Students selected to dance at Conference On Wednesday the 28th April Year 7 students, Thomas McKenna

and Chantelle Walton, travelled to the City of London Academy in Islington to take part in a full-day collaborative dance workshop.

Thomas and Chantelle will be performing the piece with 12 other students from six other academies, to Principals and teachers from other Academies at the Annual Academies Conference on Friday 9th July.

The Harefield Academy’s students were so focused and enthused throughout the day. They danced with great passion and showed a great

aptitude for the performing art. Watch out for these two rising stars in the world of dance and good luck for the final performance in July.

drying competition and linking themselves with one of the industry's top celebrities. The girls visited John Frieda's salon in Mayfair in April

and the day went exceptionally well and some girls may be offered first-class training from the London salon in the future.

They have also been showing off their Blow-drying skills in The Scissorhand Awards. Students travelled to Stockley Academy and

were runners up in the competition by only one mark. Congratulations should go to Daisy Robinson, Year 9, and Rebecca

Lovelock, Year 11, who were awarded best Blow-dry for their Year group.

Diplomats attend Youth Conference Our students made a valuable contribution to the Hillingdon Youth Conference in April by successfully working with other students and

discussing their thoughts on the community and education with local Councillors. The day included speeches from influential members of the

council, a question and answer time, and the democratic election process to shortlist the MYP candidates.

Their hard work culminated in an event at the Winston Churchill Hall on March 18th when they delivered a presentation on their favourite book to

a hall full of students from fifteen other schools, librarians, General Mills staff and the Mayor of Hillingdon.

They all found it a little scary but they managed to deliver a brilliant presentation followed by sighs of relief and smiles when it was all over.

attended a training session on Shared Decision Making. The

Grubb Institute worked with the students looking at the importance of shared decision

making and discussed where this happened in their every day lives.

Staff have also got involved with the Institute and had their very

own training session to help improve the way they work

together and make decisions around The Harefield Academy.

The Harefield Academy students and staff were lucky enough be visited by a

holocaust survivor and had time to listen to his moving account of the dark days he encountered surrounding World War II.

Roman Beacher came in to speak to GCSE Lifeskills, History and Ethics students in Year 9 and 10. Roman himself was a young boy when the Nazi’s came to Poland. His mother worked hard to get him false papers, and as he

freely admitted he would not have been alive had this not been the case. The students were given the opportunity to ask questions to Roman about

forgiveness and the impact of the effect on his faith and how he approaches life, which he answered thoughtfully and honestly.
