Salam alaikum,Alhamdulilalh, IMRC has completed 30 years of service. It’s an amazing accom-plishment that we’ve been around for three decades, but whenever I revisit India I realize there’s still so much more to do. However, you’ve given IMRC your con-tinuous support. You’ve been there for hundreds and thousands of brothers and sisters in India who were in need of food, shelter and clothing, providing them with educational opportunities, improving the lives from healthcare to self-sufficiency, providing support as small as one meal to a child to a learning center for an entire

community. For all of this, Jazakh Allah khair! We began 30 years ago with just providing meals and educational assistance. Mashallah, over the years as we’ve grown, so have the needs, thus, our goals. I’m honored to say you’ve shared with me the opportunity to build legacy projects that will not only make a difference to India’s society today, but generations to come. It’s a great achievement that in a short span of the last few years we’ve built a university with 5 disciplines in Engineering & MBA program, a multi-specialty hospital focusing on diabetes, a state-of-the-art school integrating orphans with other children, and nearly 50 madrasa in remote areas of India with daily prayers and Quranic lessons. Individuals, families and communities will inshallah benefit from these programs for many years to come. Our mission statement is to help India’s Muslims & minorities achieve security, freedom and equal-ity – their rights as citizens of India. That is what we do. But, we do it with your help. Your gift of $100, $500, $1000 or more will help fund special programs that you and I care about for minorities and Muslims in India, for good, forever. (You can even specify – exactly- where you would like us to devote your gift!)Over the past 30 years with IMRC, I have made more than 40 trips to India. And, as the Executive Director of IMRC, I’ve seen, first hand, the difference we can make when like-minded supporters gather our resources for the greater good. For example, our target was to build the Indo-US hos-pital in 2 years. Subhanallah, with Allah’s blessings and your generosity, we were able to construct this project within 18 months.Your endowment gift will be invested with Shariah Compliant returns which will be used as Sadaqa Jariah,‘forever funds.’ Only the income generated from the endowment is used to fund certain proj-ects such as scholarships, building schools, supporting a university or hospital project. The Endowment Fund will allow IMRC to continue during difficult times, provide and plan resourc-es for new programs and sources, and ensure long term sustainability of its crucial projects to help thousands of needy Muslims and minorities in India – forever. From educational assistance to healthcare, we welcome your investment with IMRC. Your gift made today – no matter what the amount – will be dedicated to the needy minorities & Muslims in India. IMRC is a cost effective organization with a less than 10% overhead which is paid by our endowment fund. This way 100% of your donation is used to benefit the needy. Please be generous. “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” (Tirmidhi) May Allah, swt, bless you and your family, many folds. Please remember us in your duas, especially this Ramadan.

Jazakh Allah Khair

OTHER ACTIVITIESRaising Human Rights issues with US President Obama and (VA) Senator Mark Warner

Gujarat’s 10th Anniversary

On October 25th- 26th, 2011 IMRC Exec. Director Manzoor Ghori met with Presi-dent Obama and met with (VA) Sen. Mark Warner.

Manzoor Ghori was invited to meet with President Obama while he was visiting in San Francisco, CA in October 2011. A policy recommendation letter was also given on behalf of IMRC. You can read the letter given on our website - www.imrcusa.org.

Also in October 2011, Manzoor Ghori had the opportunity to have an extended meeting with Senator Mark Warner. Senator Warner is currently the co-chair of the Senate India Caucus.

There were a vast range of issues that were discussed and brought up during the meeting. 90% of the meeting and agen-da was spent on immigration, H1 visas, investments, taxation, technology projects (green energy and developing new technol-ogy), banking, cultural exchange, and money flow regulations. However, it was sad to see that no one brought to the table core issues affecting India. IMRC was the only voice to bring up the issue of poverty, human rights, and fair distribution amongst all classes in India.

A formal letter was also given to Senator Warner suggesting policy recommendations on these core issues.

“Overall, it was a great experience and I was proud to see how the Bay Area Indian community is engaged and interested in getting involved. By promoting dialogue on issues of interest to India and the Indian-American community, I believe we can together enhance economic development in India, and improve the overall standard of living for Indians and Indian-Americans.”

February 27, 2012 marked the 10th Anniversary of the Gujarat riots. 'Never Again' was the promise we told ourselves. On March 3rd, IMRC participated in a Rally & Vigil to mark the 10th Anniversary of the Gujarat Riots at Union Square by the Gandhi Statue in NYC. We demonstrated solidarity with the victims who lost their lives and many more thousands who suffered in riots by wearing a black badge printed ‘Never Again.’ We also participated in a Gujarat Genocide commemmoration which was held in Los Angeles by South Asians for Justice. We submitted photos as part of the photo exhibition from Saher Raza, who was only 16 at the time of the riots and took photos of the aftermath. After 10 years, we still continue to support victims of Gujarat and we encourage everyone to take part in their local community commemorating the victims of the riots and stay active. It reminds ourselves of what we said then, IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN and work towards it.

