ISWM 2016 CONFERENCE AND EXPO
WELCOME1916 - 2016 • A CENTURY OF EQUITY
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the conference committee, it is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the ISWM 2016 “A Century of Equity” Conference and Expo on February 9-12, 2016 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando, Florida. This year’s Conference and Expo promises to be our most exciting and rewarding one yet.
The ISWM 2016 “A Century of Equity” Conference and Expo program will offer an exciting combination of technology as well as business management sessions focusing on key topics that shape our industry.
The exhibition runs in parallel with the conference and will offer you the chance to get up-to-date information from companies active in your area of interests.
We are so very grateful to our sponsors and exhibitors for their interest and support in helping us all celebrate our 100th year anniversary.
In addition to the excellent program and exhibitions, the conference provides an excellent environment to meet your peers in the weighing industry, build relationships, and exchange lessons learned.
“No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks.” –James Allen
This event is a reality due to the persistent effort and unwavering dedication of so many. So let me begin by personally thanking you for your past support and participation and for bringing your expertise to our gathering.
I wish to express my sincere thanks to as I call her, Conference Co-Chair Karen Hutchison for her hard work and tireless effort in helping me plan this event.
A special thank you to our Program Chair Vicki Allman as well, who helped put together a great program.
Naturally, I must also thank each of our speakers. All of these speakers are leaders in their fields, and have graciously agreed to share their wisdom and experience with us, and for this, the ISWM is grateful.
Finally, without all of you, the ISWM 2016 “A Century of Equity” Conference & Expo simply would not have been possible.
Please enjoy the conference in the beautiful city of Orlando, and my old stomping ground of 20 years. I will be all over the conference throughout the week and would like to personally meet and warmly welcome each and every one of you.
Sincerely,
Jerry FinneganConference Chair and ISWM Vice President

Scaling UpJames Sexton Vistage Chair
It has been my experience as an owner of a scale distributor and working as an employee for a couple of the titans in the business that sometimes as business
people we get stuck. We don’t know what we’re missing (if anything) and we don’t know what we don’t know. Businesses don’t suffer from a lack of good ideas, goals or vision. Instead, they tend to suffer from the absence of tools necessary to focus their businesses, to execute the tasks necessary to achieve their goals and their vision. In this “power hour”, I’ll expose you to a few tools that might help you overcome the natural barriers to profitable company growth.

Multi-generational Salesmanship – Selling Technology to a Target Audience Spanning 50 YearsPaul Batson President, TSW Automation
Selling weighing and measurement technology in today’s marketplace requires
more than product knowledge. We have to navigate a mix of influencers and decision makers and stakeholders at multiple levels of authority and experience. What resonates with some will turn off others. To communicate the value we bring to the table, we must speak the language of the listeners. And that takes careful attention to the generation span of the target audience.
Paul is President of TSW Automation, Inc. a technology provider for the weighing and measurement industry for 25 years. An Electrical Engineer and Eclectic-al Entrepreneur, Paul has over 30 years of experience automating scales.

During this session we will explore the challenges of successfully navigating a complex sale in today’s economic environment. We’ll talk about the importance of developing a “Coach” at your key accounts, avoiding the “one legged stool” and understanding “position”…… yours and your competitors’. If you think that persistence is the single most important quality of a successful sales professional, this session will change your mind. We’ll review the 5 most common roadblocks to a successful sale, and gain a better understanding of what customers really, really want.

At the end of the day, customers have problems and they want solutions to make those problems go away. So, are you really delivering Win-Results for your customers? Your mission is to develop a strategy for each and every sale that takes your customer from “Whoa, I’m not ready yet….. to Wow, you can do that?

Euramet cg-18, the Definitive Standard for the Calibration of Analytical BalancesMark ReufenachtQuality Assurance ManagerHeusser Neweigh
This workshop will cover the new documentary standard Euramet cg-18, “Guidelines on the Calibration of Non-automatic Weighing Instruments.” Euramet cg-18 has recently been revised and updated. This documentary standard is used around the world by calibration service providers, accreditation bodies, national metrology institutes, regulatory agencies, and balance users. It is recognized as “the standard” for the calibration and use of analytical weighing instruments (balances and laboratory/bench-top scales).
The workshop will provide an overview of the contents in cg-18, including the mandatory measurements that must be made for the calibration of a balance (e.g., linearity, span, sensitivity, eccentricity, etc.), uncertainty calculations associated with a balance calibration, and the user’s uncertainty (global uncertainty) for the use of the balance in every-day weighing applications. including sources of weighing errors in analytical environments, methodologies for quantifying the errors, and computation of balance calibration uncertainty and global (user) uncertainty. This workshop is designed for beginner to advanced calibration technicians, ISO/IEC 17025 assessors and accreditation bodies, or managers wanting a better understanding of balances calibration and mandatory measurements.
Mark specializes in the calibration and measurements with weighing instruments (balances & scales), weights, and related mass sub-fields (pipettes, volumetric, force, etc.). Mark is an instructor at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, Gaithersburg, MD) teaching fundamentals of metrology, uncertainty, mass calibration, balance calibration, and revising related NIST handbooks and standards. Mark is the Technical Chair of ASTM E617 (Precision & Laboratory Weights) and ASTM E898 (Balances & Scales). He is an ISO/IEC 17025 Assessor and the Quality Manager at Heusser Neweigh, a primary mass calibration metrology laboratory. Mark resides in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is best known for his innovative training of assistance dogs.

Optimizing Channel Compensation – Best Practices in Creating Value for Channel PartnersChuck BankerSpecialist Group Global General ManagerAvery Weigh-Tronix
Distributors and their manufacturer partners are being asked to bring new value to the supply chain. Customers require new services and innovative products to move to the next level of competitiveness. For manufacturers, product life cycles are increasingly shorter. To remain efficient and generate positive return on capital invested, manufacturers must create new offerings with a shorter return on investment cycle allowing benefits of economies of scale before the products fade and move to commodity status.
Optimizing Channel Compensation will focus on the link distributors and manufacturers play in adapting and coordinating efforts to outperform competitors and remain viable and profitable.
Chuck Banker is the current Specialist Group Global General Manager for Avery Weigh-Tronix. In this role he manages five stand alone businesses with global reach across 75 countries. His career over 20 years has been spent with Industrial Manufacturing companies whose main avenue to market is through distribution. He has consulted, coached and presented to Fortune 500 companies, including Abbott Labs, Baxter, Walgreens, Exelon, General Motors, U.S. Steel, Air Products and Sigma Aldridge Chemical and has helped develop curriculum, presented, and consulted with major universities such as the University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of Illinois, Milwaukee School of Engineering, University of Iowa and the University of Michigan.
