The pipeline contents are recovered by a

special conto ured plug, the " pig" , which is

moved by a propellant. This method of

batch separation is used in man y ind ustries

on a wide variety of products. All I.S.T. pigs

and fittings are manufactured to th e

highest possible stand ards, in ord er to en -

sure tha t the o ptimum pigging results are

always achieved.

This catalogue provides outline details for

all I.S.T. compo nen ts and should ena ble

you to plan the initial configuration of th e

Description of a typical pig cleared process flow system.

This flow scheme gives an over view of h ow the ra nge o f eq uipment in th e Cat alogue cou ld be con -

The pig load ing a nd unload ing stations (T 29 & T 39) are po sitioned at the pig launchin g stations.

Tee-pieces (T 10), Tee-sleeve valves (T 01), Tee-rin g valves (T 09), Three-way valves an d differen t

The d ischa rge o f the products can then take place th rou gh bar rel filling valves (T 50), Tee-ring

T-sleeve valve T 01

F I T T I N G S

The T-sleeve valve is a h igh ly versat ile fit ting. Itserves as a piggable T-piece, a n in ter lock device

and as a pig launching and receiving station.

This patented valve is available both as manual

(with han d lever) an d automa tic version ( with

actuator).

The T-branch can be locked with a sliding sleeve

and the straight passage can be pigged pocket-

free. The slidin g sleeve is simple in operatio n

an d the seals are designed to have a long service

life.

The T-sleeve valve funct ion s as a pig la un chin gand receiving station when a pig stop insert is

installed. This station can be equipped with con-

tamination control and other accessories (pig

locators, pig sensors, pressure relief etc.).

T-ring valve T 09

The T-ring valve h as th ree f unct ions: P igga ble

T-piece, pro duct isolation valve an d pig stop. It

is possible to use it as a single fitting or as a

part o f a man ifold a ssembly. The T-ring valve is

operated autom atically. Its straight through pas-

sage can be pigged pocket free when the valveis closed . The T-bran ch is open ed b y the slidin g

ring that also serves as pig catcher. Moreover,

cont amina tion is avoided by a spring-balan ced

seal design.

The T-piece is pigga ble in the straight passage.During the pigging process the special T-bra nch

is completely sealed by the lips of the pig. The

fitting can also be equipped with a pig stop tha t

serves as a buffer for one and two pig systems.

The T-piece is a welded fitting, especially suit-

able for non stand ard d esigns, inner diameters,

heating jackets etc.

This pig station is applicable for one and two

pig systems. It can be o perated both man ually

or automatically. It is equipped with a pig stop

insert tha t catches the pig. This insert can be re-

moved for pig chan ge. Sockets for propellant as

well as electrical an d m anua l pig sensing can be

installed ind ividually. In ord er to avoid the pig

being pulled out of its position due to product

turbulence a pig retainer can be m ounted.

Filter with pig launching and receiving station T 26

This fitting combines the functions of a filter, apiggable T-piece and a pig launch ing a nd receiv-

ing station . Pigging is possible up to th e filter in-

sert. The filter is a reversible-flow filter that can

be changed quickly. Moreover, it is available in

various mesh sizes.


Pig launching and receiving station T 35 with 90° branch

In pr inciple, this station has the same function

as the T 10.3. The d ifference is tha t th e T 35 ha s

no removable pig stop insert and therefore the

station canno t be open ed. This has the effect of

reduced unpigged volumes. The risk of conta-

mination is reduced. The station has a relative-

ly low weight. This stat ion is often used for hose

connections where unload ing of th e pig is not

necessary.

Plunger valve T 43

The P lunger valve T 43 can do se single pr od uct

componen ts into the pigga ble line. The flow in

the branch is controlled by a piston. In the

closed position th e piston closes exactly to t hepipe's inner wall and thus leaves a pocket free

passage for the pig. The Plunger valve has a

double acting pneumatic actuator with spring

return so that in case of emergency an imme-

diate closing of th e station is guaranteed. The

no n-piggable bra nch can ea sily be cleaned by

special rinsing conn ections.

Straight shape

Loading valve T 50

The loading valve is designed for filling of

drums and other containers with a bungh ole

> 60 mm. The pig pushes the product directly

into th e filling station. Thus the con tents of the

no n-piggab le area are fully dra ined . The load -

ing valve can handle various filling operations

such as top level, bottom level and bottom

bun ghole filling. This valve design a llows a fu lly

autom ated piggab le filling plant to be achieved.


