With the implementation of 5S + Kaizen throughout the entire YHI Group, YHI recognises that a culture of innovation is the primary source of competitive edge, and can reap returns steadily over the years. As frequently reiterated by our Group Managing Director, Mr Richard Tay, during the quarterly 5S + Kaizen audits within subsidiaries, “5S is our foundation while Kaizen is our ultimate direction!” Though YHI values innovation, we will need more than just new ideas, freshly minted teams, and management pep talks. We will need to establish the kind of culture that is conducive to sustain innovation — one that enables innovation to become part of our company's DNA, rather than being yet another “flavour of the month”. Creating this kind of breakthrough-friendly culture cannot be accomplished overnight and it requires company-wide commitment and determination. The critical success factor lies with our “Ingenious Leadership” – Invoking Innovation in others. We owe our success to our Heads of subsidiaries’ and their management teams who are continually looking at the big picture and reinventing the way they ignite, foster, and sustain the culture of innovation. They are fully aware that the future of YHI depends on new ideas which in turn depend on their ability to establish the kind of environment in which these new ideas can be originated, communicated, developed, and eventually brought to fruitful implementation. Pep talks are not enough, neither are slogans, posters or the occasional article in the notice board or YHI newsletter. What is needed is something very different — managers who not only walk the talk, but are actually role-models of what it means to be a breakthrough innovator. Being part of the management team in YHI, the challenge ahead of us is clear. To create the breakthrough workplace of the future of YHI, we have to constantly ask ourselves: If we say “yes” to any of questions, we are ready for Ingenious Leadership. After conducting many rounds of “5S + Kaizen” audit in the past few years, those who always achieve excellent results during the audits are those departments led by leaders with Ingenious Leadership. With market boundaries becoming more and more globalised, YHI is being strategised to compete based on our ability to innovate successfully. With the implementation of 5S + Kaizen throughout the entire YHI Group, YHI recognises that a culture of innovation is the primary source of competitive edge, and can reap returns steadily over the years. YHI (New Zealand) is pleased to announce that Advanti Racing is the ‘Official Wheel Supplier’ for NZV8, New Zealand’s largest touring car championship - a defining testament of the confidence in Advanti Racing wheels in a world class scene.

NZV8, the official New Zealand’s premier motor racing category, marked one of the high profile race in New Zealand. The race, which features Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon cars, draws large crowds at all rounds of the series and also enjoys significant television and print media coverage. The race kicks off from the North through the South with seven rounds of competition starting in November 2009 and ending the

season with the Endurance Championship at Hampton Downs in June 2010.

In April, the People’s Daily’s car magazine arm, Motor Trend, held its ‘2010 China’s Auto Aftermarket Summit’ in Beijing. During this event, YHI’s Advanti Racing Wheels was honoured to receive Motor Trend’s “2010 China’s Most Recommended Brand for the Auto Aftermarket” Award. YHI Advanti Manufacturing (Shanghai)’s Sales Manager, Mr Xian Jun Tai, represented YHI at the Award Presentation Ceremony.

Advanti Racing wheels’ are widely recognised and recommended by many media in China and are often chosen for tyre testing to ensure the test accuracy. Such strong media support is a testament to Advanti Racing being a quality brand.

For the first quarter of 2010, Konig has been actively participating in wholesale and dealers’ trade shows as part of its marketing strategy to build better rapport with its business partners and reach out to more customers directly to increase market presence.

In February, Konig participated in two trade shows for its Good Roads customer held in Tampa and Miami, Florida as well as the Keystone Big Show in New Jersey. March brought the opportunity for Konig to take part in the World of Wheels in Boston, Massachusetts and April will be the Big O Tire Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. These trade shows provided an ideal

platform to introduce Konig’s range of premium wheels to the industry players and motoring enthusiasts and thus help Konig’s customers to grow their own customer base.

YHI (Singapore)/Yokohama’s Dealers’ Award Presentation Dinner 2009/2010 was held on 17 April at The Regent Singapore. This annual event is held to show appreciation to our top dealers in Singapore for their continual strong support for Yokohama tyres.