47th Annual ISNA Convention - July 2011IMRC participated at the Annual ISNA Convention this past July in Chicago, IL. We held our Annual Luncheon in honor of our donors and friends to say thanks for their continu-ous support. Guest speakers at the luncheon included Dr. John Rosenberg who shared his experience leading IMRC’s India Health Initiative for the past 3 years, Maulana Khalid Rasheed and ISNA Vice President Azhar Azeez. The parallel session ‘Living in Harmony by Providing Services to the Community’ was presented by Maulana Wahi-duddin Khan. This past year’s event was also special since we had a guest performance during the ISNA entertainment session with Br. Bilal Chisty, a singer of Sufi kalaam & ghazals. IMRC held its booth in the lobby at this convention for 3 days attracting people from all over the country, inviting them to learn about its programs that are held year-round.

Inshallah, we hope to see you at this year’s convention! Look out our for session on Gujarat’s 10 Anniversary and our Annual Luncheon during Aug. 31st - Sept. 3rd, 2012. We’ll see you in Washington, DC!

Summer Volunteer - Travel India ProgramThe summer volunteer program’s mission is to under-stand and improve the conditions of citizens in develop-ing countries and to instill a sense of social responsibility and activism among young adults in North America. In 1999, IMRC started this program to help students gain an understanding of the needs of the poor and needy people in India. Mashallah, the participation for this program has tripled since its inception. Every summer approximately 10 volunteers from the U.S. travel across multiple cities in India; and work with other non-profit organizations on topics such as children’s poverty and education, women’s empowerment, communal riots and much more.

It was an honor of the 5th of May 2012 to have Imam Khalid Al Ghamdi visit not only India but one of IMRC's Legacy Projects - JIT located in Barabanki, India just out-side of Lucknow. The students of Ja-hangirabad Institute of Technology, staff and faculty were honored to have Imam Khalid lead the maghrib prayers on campus and give a talk on Quran, Science and Education. The news spread through town and neighboring areas that respected Imam Khalid of Masjid Al-Haram was going to visit. People came from afar, many by foot even, just to get a glimpse of Imam Khalid and be inspired by his knowledge. Approximately 12,000 people attended. Alhamdulillah, it was an historic event not only for JIT but also for the entire district of Barabanki. There has never been a visit of Imam -e- Haram in this area before.

Imam Khalid addresses the community of Barabanki with his translator.

Ensuring access to quality education, in particular for the poor and rural population, is central to the eco-nomic and social development of any country. We believe educational programs should continue and that children should have an opportunity to learn and excel beyond elementary levels. We provide schol-arships and support for students from elementary to university level. In effort to continue this momen-tum, we built two centers: Jahangirabad Institute of Technology and Challenger International School.

JIT was created to develop an educational institute of higher learn-ing in Science, Technology, Management along with training in leadership skills so the graduates can benefit themselves as well as their families and give back to their local community. Your sup-port at JIT brings an everlasting affect on a student, his family and in many cases a community. We continue to expand our programs, faculty, and campus facilities to remain competitive and meet the needs of today’s students.

Approximately 90% of the JIT’s students rely on financial assis-tance including tuition, books, housing, and work study programs. $2000 per year provides tuition and housing costs for one student.

We have grown from an initial 40 students enrolled to 250 and inshallah will continue to grow each year. In order to meet the requirements of accreditation from AICTE and allow room for growth in coming years, we constructed a new 5 story 60,000 sq. ft. engineering building.

Our next goal for 2012 is to begin a College of Education in the Fall yo meet the demands of many girl students and more urgent is to build a girls hostel. Alhamdulillah, through your generosity we’re able to remain a competitive institution providing students with state-of-the-art facilities and qualified faculty. It’s impera-tive we provide a hostel for girls so they can attend university in a safe and secure environment. Sponsor a girl’s room for $3000 or partially sponsor a room with a friend! Our girls at JIT are currently in the staff quarters and eagerly await their own accom-modation.

Challenger International SchoolIMRC built Challenger International School to address the problem of homeless children in India and the lack of permanent shelter for orphans with quality education. In general or-phans are vulnerable to poverty, crime, low end jobs, and exploitation. The unique system at CIS has shown a positive and life changing affect on the children thus far.

