It was the first day back at school, and everyone was very happy to see each other. Summer is fun, but seeing your friends at school again is the best!

Era el primer día del colegio y todo el mundo estaba muy feliz de verse de nuevo. El verano es divertido, pero ver a tus amigos de nuevo en el colegio, ¡es lo mejor!

At lunchtime, Gabriel was showing Leonard the new karate kicks he learned over the summer.

“Haii ya!!!” shouted Gabriel. “Wow!” said Leonard.

A la hora de la comida, Gabriel estaba mostrando a Leonardo las nuevas patadas de karate que aprendió durante el verano.

“¡Haii ya!” gritó Gabriel. “Guau!” dijo Leonardo.

Violet, Christina, Yolanda, and Mary were walking around the schoolyard and telling each other about their fun summers.

As Gabriel did a super kick, Mary was happily telling the girls about her summer…POW! “Ahhh!!” shouted Mary.

She sailed across the schoolyard. ‘‘Oh nooo!’’ everyone cried. ‘‘Mary!’’

Mientras Gabriel hacía una súper patada, María estaba hablando felizmente con las chicas sobre su verano… ¡POW! “¡¡Ahhh!!” gritó María.

Fue lanzada por el patio. ‘‘¡Oh no!’’ todos gritaron. ‘‘¡María!’’

Gabriel ran over to her. ‘‘Mary! Mary! I’m so sorry! Are you okay?’’

Mary was crying. She was a bit scared, and her wing hurt a little.

Gabriel corrió hacia ella. ‘‘¡María! ¡María! ¡Lo siento mucho! ¿Estás bien?’’

María estaba llorando. Ella estaba un poco asustada por lo que le había pasado y su ala le dolía un poco.

Gabriel felt terrible. He didn’t mean to hurt his friend!

‘‘Mary, I was only practicing my kick and didn’t see you. I’m so sorry!’’ Mary didn’t say anything. She was still stunned.

Gabriel se sentía muy mal. ¡No quería hacerle daño a su amiga!

‘‘María, sólo estaba practicando mi patada y no te vi. ¡Lo siento!’’ María no dijo nada. Todavía estaba pasmada.

Gabriel walked over to a big tree and sat down in the shade. He felt terrible about hurting Mary. It was an accident! He didn’t know what to do.

Yolanda and Leonard went over to talk to him.

Gabriel caminó hacia un gran árbol y se sentó en la sombra. Se sintió muy mal de lastimar a María. ¡Fue un accidente! No sabía qué hacer.

Yolanda y Leonardo fueron allí para hablar con él.

‘‘Mary will be okay,’’ said Leonard.

‘‘I hope so. I feel terrible! What do I do?’’ asked Gabriel.

‘‘My karate teacher told me to look around when I practice my kicks, and you should too.’’ said Yolanda.

“María estará bien”, dijo Leonardo.

‘‘Espero que sí. ¡Me siento mal! ¿Qué hago?’’ preguntó Gabriel.

“Mi profe de karate me dijo que tengo que mirar a mi alrededor cuando practico mis patadas y tú deberías hacer lo mismo”, dijo Yolanda.

‘‘Go apologize to Mary again. Promise her that next time you are practicing your kicks, you will look around. That way there will be no more accidents,’’ said Leonard.

‘‘Okay. I will. That’s a good idea,’’ said Gabriel.

‘‘Vete a disculpar con María de nuevo. Prométele que la próxima vez que estés practicando tus patadas, mirarás a tu alrededor. Así no habrá más accidentes’’, dijo Leonardo.

“De acuerdo. Lo haré. Es una buena idea”, dijo Gabriel.

‘‘I’m very sorry, Mary. I didn’t mean to kick you. It’s my fault. I need to look around me as I practice my kicks. I don’t want to hurt anyone! I promise it won’t happen again.’’

‘‘Lo siento mucho, María. Yo no quería golpearte. Es mi culpa. Yo tengo que mirar a mi alrededor cuando practico mis patadas. ¡No quiero herir a nadie! Te prometo que no pasará de nuevo”.

Mary looked up at Gabriel. ‘‘Thank you for apologizing. I forgive you. Actually, your kicks looked really fun. Could you please teach me some of your moves?’’

‘‘Really? Okay!’’ said Gabriel.

María miró a Gabriel. “Gracias por tus disculpas. Te perdono. De hecho, tus patadas parecían muy divertidas. ¿Podrías enseñarme algunas, por favor?”

“¿De verdad? ¡Claro que sí!” dijo Gabriel.

Gabriel started to teach Mary some of his kicks, which she did perfectly – and in the air! Yolanda, Christina, Violet and Leonard went over to watch and practice too.

Gabriel le empezó a enseñar a María algunas de sus patadas, las cuales ella hizo perfectamente – ¡y en el aire! Yolanda, Cristina, Violeta y Leonardo fueron allí para mirar y practicar también.

‘‘This is so much fun!’’ said Mary.

‘‘But only when you look around you.’’ said Gabriel with a wink.

‘‘Yes, and with your friends! Haii ya!’’

They all practiced karate kicks until the bell rang. They were so happy to be back at school!

“¡Es muy divertido!” dijo María.

“Pero solo cuando miras a tu alrededor”, dijo Gabriel con un guiño.

“’Sí, ¡y con tus amigos! ¡Haii ya!”

Todos ellos practicaron patadas de karate hasta que sonó el timbre. ¡Estaban muy contentos de regresar al colegio!