AB 1

The loading lance is a fitting for application inpiggable filling plants. It is mounted at the end of

a loading arm and allows pipeline pigging

through the complete loading arm. The pig can

transport the product into the loading lance or

back into the initial source tank.

The fitting is equipped with a level control switch.

This enables the product to be tran sported back

to the ta nk after load ing and overfilling of tank

trucks or wagons etc. is avoided. D ue to the fact

tha t the load ing arm is fully piggable, it is possible

to fill several different prod ucts through the sameloading arm. Prod uct flow is contro lled b y a sli-

ding sleeve installed in the loading lance. This

sleeve is operated by instrument air (positions

open/closed/throttle). In case of emergency air

failure, the load ing lance is closed automatically

by spring.

The loading lance achieves optimum functiontogether with the piggable Loading arm t 91.(below)

With the loading arm T 91 pigging through the

arm into th e filling valve is possible. It has large

positioning possibilities that can be ad apted indi-

vidually. Special con structions for to p level an d

bottom level filling are possible, as well as a suc-

tion device for the filling process. The loading

arms are available with mechan ical or pneumat ic

level balancing.

Pig launching and receiving station T 16

This station can also be used for both one and

two pig systems. It is equipped with a pig stop in-

sert. Int erna l and external b ypasses can be fit-

ted to a llow rinsing/dr ying of pigs at th e end o f

th e pigging sequen ce. With h elp of th e I.S.T.

sliding coupling it is easy to con nect the T 16 to

the pig loading and unloading station T 29.


Pig trap T 17

The pig t rap is designed to cat ch th e pig within

the pipeline. With th is simple fitting th e pig can

be stopped at any desired position. Thus, it is

also po ssible to pig o nly parts of the pipeline. Itcan be a pplied to both one a nd two pig systems.

It can b e operated man ually (hand lever), or

automatically.


Straight shape

The pro duct can flow straight throug h th is fit-ting whilst the pig is retained by the inter na l pig

stop ring. It can be applied to both o ne and two

pig systems. In o rder to r inse the pig the station

can be eq uipped with internal and external by-

passes. Thus, it is possible to clean the pig as

well as the no n pigga ble area. After th e filling

and cleaning process the pig is propelled back

into the launching station.

Pig loading and unloading station T 29

This station ensures safe loading and unloadingof the pigs. On the load ing/unloa ding side it is

eq uipped with I.S.T. sliding co uplings (ma le

and female part) that facilitate a q uick and safe

unloading. After opening the pig can easily be

removed from the oversize section of t he sta-

tion. In ord er to avoid an unauthorised opening

of the station it can be locked mechanically or

pneumatically. With special accessories it can be

secured by a safety control. The pipeline side

can be equipped either with a flange or a fe-

ma le sliding coup ling. For safety reasons I.S.T.recommen ds the use of this station .

With this station th e loading and unloading of

the pig from a pipe system is also easy, fast and

safe. A part of th e station can be swivelled out o f

the pipeline. Thus, a pressure free loading or

unloa ding o f the pig is ensured. So the process

of pig exchange is made easier and operational

errors are avoided.

The pipeline side can be equipped with a

flange. For safety reasons I.S.T. recommen ds theuse of this station.

Three way valve T 41 (cylinder)

This three way valve a llows either two o r th reepipeline routes to be con nected. The inter nal

cylinder rota tes and locks the d esired con nec-

tion . Due to its sha pe the valve is almost pocket-

free and is therefore successfully used in the

chemical and in the paint industry. The T 41

can be o perated man ually (ha nd lever), or au-

toma tically. In combinat ion with a pig stop in-

sert and a pig sensor the T 41 can also be used

for launching and receiving of a pig. Thus the

pig can be reversed into another pipeline or

driven ba ck into its hom e station .


Three way valve T 42

The three way valve T 42 has the same switchin g

functions as the T 41. The large bend radius

thro ugh th e ball provides an o ptimum sealing

with a small torq ue for switching . The T 42 can

be operated with a lever or by a pneumatic

actuato r for two or three positions. In combina -

tion with a pig stop insert and a pig sensor the

T 42 can also be used for launching and receiv-

ing o f a p ig. Thus, the pig can b e reversed in toano ther pipeline or d riven ba ck into its home

station.

