Attendance As per Departmental Regulations Concord High School will notify parents and caregivers by an SMS on their mobile phones if a student is absent or late to school without reason. This occurs each day from 10am. Parents are requested to reply to this message via SMS or alternatively send a note explaining the absence/lateness on the student’s return to school. It is a parents’ and caregivers’ responsibility to provide current mobile phone numbers to the school. The return SMS sent by parents is a legally acceptable replacement for a handwritten note and will be kept by the school as part of documentary evidence of parental communication related to attendance. Sickness at school A sick student will be given a note by their class teacher and directed to go to the Sick Bay. The student will be signed into the Sick Bay and allowed to rest for 20 minutes. If the student is not well enough return to class after 20 minutes, then the parent or caregiver is contacted and asked to take the student home. In some instances when a student is obviously very unwell, the parent/caregiver will contacted immediately. Medication If medication needs to be taken at school, Parents must make contact with the school and complete and a ‘Request to administer Medication’ Form before sending the medication to school. Students must leave the medication with the First Aid Officer in the Side Office. Schools are not permitted to supply medication of any kind to students. Early Leaving Students who need to leave school early to attend an appointment must present a note to the Side Office before school on the day required. Students are reminded that attendance at school is compulsory and that appointments should be made outside of school hours wherever possible. Early leavers’ permission notes are to be picked up from the Side Office before leaving the school. Students leaving the school early must be collected and signed out of school by a parent or carer. Please note that the school grounds are governed by the Enclosed Lands Act. Meaning access to the school grounds is at the Principal’s discretion. All visitors must present to the Front Office to sign into the school. It is NOT acceptable practice for any person who is not a staff member or student at the school to enter the school grounds without following the sign in process. This is to protect all members of our school community.

Who Do I Contact at Concord High School? Parents and Caregivers may not always be aware who the best person is to contact when they have a concern or need to share information about their child. It is best to ring the school’s number (9745 3777) and the office staff will take a message and send it to the specific person via an email message. Staff are asked to check their emails once a day, which is normally before school. So a message left one day may not be returned until the following day. It is often not possible to meet with parents, who have not booked an appointment. All staff have teaching responsibilities and this is their primary responsibility. Please ring first.

TELL THEM FROM ME 2019

A survey to gauge parent perceptions of Concord High.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to take part in the 2019 Tell Them From Me survey.

The Tell Them From Me Parent Survey is anonymous, voluntary, and easy-to-use. It is based on a comprehensive questionnaire covering parents’ perceptions of their child’s experiences at home and at school.

Insights into parent and staff communication, activities and practices at home, and parent voice on the school’s support of learning and behaviour all build an accurate and timely picture that Concord High can use for practical improvements.

Accessing the survey is simple. Just go to:

http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/concordhigh2019 So have your say and let us know your thoughts on Concord High!

On the 20th of August 2019, Ms Gould took a group of year 7 students from the Robotics

Club: Oliver Drozdz, Jennifer Chen, Annalize Magill, Ben Rotem, Rohan Porter, Marcus

Leiton, Sherry Lin, to the annual Robocup Junior Competition that took place in Sydney

Olympic Park. It is the first time that Concord High School has participated in this

competition. Students have worked hard every day during recess and lunch time for the

few weeks before the competition to get their robots and programming ready. It was a fun

day filled with lots of excitement, intensive learning and problem solving. Students were

happy that they have learnt so much and are already thinking about the possibility of going

to another competition later this year.

Year 12 2019 Important Information

Dear Year 12 Parent / Caregiver,

As we begin to approach the end of formal lessons for students in Year 12, I would like to take this opportunity to provide you with some important information regarding the schools expectations and upcoming events.

General Expectations

All students and families are reminded that Year 12 are expected to conduct themselves maturely and responsibly over their final weeks at Concord High. Being at the end of formal secondary schooling does not exempt students from the Department of Education’s Suspension and Expulsion procedures. Students who breach the school discipline code, particularly in the areas of damage to school property, disruption to school normal operations, and disrespectful behaviour towards other members of the school community may be asked to complete their HSC examinations at another venue.

Students are also reminded that behaviour over this period of time does not exempt them from the law. This is particularly relevant to the safe operation of motor vehicles, property damage, and violent or aggressive behaviour. Students who engage in illegal or unlawful conduct will be referred to the police by the school.

Formal Lessons

With the completion of the Trial HSC examinations, most students should have now received their results, together with feedback from class teachers. The next 4 weeks is a critical period where ongoing, regular attendance at school is extremely important. Some classes will still be completing content, others will be completing revision, practice exams, refining examination technique and receiving vital feedback from class teachers. Formal lessons will continue up to and including Wednesday 25th September.

Dress Up Week

In keeping with Concord High tradition, the final five school days will provide Year 12 students with an opportunity to attend school following a “dress up” theme each day. Normal lessons will continue during this time and attendance is expected from all students whether they take choose to dress up or not. The dress up days are Wednesday 18th September to Tuesday 24th September inclusive.

Student/Staff Soccer Match

On Friday 20th September, the school will host a staff/student soccer game on St Lukes Oval. Normal lessons will be suspended from lunch onwards to allow students and staff to participate and the remainder of the school to spectate.

Farewell Assembly

On Wednesday 25th September all students in Year 12 will return to full school uniform for the school Farewell Assembly. This assembly allows the student body to acknowledge the graduating students on their final day of school attendance.

Year 12 Important Information

Graduation Ceremony – Families On Thursday 26th September the school will host the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony. This is a major event on the school calendar and will provide the opportunity for staff and families to farewell the Class of 2019. The ceremony will commence at 6:00pm in the Concord High School Hall. All graduates are expected to be in full school uniform.

HSC Exams

The HSC written exams will commence on Thursday 17th October 2019 and conclude on Monday 11th November. All Year 12 students are responsible to ensure they know when their exams are scheduled and that exam rules are followed. More detailed information will be provided closer to the exams.

Sign Out Day

All students in Year 12 are required to complete the sign out process to officially leave school. Sign out day will be Tuesday 12th November from 8:30am – 10am in the Concord High School Hall. All students are to ensure that all school fees are paid and that all school resources are returned on or prior to this date.

Students who fail to complete the sign out process will not be eligible to attend any school supported events including Presentation Day and Year 12 Formal.

Year 12 Formal

The Formal will be held on Tuesday 12th November at Dockside, Darling Harbour from 6pm – 10.30pm. All families are responsible for ensuring that arrangements are in place for supervision of students from 10:30pm on the night.

Concord High Presentation Night

Presentation Night is one of the highlights of the school calendar to be held on Wednesday 12th December. This is our schools opportunity to recognise our high achievers across all areas of school life. Students in Year 12 receiving awards will be acknowledged on this night.

Attached to this letter is a single “Dates to Remember” handout that hopefully all families will find helpful during this busy time of the year.

I would like to take the opportunity to wish all Year 12 students and their families a great finish to Term 3. Remember that the resources of the school (teaching, counselling, wellbeing, health support) remain available to all students over the coming months. I would encourage any families who may be experiencing difficulties over what can a stressful period to contact the school and access our support.

Kind regards, Victor Newby Principal