During the event, recognitions were given to Top 20 Dealers and one Institutional Dealer. In addition, awards were also presented to More Than One Million Dollar Achievers, Quarter Million Dollars Achiever and Half Million Dollars Achievers. Similar to last year, dealers who achieved one million dollars and above purchases were also awarded with “YHI Prestige Partner” status. Award recipients for “YHI Prestige Partner” are LS Tyres & Automotive Pte Ltd, Beng Heng Tyres & Batteries Services and Kim Hoe Tyre & Battery.

Mr Norio Karashima, President of Tire Global Sales & Managing Corporate Officer, Mr Takaharu Fushimi, Deputy General Manager of Tire Overseas Sales & Marketing Division of Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd, Mr Takeshi Imai, President of Yokohama Asia Company Ltd and Mr Takashi Matsui, Managing Executive Officer of Sanko Progress Mabis Corporation joined Mr Richard Tay, Group Managing Director of YHI to grace this event.

Besides enjoying a sumptuous dinner, guests were enthralled by a host of captivating performances including a comedy show and the Oriental Surprise fashion show. Lucky draw segments lined up with attractive prizes held at intervals throughout the night added to the overall celebratory mood.

YHI (Australia) held its National Branch Managers’ Meeting on 27 February in Sydney. Mr David Chen and Mr Leon Chen of YHI (Power) were invited to the meeting as well. YHI (Australia) also played host to special guests from PT Multistrada, Mr Joko Mintono, General Manager and Mr Yatiman, R&D Manager.

In line with our strong conviction for an all-out push of 5S + Kaizen program to raise the bar of YHI Group companies’ competitiveness, YHI Head Office took the opportunity to introduce the concept of 5S + Kaizen to our Australian Team. Ms Amy Soo, YHI’s General Manager, Group HR / Admin, 5S & Kaizen, gave a lively presentation on the concept of 5S + Kaizen and the benefits it has brought to the YHI manufacturing and distribution companies that have put them into practice. Apart from presenting on the latest wheels’ designs and future developments of YHI Manufacturing plant in Malaysia, Mr Sean Chiang, Sales & Marketing Manager of YHI Manufacturing (Malaysia) also shared

about the execution of 5S in the factory and how it drives staff’s innovation and entrepreneurial spirit to a higher level. T h e i n t e r a c t i v e s h a r i n g session has provided much valuable knowledge and insights for a l l senior managers. Mr Tony Suhan, Managing Director, wrapped up the meeting with positive notes and urged all to embark on their 5S + Kaizen journey to success with full support of the 5S + Kaizen Committee led by Mr Mup Tadi!

At YHI Manufacturing Group, reduction in operating costs, increase in operational efficiency and profits, better customer satisfaction level are some examples of benefits that have been reaped through the practice of continuous improvement. At YHI Manufacturing (Malaysia), staf f from the Sales & Marketing Department band together to reinvent their traditional ways of doing things. They gave less than satisfactory produced wheels ‘a new lease of life’ by turning them into revenue generating products again. To illustrate, such wheels are re-worked upon instead of the usual way of undergoing re-melting process. This initiative has not only helped in reducing the rejection rate, it has also saved the Company more than RM 80,000! For the less popular wheels, new color schemes were developed to give the wheels new coatings, thus offering more choices for customers as well as re-modifying molds

that saved the Company USD 6,000 needed for every new mold development.

Seen as a good marketing platform to showcase its range of tyre products, the event venue was prominently dressed up with Yokohama banners with Yokohama drive series, decibel, Geolandar H/T-S and Advan S.T. on display. Yokohama freebies such as sunshades and Advan keychains were given away as souvenirs during the event. YHI booth was kept busy with many enquires on our range of tyres.

In this constantly changing society, solving a problem, introducing a product, or reengineering a process all require seeing the world in a new light. In the absence of learning, companies and individuals simply repeat old practices.

As YHI Group constantly strives to better ourselves to gain an edge over our competitors, continuous learning and upgrading through a broad range of staff training activities is a top priority.

At YHI Manufacturing (Malaysia), a series of 5S & Kaizen training sessions to achieve the objective of enhancing employees’ awareness in 5S & Kaizen implementation was carried out for new and existing employees.

