The Green Industry Show and Conference is back in Edmonton for 2016! Ouramazing team of staff and volunteers have put together a conferenceprogramme aimed to inform and inspire everyone from designers to arborists,owners to students, growers to contractors. Our conference sessions are �melyand responsive to industry issues - with an updated format for 2016 thatfocuses on variety with 32 one-hour sessions over the two days.
New this year are two full-day pre-conference workshops designed to fill theneed of more in-depth technical level professional development. This year wehave two workshops: one for Greenhouse growers, and the other for LandscapeDesigners and Architects.

Good soil condi�ons forroads are the exact opposite ideal fortrees. The Greening the Highwaysproject is looking at ways to rehabilitateheavily compacted soils found aroundour roadways. With the three test sitesacross Alberta, this session will focuson the findings to date, as well as aneye to the next steps.

research, teaching and extension for over 25years, including nine years as a researchscien�st at the Alberta Research Council. Hisresearch is focused on biological control ofinsect pests and integrated pest management.

Dr. Hammeralso has published numerous extension andresearch ar�cles on greenhouse produc�onand management, and has par�cipatedas a speaker in numerous mee�ngs andconferences around North America.
David Hein is a Principal Engineerand Vice-President of Trans-porta�on of Applied ResearchAssociates, Inc. in Toronto. Hehas been extensively involved in
the design, construc�on and maintenance ofpermeable pavement systems. Recently, hehas been working with the City of Calgary todevelop permeable pavement design andconstruc�on guidelines.
Peter Isaacson is the Na�onalIPM Coordinator for the CNLAand co-founder of DessIsaaHor�cultural Consultants Inc.He has also been involved in the
development and delivery of the landscapeappren�ceship plant health curriculum andbotany for hor�culture at the Burnaby SchoolDistrict and Kwantlen Polytechnic Universityand involved in coordina�ng and conduc�ngresearch trials for private industry andgovernment. Peter delivers IPM workshopsfor retailers, landscapers and nurseries andwrites technical IPM documents andfactsheets.
Bruce Kay is the owner ofOnGrowing Works Ltd. and has32 years of industry experience.Bruce is currently the PresidingOfficer for the Alberta Govern-
ment's Provincial Appren�ceship Commi�ee.He also is ac�vely involved with Olds CollegeSchool of Hor�culture as an Industry Advisor.Bruce contributes to provincial educa�onalsub commi�ees for Landscape Alberta andwas a key contributor to wri�ng the Red Sealstandard and Na�onal Occupa�onal Analysiswith the Canadian Agriculture ResearchCouncil in the Landscape Hor�culturist trade.
Gord Koch is in his 16th year asan instructor at the Olds CollegeSchool of Animal Sciences andHor�culture. Prior to joining OldsCollege, Gord spent 25 years
managing the design and installa�on oflarge-scale public and commercial landscapeprojects. Gord holds a master’s degree ineduca�on, in addi�on to designa�ons asa Landscape Architectural Technologist,Journeyman Landscape Gardener and GreenRoof Professional.
Mario Lanthier has been workingin the industry since 1980 and inthe field of Integrated PestManagement since 1990. He is abugologist (friend of bugs) who
loves compost and thinks that soil is morethan N-P-K. His company, Crophealth Advising& Research, is a proud member of LandscapeAlberta and offers services in hor�culture,agronomy and arboriculture for urbanse�ngs and agriculture produc�on through-out Western Canada.
Dr. Darby McGrath’s researchgroup integrates nurseryproduc�on research withecological restora�on principles
to address challenges of urban tree survival.Current work in the McGrath lab aims toincrease tree plan�ng in the built environ-ment across Canada by improving soilstructure and root architecture. Ul�mately,Darby’s research is concerned with providingthe nursery and landscape sector informa�onand rela�onships that will help them producesuitable selec�ons of quality nursery stock forurban plan�ngs.
Phil Paxton is the owner ofAlpha Be�er Landscaping Inc.,Homescapes Complete Residen-�al Landscaping and WheatlandTrees Ltd. in Calgary. He is a
strong industry advocate and has been anindustry volunteer for over 37 years, si�ngon many boards in Alberta and Canada. He iscurrently the treasurer of the CNLA and chairof the Landscape Canada Commi�ee, as wellas past chair of the Cer�fica�on commi�ee.
Jonathan Small, BSc, PAg, is aFarm Management Consultantbased in MNP’s Red Deer office.As part of MNPs Agriculturalteam, he provides management
consul�ng services to all types of familyfarms. Jonathan’s work focuses on primaryagriculture, the farming industry and relatedtopics. He spends about half his �me workingwith farm families and their transi�on plans.He also works extensively on farm economics,business planning, economic studies andli�ga�on support specializing in quan�fyingeconomic losses.
Anne Smith is a researchscien�st with Agriculture andAgri-Food Canada in Lethbridge,AB. Her research focuses onapplica�ons of remote sensing
for crop, soil and grassland management. Todate she has worked with both op�cal and
radar remote sensing data acquired fromsatellite, aircra� and ground-based pla�ormsand more recently unmanned aerial vehicles.
Lynn Switanowski-Barre� is theFounder and President ofCrea�ve Business Consul�ngGroup (CBCG). Using more than29 years retail experience as her
guide, Lynn leads the CBCG team to engagewith retailers, e-tailers and manufacturershelping them create and implement profitimproving sales, marke�ng and inventorymanagement strategies.
Kim Wickwire grew up at herMom and Dad's side in thefamily vegetable and flowergardens where she learned ata very young age that the
produc�on of good food is the founda�on forgood health. She gained an apprecia�on forthe hard work that is involved in growing thatgood food working alongside them. Kima�ended the Olds College Hor�cultureProgram, and now teaches hor�culturecourses at the college.
Paul Zammit is the Nancy EatonDirector of Hor�culture at theToronto Botanical Garden. Hishome garden has been featuredin Canadian Living, Gardening
Life and Canadian Gardening and hiscontainer designs have also been showcasedin gardening magazines, most recently in theMay issue of Canadian Gardening. Paul hasbeen awarded the Young Professionals awardby the Perennial Plant Associa�on.