Rotary manifold T 06

M A N I F O L D S

The I .S.T. rotar y manifo ld T 06 con nects on e ortwo supplies with up to 18 outlets. Thus, for ex-

ample tank groups, mixers etc, can be inter-

con nected to 1 or 2 filling d evices. The fully pig-

gable version of the T 06 allows a pigging pro-

cess from the tank up to the filling device. The

manifold is also available with dry break coupl-

ings. These couplings shut both sides of th e line

after discon nection o f the couplings.

Two / two way valve T 08

M A N I F O L D S

This valve facilitates the diversion of productflows in two direction s simultaneo usly. Thus, dif-

ferent pipelines can be switched and pigged.

This fitting can a lso be used as a piggable pump

bypass. In this case the prod uct flow is conn ec-

ted with the pump. After conveying the pig-

gab le pump bypass is switched on. I ts integrated

cylinder is pocket free due to the optimum seal-

ing design. Therefo re it ca n especially be used

for products that allow no or only minimum

contamination. The valve can be switched

either manually (with hand lever) or automati-cally (with actuator). There is no overlapping

of ports while switching since all outlets are

blocked. In co mbination with a pig stop insert

and a pig sensor the T 08 can also be used for

launching and receiving of a pig. Thus, the pig

can be reversed into ano ther pipeline.


1 to 4 manifold T 51

This manifold is suitable for smaller distribu-

tions. 4 supplies which are a rranged rad ially can

be conn ected to a central out let. Thus an easy

an d cost effective distribution is facilitated . This

man ifold is based on the sealing principle of the

T 41 (cylindrical form). Due to the fully pig-

gable and pocket free design the possibility ofcontamination is virtually eliminated. A pneu-

matic four position a ctuator rota tes the valve to

any of the desired connection s.

Modular multi direction manifold T 54

M A N I F O L D S

This piggable pipeline manifo ld con nects 12 in-lets to max. 4 outlets. 4 products can be con-

veyed simultaneously and completely through

the manifold. All coupled connections are

eq uipped with safet y devices. The distribution

is done with 4 movable joint arms that are

connected to 12 fixed pipeline connections.

The jointed arm is picked up by a slide and is

then driven to the d esired position. I ntegrity of

coupling an d un coupling is ensured by the use

of pneumatic cylinders. All connections are

coup-led in pa rallel and are eq uipped withsafety devices. The manifold is of modular con-

struction and thus facilitates various option s of

installation. For safety reasons unused pipeline

inlets are locked with a b lind coupling. Thus, an

unwan ted pro duct or pig escape is avoided. The

manifold is designed for automatic operation

and the con trol system is an integral part of our

supply. With a special coding system the posi-

tion of the jointed arms is continually moni-

tored by the contr ol system. The o peration of

the ma nifold is done via keyboa rd an d mo nitor.

This programme can control the manifold as

well as the fully automated pigging system. A

structured menu facilitates an easy operation. It

is also possible to integrate a local han d con trol

for start up and maintenance purposes.

I.S.T. Full system manifold T 57

This is the first man ifold which a llows pipelinesof d ifferent no minal diameters to be combined

in a single design (DN 50, 80 and 100). The

system is closed and piggable on one side. The

full system section con sists of non-piggable rect-

angular ducts for product feed. At right angles

to these ducts are the piggable pipelines which

are conn ected at th e intersection by means of a

ring valve prin ciple. This ring valve o pens th e

connection from the product feed duct to the

piggable pa rt o f th e ma nifold. The valve also

acts as a pig receiving station. The respectivering valves are open ed by a man ual or pn euma-

tic actuating unit. The actuating unit moves in

a direction parallel to the piggable pipeline,

and is stopped at th e ring valve to be o pened.

This mean s tha t on ly one actuating unit per pig-

gable pipeline is required. Cost effective soft-

ware and interlocking d evices are th us reduced

to a minimu m. The small shut -of f unit m akes

the manifold very compact. All dynamic seals

are exch angeable within minutes. The T 57 ma-

kes it possible to con nect an d distribute up to

50 feed pipelines to as many as 20 pigging p ipe-

lines in a single module. All filling and pigging

processes are ef fected in p ara llel. The manifold

can open and close the conn ections independ-

ently of each other. Transfer pumping from

tank to tan k or from pigging line into pigging

line is also possible with the corresponding

switch p rocesses. This uniq ue m an ifold design

provides a very compact and low cost solution

with minimal maintenance.