This project began with one acre of land ac-quired in Moinabad, about 25 km from Hyder-abad. The project has been taken in two phases: a hostel block and a school block. Alhamdulil-lah, through your donations, the school is near-ly complete and we have been able to accom-modate up to 21 orphan girls at CIS with a total of 250 student enrolled, 150% increase from last year’s enrollment.

At CIS, we provide modern education and al-low orphan children and non-orphan children to integrate in the classroom and on campus. It’s common in India for orphans to attend school in a separate facility. In most cases, these schools are run down, they lack funds, have out-dated curriculum and are volunteer based. At Challenger, we provide opportunities normally these orphans wouldn’t have had. They deserve a safe home and the best education possible. CIS’s objective is to provide quality & purpose-ful education using innovative methods through the expertise & vast experience of highly talent-ed staff. Year-round children are involved with activities such as field trips to the zoo, picnics, science fairs, using the computer lab, school performances, quiz competitions and other ac-tivities. To ensure the wellness of every child, CIS also holds yearly medical checkups for all children.

HEALTHCARE

3rd India Health Initiative

We bring affordable healthcare to rural areas where many do not have access to see a physician nor afford treatment.

6,000 Patients treated in three weeks

For the past three years IMRC has organized a medical camp in India where doctors from the USA and UK volunteer their time to attend to health issues in rural areasof India. In January 2011 we held a 3 week medical camp in the rural areas of Lucknow, Hyderabad and Delhi.

An announcement was made in the local paper and by word of mouth that IMRC will be in the area for free medical examinations. It was amaz-ing to see people travel from afar, many by foot, just so they can be seen by a doctor. Alhamdulil-lah, we had a total of 12 medical professionals who joined from the USA to volunteer their time. In total, we were able to examine and treat ap-proximately 6,000 patients in just three weeks. Many patients were referred for ongoing care of chronic conditions and a few who needed acute surgical interventions.

When you send your donation towards health-care, know that your support is assisting with the cost of medication and treatment for the poor. Prescription glasses, cough medicine, screening tests, sugar tests, vaccines and other simple surgeries were the most common treat-ments provided during this trip.

We look forward in future programs and inshal-lah hope to expand with the number the partici-pants each year. Alhamdulillah, this program has grown from a mere 5 doctors to over one dozen. We highly encourage medical professionals to volunteer their time and expertise towards this rewarding program. Jazakh Allah khair for supporting our program!

Dr. John Rosenberg (CA) led the India Health Initiative for 3 years in a row.

Inshallah next trip is plannedfor January 2013!

Indo-US Hospital For 15 years, our sister organization in India, Sa-hayata Trust, operated a health clinic in Malakpet, Hyderabad where 70 patients were seen daily. For the past three years while the India Health Initia-tives were taking place, we noticed the clinic was limited on space, lacked advanced facilities, and the building was falling apart, it could no longer meet the needs of the community. Thus, we decid-ed to reconstruct a new 6 story, 18,000 sq. build-ing with updated technology and features to treat the most common illness in the Hyderabad area - diabetes and its related illnesses.

This project’s construction was set to complete in 24 months, but we were able to meet our goal in just 18 months! Alhamdulillah! On January 15, 2012 we inaugurated the newly built hospital with guest speaker Maulana Salman Nadwi along with the Mayor of Hyderabad, medical profession-als from the US and other dignitaries. This was a very exciting day for IMRC and the community of Malakpet, Hyderabad. The goal is to have this hospital offer education for prevention of diabe-tes and treat those who are afflicted, but cannot afford the high cost of treatment. Features and facilities include satellite clinics, low cost diag-nostics, 24hr diabetes assistance and an exclu-sive wing for women and children. Departments in this hospital include nephrology, diabetology, orthopedics, surgery, pediatrics, family practice, dermatology, diagnostics including radiology, gy-necology, dental, ophthalmology and dialysis unit.

The next step in this project is to furnish all floors of the hospital and purchase the equipment to have it fully operating by December 2012. The Opthalmology Dept will open in August 2012. Currently, only the dialysis and out-patient units are functioning and Pharmacy is open. Inshallah your donations will help serve the community and assist in saving lives. We need your tal-ent and financial support! This clinic is a start to educate the community.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR THE POOR

Project REED

A solution to the void where our brothers and sisters were left behind and neglected in rural areas of India.