Conducted by Mr Gui Hock Liang, Manager from Management Division, new staff were introduced to 5S & Kaizen concepts during their first day of orientation program. This is to ensure that they are able to give their full participation and contribution to 5S & Kazien activities immediately once on their jobs. For existing employees, 5S & Kaizen trainings are centered on transformation – the difference between before and after. Pictures speak louder than words. Photos and videos from YHI (Shanghai), YHI (Suzhou), YHI (Taiwan) and Enkei provided powerful training materials with live examples.

YHI Manufacturing (Malaysia) always believes in ‘Safety First, and Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility’. To enhance employees’ safety awareness, YHI Manufacturing (Malaysia) embarked on two training sessions relating to safety at workplace. In the “Emergency Response Team” training led by the Fire Department Officer, participants underwent theory as well as practical lessons to learn about the techniques in operating firefighting apparatus. In order to achieve ‘0’ Industrial Accident for year 2010, production employees, especially foreign workers, were trained on “Respiratory Safety”. A professional trainer was engaged to familiarize participants on respiratory safety, including using and maintaining respiratory protection equipment.

Even though the trainings were conducted after working hours, all trainees were totally engrossed in the learning process as evident by their active participation. YHI (Taiwan) recognized that education is one of the ‘lethal weapons’ to ensuing economic success in our modern society. Japan’s Matsushita Electric Company has a famous saying “Produce talents before products”. Its founder, Mr Matsushita further stressed, “A genius entrepreneur always put staff development and training on top of his agenda”. To be always at the forefront, YHI (Taiwan) implemented a series of in-depth training programs for its executive level.

For 5S + Kaizen, YHI (Taiwan) invited Ms Amy Soo, General Manager for Group HR to conduct the second training session on ‘The Fifth Discipline’. Through Ms Amy’s explanation coupled with the training material, trainees were able to pick up new ideas for application at their work and company.

In addition, to leverage on Government’s grants for staff education and training, the Company also arranged its executive staff to attend the workshop on ‘Stress and Emotion Management’. It allows participants to better understand what kind of behavior are tell-tale signs of stress and the ways to de-stress. Another interesting workshop on ‘Internal Instructor Training’ has taught participants how to formalize lesson plans to achieve better learning and through interactive classroom role-plays, they also gained valuable insights on factors that affect the effectiveness and training standard levels of instructors.

Through training activities, YHI (Taiwan) looks forward to inculcate a more positive staff attitude and self-discipline at work so as to create a harmonious workplace, increase job satisfaction and sense of achievement, establish a pro-active learning culture, thereby building a strong foundation to grow the business to new heights.

台湾友发意识到教育是现代经济社会大背景下的“杀手锏”,谁拥有它谁就预示着成功;日本松下电器公司有一句名言:“出产品之前先出人才”, 其创始人松下幸之助更是强调:“一个天才的企业家总是不失时机地把对员工的培养和训练摆上重要的议事日程。”有鉴于此,台湾友发也不落人后地在干部培训面做了一系列深度的通识课程培训。

在5S及改善方面,邀请了集团人资苏维贤总经理来台湾进行二次的第五项修练培训,除了课堂上讲师的授课外,同时搭配『第五项修练』故事书的内容,让所有学员发表读后心得对工作及公司的运用点。

另外,搭上 政 府 补助 企 业 教 育训 练 款 的列 车,公司 也分 别 让 干 部们 有 机 会 学 习『压 力 与 情 绪 管 理 』,使 参 与 干 部 们 了解 到 什么 样 的行 为反 应,即 代 表 着压 力 承受 到临 界点,并应 透 过何 种 方 式 来 进 行调 整 降 压。而 另 一 堂 精 彩 课 程『 内 部讲 师 培 训 』,则 让 参 与 干 部 学习 到 如 何 让 教 案 制 度 化,让 课 程 可 以传 承;同 时,透 过 课 堂 演 练, 干部们也学习并认知到有哪些是降低讲师水平的重要因素。

台湾友发希望通过培训来培养员工共同做事的行为规范t学习习惯,能够自觉地按照惯例工作。从而形成良好、融洽的工作氛围,增强工作满意度和成就感,为企业建立积极的学习文化,确保业务的有效开展打下基础。

With the theme of “Masquerade Night”, more than 300 staff immersed themselves in the fun-filled Annual Dinner and Dance 2009 Night held jointly by YHI (Malaysia), Evo-Trend and YHI Manufacturing (Malaysia) on 15 May at Hotel Holiday Inn, Glenmarie. It was truly a night to remember which commenced with an inspiring speech by our Group Managing Director, Mr Richard Tay, encou rag i ng a l l s t a f f to r a l l y w i th “One YHI, One Family” and give their best to raise the performance bar even higher. Deserving employees proudly received their long-service awards and Best Employee awards.

