Because WSMS use BT MyDonate as our fundraising platform of choice, our charity

has secured a unique opportunity for a Corporate (or someone with deep pockets) to

experience ‘High’ Tea at the BT Tower in London, for 6 guests.

The BT Tower is no longer open to the general public. Lucky charities, who use

MyDonate as their donations platform, can bid for this great experience. It acts as a

charity fundraiser. If you would like to seriously impress some of your friends/family

or corporate clients and find out more about the donation level required, do get in

touch with Nick, in the office.

Our slot is: Friday 15th June 2018 between 12:00 – 14:30 (we have requested a fine

weather day with good visibility!)

The last time the tower was fully opened its door to the public Margaret Thatcher was

Prime Minister, the world was mourning the shooting of John Lennon, leg warmers

were de rigeur and a pint of beer was just 35p. Unfortunately security concerns put

the Kibosh on it.

Construction on the tower was completed on July 15, 1964, and the £9 million

building was originally named the Post Office Tower. The main structure is 177

metres (581 ft) high, with a further section of aerial rigging bringing the total height

to 191 metres (627 ft). When it was built it became the tallest building in London and

remained so until 1980, when it in turn was overtaken by the NatWest Tower. It is

even Grade 2 listed now.

Entry to the building is by two high-speed lifts which travel at 7 metres per second

(15.7 mph), reaching the top of the building in under 30 seconds. An Act of

Parliament was passed to vary fire regulations, allowing the building to be evacuated

by using the lifts – unlike other buildings of the time. There is an interesting article in

Wikipedia giving much more information on the tower and its uses:

Referrals

In an effort to boost Community referrals, we have produced the poster below. If you

know any relevant locations where these can be posted, do let the office know.

We have seen the number of agency referrals decrease over time and would like to

reverse that trend.

We have just signed up to a free email encryption service

called Protonmail.

This is their weblink: https://protonmail.com

From now on, in order to be fully compliant with the new

General Data Protection Regulation, which becomes law in

May 2018, any email sent to our mediators, which contains

any personal data on clients, will be encrypted.

The email will appears as originating from [email protected] Please can you

ensure that this is not recognised as spam/junk in your email accounts., if any head

you way.

ProtonMail is a free, open-source, encrypted email provider, based in Switzerland. It

works from any computer through their website and also via the Android and iOS

mobile apps.

The most important feature when talking about any encrypted email service is

whether or not other people can get a hold of your messages, and the answer is a

solid no when it comes to ProtonMail, since it features end-to-end encryption.

Nobody will be able to decrypt our encrypted ProtonMail messages without our

unique password — not the employees at ProtonMail, their ISP, our ISP, or even the

government (allegedly!).

In fact, ProtonMail is so secure that it can't recover emails if we were to forget our

password. The decryption happens when you log on, so they don't have access to a

means of decrypting emails without our password or a recovery account on file.

Another aspect of ProtonMail that's important to state is that the service doesn't keep

any of our IP address information. A no-log email service like ProtonMail means that

emails cannot be traced back to us.

We are in the process of contacting referral agencies to check what processes they

have in place to safely transmit personal information on potential clients to WSMS.