I.S.T. Duo-pig

P I G S

The I.S.T. Duo-pig is used un iversally due to its

form and the wide variety of elastomers. It can

be made from AU, FKM, EPDM, NBR etc. It is

robust and simple to han dle. With the d esign of

certain pig launch/receive stations, the pig itself

can be rinsed in place. Pig removal is not re-

q uired for th is cleaning function. The pig can

be detected in the stations or in the pipeline

due to its integrated magnet. For manual

systems the Duo-pig can also be supplied

without a magnet. In this case it would be de-

tected with man ual pig locators.


On req uest also up to D N 300 (12" )

I.S.T. Duo lip pig

Due to its flexible sealing lips the I.S.T. Duo lip

pig ensures optimum sealing. Even with infer ior

quality pipelines it provides excellent operatio-

nal characteristics. It is also available with or

without magnet. The body of this pig is manu-

factured from polyurethan e (AU) - foamed or

solid an d t he seal lips are n on -abr asive solid

polyurethane.


Pigs

I.S.T. has more th an 25 years experien ce in thedesign and development of pigs for pipeline

cleaning. I.S.T. pigs are ma nufactured in various

designs and materials to suit individual custo-

mer requirements. In principle, if a product can

be pumped then it can also be pigged: Lube

oils, aggressive chemicals, toiletries, cosmetics,

pastes and foodstuffs. In special cases even gra-

nulates, powders etc., can also be pigged. Out-

I.S.T. Duo lip pig with replaceable lips

P I G S

The I.S.T. D uo lip pig with replacea ble lips is aspecial type of Duo lip pig that has been de-

signed especially for h andling aggressive med ia.

The a dvantage of this pig is tha t th e seal lips can

be replaced separately. The body of this pig is

manufactured from a chemical resistant ther-

moplast such as PA 6 or PVDF. The replacea ble

sealing lips are typically manufactured from

no n-abr asive po lyureth an e or FKM (Viton ). I n

most cases the Duo lip pig with replaceable lips

is supplied with integrated magn et.


I.S.T. jet pig

The I .S.T. jet pig is used for pigging g ran ulates

and powders. Used regularly it prevents the fo r-

mation of residual material. The body of this

pig is manufactured from polyurethane (AU) -

foam ed or solid an d th e seal lips are non -abra -

sive solid polyurethane. The jet pig is available

with o r without integrated m agnet.

I.S.T. Sliding coupling T 27

With th e pigga ble I.S.T. sliding coupling the

coupling of hoses or pipeline connections is

made easier. Two coupling h alves slide on each

oth er until they are locked. Bo th coupling parts

are sealed b y an O-ring tha t lies in a special

gro ove. The pr otected locking d evice ensures a

safe closure of the coupled halves.

The coupling system can be built with an inte-gral cod ing system. Thus each coupled con nec-

tion can be m onitored by a control unit so th at

operational errors are avoided.


Pressure relief vessel T 20

The pressure relief vessel is used for the safeventing and filtering of pig propellant (com-

pressed air, nitrogen etc.) and collection of re-

sidual contaminate. The T 20 is equipped with

a dem ister that separates contamin ates and pig

propellant. The volume of th e residual co nta-

minate is mon itored by a level contro l switch a l-

lowing it to be d isposed of a s req uired.

The pressure relief vessel is available with a vo-

lume of 60 and 100 litres with o ptiona l heating-

jacket.

In o rder to loca te the pigs in the pipeline or inthe pigging stations I.S.T. ha s developed various

special pig sensors. In automated systems the

pig is equipped with an integrated magn et. The

field of this magnet is sensed by a special ma-

gnetic field switch. For welded stainless steel sta-

tions these sensors are fixed to an externally

mounted rod with a special clamp. This allows

the sensor to detect the pig through the pipe

wall. In cast fittings other sensors are screwed in-

to a h ousing. I.S.T. also of fers electromecha nic

devices for location of pigs without magn et.

For high tempera ture a reas special sensors are

also available.

All pig sensors are available for EX and NON-

EX area s.

Pigging stations can also be equipped with ma-

nual pig locators. With th is type of device a tap-

pet is man ually pressed into th e station to check

for th e presence of the pig. A spring en sures the

locator returns and does not protrude into th e

pipe when it is released.