The merry-making continued throughout the evening with staff vying wholeheartedly in the “Karaoke Contest”, “ Inte r Company Staf f Per fo rmance Compet i t ion” and the ever popu la r and highly anticipated “Lucky Draw”. YHI (Malaysia) won the Best Group Performance Award with its captivating and hilarious song and dance item which received thunderous applause. All too soon, the revelry came to an end with everyone going home with beaming smiles and lucky draw prizes.

Once again, YHI (Singapore) held its much anticipated Annual Dinner & Dance 09/10 on 6 March at Jurong Country Club.

Spontaneous staff’s participation proved to be the highlight of the evening. Themed as ‘Retro Nite’, many were sported in attention grabbing 60s to 80s’ retro outfits and head dresses, drawing many photo opportunities amidst good-natured ribbing and laughter amongst fellow colleagues. The celebrative mood permeated throughout the night with entertainment ranging from song and dance performance, magic show, stand-up comic act and hilarious stage games.

Other highlights included the annual award presentation for long service employees, Best Employee and Best Management Employee awards were also presented to deserving staff. Everyone thoroughly

enjoyed the night of celebration and went home with fond memories and a bumper crop of lucky draw prizes.

On sunny Sunday morning on 25 April, YHI Recreation Club brought members of YHI (Singapore) along with their families to experience rainforest hiking and Tree Top Walk at one of the last primary forests in Singapore.

The highlight of the event was the Tree Top Walk which features a free-standing suspension bridge connecting the two highest points, Bukit Peirce and Bukit Kalang, in MacRitchie, measuring 25m from the forest floor.

Everyone was beaming with exhilaration after more than two hours of hiking in fresh air amidst the spectacular view of the rainforest canopy and the community of plants and animals that live within.

4月25日,在一个阳光明媚的星期日上午,友发休闲俱乐部组织友发(新加坡)成员与其家属一起去新加坡的原始森林公园体验雨林远足。

这次活动的亮点是游览新加坡麦里芝蓄水池公园的树间吊桥,这座独立的吊桥距森林地面25米高,连接着麦里芝的柏斯山和加冷山这两个最高点。

两个小时的徒步旅行,大家都尽情地呼吸着清新的空气,欣赏着沿途热带雨林美景,并观赏其特有的动植物,每个人脸上都洋溢着兴奋和满足感。

On 24 January, YHI Recreation Club saw a sizeable turnout of more than 60 members and their families at Starbowl Singapore to participate in the annual bowling competition where everyone gathered to pit their bowling skills once a year.

After a tough fight among participants, Mr Tor Poh Kok won the Men’s Individual Champion while Top Scorer award went to Mr Brian Goh. Ms Chong Mei Yen walked away as the Women’s Individual Champion and the Champion Team went to Planet Venus. The Couple Team Champion, a newly created category to encourage more team-based competition, was awarded to Mr Brian Goh and Ms Perlin Tan.

As a breakthrough from the past bowling events, there was a birthday celebration specially held for all members whose birth dates fall within the month of January. All were treated to a delectable buffet spread at the end of this warm and friendly match.

1月24日,60多名员工和他们的家人欢聚在新加坡Starbowl,参与了友发休闲俱乐部举办的年度保龄球比赛,展示他们的保龄球技。经过激烈的角逐,卓保国先生赢得了男子组个人冠军,而最佳得分选手是吴文育先生。钟美雁小姐则捧走了女子组个人冠军奖杯,冠军队则被金星队摘得。另外本次比赛还增设了双人组,目的在于鼓励团队合作精神。吴文育先生和陈惜慧小姐不负众人所望,获得了双人组冠军。 与以往的保龄球活动不同,本次活动还特地为所有在1月份出生的成员搞了一个特别的生日庆祝活动。在欢乐而温馨的比赛结束后,大家有说有笑地享用美味可口的自助餐。
