“DRILLING-101:

Everything a Geoscientist needs to know

about Well Engineering but was afraid to ask

Thursday 25th September

London Petrophysical Society Newsletter Issue 04&05 2014

On Thursday 25th September 2014 the London Petrophysical Society will be holding a

one-day seminar entitled Drilling-101; Everything a Geoscientist needs to know about

Well Engineering but was afraid to ask at the Geological Society, Burlington House,

London. This is the latest in our line of "Basic FE" seminars, and is intended as an intro-

duction to Well Engineering for Petrophysicists and other Geoscientists. This one-day

seminar will provide a basic understanding and vocabulary for professionals from a wide-

variety of backgrounds and it should work to improve the way we can work together as a

team to achieve safe and successful wells.

This is a Call for Abstracts for presentations from Oil & Gas Companies, Service Com-

panies, Independent Consultants, Academia and other interested parties on the topic. The

seminar will consist of a series of themed talks each lasting between 20 and 25 minutes,

with five to ten minutes for questions. We also hope that we will be able to give a set of

the abstracts and the presentation slides (either as presented or edited) to the participants

after the event.

We are looking for talks covering topics such as;

Well Planning

Rig types

How a drilling rig works

Drilling and coring bits

Drilling fluids and the circulation system

Directional drilling

Casing, Liners and Cementing

Completions and testing

Mud logging

The impacts and implications for Petrophysics and Geoscience

This seminar is intended for general technical interest (as opposed to sales or marketing)

and we request that the talks are kept technical in nature, with the use of generic rather

than trade names.

Abstracts should be up to 300 words and may include one or two illustrations and sub-

mitted in Word Document or Adobe PDF format.

Please send you abstracts to; [email protected], or any member of the LPS

committee. You can also contact Mike if you have any questions or suggestions.