Rural Education & Economic Development

Project REED has been in the making since 2009 when during a visit to India we were noti-fied of a spreading trend - Muslim communities were leaving Islam by entire villages. Immedi-ately we went onsite to visit the local people to assess the situation. It was not only true, but sad to see that as Muslims we neglected a population that needed us and we weren’t there to help them. 57 villages, approximately 3,700 people were surveyed to have left Islam. IMRC knew they had to do something. It wasn’t a choice to sit back and watch this continue. Thus, Project REED launched in 2009 focusing on assisting rural villages by providing these communities with education in an Islamic set-ting. This program builds a madrasa in a rural village and provides imams/teachers, libraries, daily activities and Quran distribution.

Alhamdulillah, the project has received a great response from our generous supporters. In the 3 years since its launch, 38 madrasa have been built and 10 more are near completion. Each location has a prayer hall, washrooms, a living quarter for an imam and a classroom. The madrasas holds daily prayers, Quran lessons and other daily activities to bring a sense of community to the local area. This project also has a training program for imams and teach-ers. This way qualified instructors are assigned to each madrasa so the entire community can benefit.

Imagine if you lived in an area where there weren’t any madrasa but plenty of temples and churches. Would you or your family be influ-enced? How would you spend your Ramadan?

Where could you children go to learn about the deen? Who could teach anyone if there wasn’t anyone to learn from? Inshallah, these are the questions IMRC has answered and are trying to resolve with Project REED. Sponsor a madrasa for $12,000 and bring a community together again.

One of the hundreds of families who left Islam.

Daily prayers now held at a madrasa built fromIMRC’s Project REED.

Shaikh Ala’ddin Elbakri visited a madrasa from Project REED and gave a talk for the local community.

At the end of 2009, India’s Krishna River had its worst flood of the century. Over 2 million people were left homeless and lost everything in the floods. After the initial temporary hous-ing, we had to have a long-term solution.

The next phase in relief efforts was to provide permanent housing. The Government of In-dia is assisting these flood victims gener-ously by providing the land for free and Rs. 60,000. IMRC and other NGOs are in partner-ship with India’s Government to provide the remaining Rs. 20,000 to build a home!

Land + Rs. 60,000 (Given for free by Indian Government) + Rs. 20,000 ($500 by IMRC)

A permanent home

We sent out an appeal to assist flood victims who need a home. Out of all the NGOs involved in this project, IMRC is the only Muslim one. With your generous support we received sponsorships and began building as soon as possible. Alhamdulillah, we were able to sponsor one entire village = 162 homes! It is imperative that we continue to support this project through IMRC, so our fellow brothers and sisters aren’t left behind without a proper place to live. We can continue to build another 500 homes with your support.

$500 is all that’s required from you. Inshallah we will take on one village at a time. Inshallah, your generous donation will enable a family to be on their feet again, and rebuild their com-munity.

Ramadan and Qurbani

Each year over 1 billion Mus-lims across the globe anticipate Ramadan. This month may be exciting for others, however, for the already poor it can be very strenuous and a true test of pa-tience. Imagine how your family gets ready and spends its days and nights of Ramadan? There’s

excitement, joy, and happiness amongst the com-munity. Families pray taraweeh in jamaat, ma-sajid plan Eid activities for the community, and people often invite each other over to break fast together. For the poor, they worry about when their next proper meal will be, what can they have suhoor with, and what to eat when breaking fast. They wonder if Eid will be celebrated with new clothes or their worn out ones.

During Ramadan, IMRC holds an annual Ramadan Feeding Program to ensure that our fellow broth-ers and sisters fasting in India can have meals with their family and community during sahoor and iftar. They now look forward to the end of the day and anticipate a new pair of clothes for Eid.

In Ramadan 2011, over $300,000 were distrib-uted towards food distribution. $803,000 were disbursed in total of zakat and fitra in Ramadan alone.

We rely on the support of our do-nors towards this program since it’s cru-cial in ensur-ing that our fellow Mus-

lim brothers and sisters in India are not forgot-ten during the time of Eid-ul Adha.

While many of us may enjoy having a meal with meat once or several times a week, the needy do not. They look forward to having IMRC visit during the time of Eid since they know we have come to distribute Qurbani meat. It’s imperative to not only perform Qurbani, but to disburse the meat as well. Alhamdulillah, last year we were able to perform 1,825 Qurbani and distribute its meat to thousands of deserving families, benefitting approximately 54,000 people.

Since Project REED is a project based in rural & remote areas of India, we especially distribute meat packages in these areas. For many villag-ers, it’s the first time they’ve received meat in a long time. It’s important to celebrate Eid, but also be kind and helpful to the less fortunate. Inshallah, may this Eid be just as festive for the less fortunate as it is for us.

Thank you for making our program a success each year. We can’t continue without your sup-port and assistance.

We also perform Qurbani year round for sadaqa and aqiqa requests. Send yours today, 2012 - $100 per Qurbani !
