The fun of Valentine’s Day offers a great opportunity for children to practice some of the skills and concepts they have been working on the first half of the school year. We keep our writing and art centers well stocked so the children can make Valentines throughout the month; this typically includes a lot of cutting practice, writing practice, letter recognition, etc. Math games are so much fun when you can use candy hearts as counters, and Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to review what it means to be a good friend and classmate. So please make sure to check your child’s backpack… chances are good that you will find a homemade Valentine or two! We will celebrate Valentine’s Day with our school friends during our class parties the week of February 13th. Pirate Day (Wednesday February 17th) is always a fun day… we all dress like pirates, read about pirates (What is true? What is a myth? ), learn some pirate lingo and practice our writing and math skills by making and following a treasure map! Can our pirates find the hidden treasure? We will find out on February 22… I’m betting these smart pirates will! Our students also have fun (and practice their math, language and critical thinking skills) as they follow Punxsutawney Phil’s weather predication regarding the arrival of spring! Unfortunately, last year they reached the conclusion that Phil was mistaken as we experienced cold and rainy weather through April. We can only hope that Phil does a better job this year and does not see his shadow on Groundhog’s Day…. and the early spring prediction really comes true!! Thank you to all our generous families who have already donated some wonderful items… if there is clothing that has been outgrown in your house, we would love to include it in our sale. Items may be dropped off outside the Nursery School office. Thank You!

The month of March offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the first day of Spring! We discover with the children all the changes in our environment as the new season arrives. We love having the chance to spend more time outdoors and open our classroom windows to let the fresh air in! The month of March also finds the STNS staff and students on “high alert” because we always have naughty leprechauns visit the school around St. Patrick’s Day. We find little leprechaun footprints on the classroom tables and floors, chairs tipped over, clear water turned green, and our snacks eaten! We try our best to capture these mischievous visitors with leprechaun catchers we have made in school, but have never been able to trap one...maybe this will be the year!

Wednesday March 15th is Sports Day… our Muscle Room gets transformed into an arena and we hold our very own STNS Olympics! Please send your child dressed in their favorite sports attire (and yes, tutus and gymnastic outfits are definitely considered sportswear here at STNS!).

Spring Break is the week of March 27th. School will resume on Monday, April 3rd. I hope everyone has the opportunity to rest, relax and enjoy some sunshine and family time during this week off!

Blessings,

Emily Keiser Director

Meaningful Moments Wednesdays from 10am to noon, Thursdays (monthly) at 6:15 pm

Parenting is hard work. It can be the

most meaningful and the most

shaming work we engage in, sometimes in the same hour. Few

things make us feel worse than when

we feel like a bad mother or father.

And we all have those moments. The

best antidote to the voices that say we aren’t good enough, is the company

of others who understand our struggle.

Join Pastor Mary and other parents for

gatherings where we safely explore

the challenges of parenting. We also take time to nurture other parts of our

lives as well - work, spirit, partnering,

and more.

An offering of St. Thomas Church, led by Pastor Mary Laymon. To learn

more about this program email Mary