I.S.T. also offers a mob ile pen shaped magn etic

field detector which allows the pig to be detec-

ted throughout the pipeline. This method is

on ly applicable for stainless steel pipelines.

Pig stop and pig retainer T 32


The pig stop catch es the pig in th e T-station s.This allows the pig to be used a s a closure device.

The pig retainer is designed to hold the pig in

the laun ching o r receiving station. It pr events

the pig from b eing pulled out of its home posi-

tion an d into the pipeline.

The operation of the pig stop and the pig re-

tainer can be d on e manua lly (with han d lever

up to D N 100 / 4") or au toma tically (with actu-

ator).

Swivel joint T 33

The piggable swivel joint T 33 is a componentthat allows axial rotations into a piping system

and thus facilitates a greater flexibility. Swivel

joints can make the han dling of piggab le hoses

easier.


Welding ring T 34

Pigga ble pipelines have to be installed without

any misalignmen t. To ensure correct alignment

of a p ipeline, I.S.T. recommend th e use of weld-

ing rings. These rings provide an externally

welded sleeve joint which elemina tes the need

for a full penetrat ion weld and keeps the inter-

nal surface of th e pipeline weld free.

Inline Blender T45


This dynamic multicomponent blender hasbeen d esigned for th e continuous mixing of 2-9

compon ents. In th e stan dard version it is pos-

sible to achieve a flow rate of 60 m 3/h with a

blending chamber volume of 60 l. Its special

construction allows the direct mounting of

standard do sing valves to en sure a simultaneous

supply of all compo nent s. The locking cones of

the d osing valves open into the interior o f the

blendin g cham ber, and when closed are a flush

fit with the inside surface of the blend er. Con -

trol of the volume of the various mixing pro-ducts is usually don e th rough flow meters with

pulse transmitters in connection with pneuma-

tically operated control valves. . The blending

proportions are don e through th e control unit.

The com bination of I.S.T. Inline B lender a nd

automatic control guarantees an accurate and

consistent mixing result. Despite the varied

flowpath of the components in the blending

chamber th e qua lity of the final blend is unaf-

fected. Even pro ducts with ver y high an d ver y

low viscosity can be m ixed togeth er into a h o-

mogen eous product. Although the mixing time

in the blender is relatively short, the mixed pro-

duct is to exact specification fro m beginn ing to

end of the operation. The liquid/liquid blen-

ding operation of th e I.S.T. Inline B lender is an

answer to the req uirement of a continuo us pro-

cess operation which is easier controlled and

automated than conventional batch blending

operation.

The excellent b lendin g results sho w the ef fect

of th is uniq ue techno logy.

Control system T 48


Automated pigging systems need a controlsystem fo r the control o f the various steps of the

pigging operation. This is effected by an "SPS"

(stored programme system), which is often

known to as a PLC controlled system. The status

of all station s and the position of the pigs can be

controlled th roughout th e whole plant opera-

tiona l process/procedure. The single elements

of the pigging system can b e conn ected to th e

contro l unit either con ventiona lly or via a bus

system. When programming the control system

the knowledge o f the pro gramm ers is most im-portant in order to ensures a smooth pigging

process. I.S.T. has more th an 25 years experien-

ce in the development of automated process

control.

Piggable pipes and elbows

I.S.T. applies strict stan da rds with rega rd to the

production of piggable pipes and elbows since

the q uality of th ese parts has a high influence

on the pigging result. Pipe tolerances, ovality,

surfa ce qua lity, material th ickness and the q ua-

lity of th e welded seams are the m ost importan t

param eters. Piggab le elbows are produced by a

special method so that the roundness discre-

pancies are kept within small tolerances. For thedifferent applications I.S.T. o ffers a wide ran ge

of pipes and elbows. All parts are available for

the a pplication in th e chemical industry accord-

ing to D IN 2430.

Air pressure booster T 97

For a ll pneumatically actuated piggable fittings

a certain compressed air supply is necessary. If

this pressure is not available the air pressure

booster can be used. This pump works with a

pressure multiplication of 1 : 2 and is supplied

completely with a pressure tank.

Test pigging

Test pigging allows new and existing lines to be

at your premises. Regular m aintena nce by I.S.T.

personn el will ensure a continuo us operation

and avoids downtimes. Should there, however,

be a ny " emergen cy" the flexible I.S.T. team will

always be at your disposal to solve an y problems

at site.
