arrive from 7:00pm to organise drinks – the skittles will start
at 7:30pm and the buffet is booked for 8:00pm. This will be a super-fun evening – do come along and
meet other club members. Please see Richard Pegler at Club Nights to purchase tickets - partners are
welcome to attend too! Tickets are selling fast – don’t miss out on the fun!
Annual Show and Competition
As we are already into June, the Annual Show and Competition is approaching. For new members, this is
our largest ‘showcase’ of the year where woodturned items are on display from the competition, items are
on display in a members’ gallery plus items are on sale with some tables from other clubs. During the
Annual Show, which is normally very well attended, 3 lathes are being used for demonstration all day.
Please do enter the Annual Show Competition – remember that there are three groups: beginners,
intermediates and advanced. All items are welcome to be entered.
The 2017 Competition categories are:
• Open (Anything woodturned)
• Something Coloured
• A Vase of Flowers (we’re hoping the vase and the flowers will be turned)
• A Bowl or Platter (max diameter 12” or 305mm)
There are awards available for:
• The Kevin Morgan Trophy - The Best In Show
• The John Taggart Trophy - The Best Bowl or Platter
• The Bill Bolt Trophy – The Best Beginner’s Item
• The Ken Wilson Trophy - The Visitors’ Choice (visitors to the Competition get to vote for their
favourite item)
The First, Second, Third and Highly Commended entries are awarded with a certificate and the winners of
each category will receive an engraved glass prize. There is an entry form on the Club Website and a
paper copy will be sent out with future copies of the newsletter.
Let’s make 2017 the biggest Competition entry ever! Your entries are needed!
Thank yous…
A big thank you to Club members who organised, setup, manned and packed up the Club’s Stall last
Saturday at the Exmouth Festival Traditional Day. Also, another big thank you to members who
volunteered on Saturday to provide tuition for the beginners’ tuition sessions.
