ITR Program At-A-Glance

Expanding Durable Applications with Ingeo CompoundsModerated by Nypro, the global leader in injection molding, hear from IBM about their journey toward commercializing a server component from a partially sustainable based compound and from Arkema on their Plexiglas Rnew, an Ingeo/PMMA alloys offering 2X the impact strength of typical impact modified acrylic compounds. Also learn about new high flow FR compounds from Teknor Apex and from Takemoto listen on how to take Ingeo HP toward more demanding application spaces with over 90% bio content.

Broadening the Application Space For Ingeo FilmsBiobased film performance can be significantly broadened through the use of a new family of additives that can reduce stiffness, improve tear properties and yet maintain clarity. Polymeric additives from Wacker and Metabolix can deliver softer films while maintaining the clarity that customers have come to expect. See some of the properties of Ingeo based, EarthFirst film from Plastics Suppliers, who will put numbers behind what they see in terms of unparalleled clarity along with best in class shrink performance and printability and hear how at least one converter is capturing new market share with performance films in the fast growing shrink film market.

Venue Cost Savings with Ingeo Food ServicewareThe case for zero waste is driving programs which span from city and municipal levels, to professional sports and college environments, and this packed session is designed to capture comprehensively how the challenges and opportunities in zero waste are being addressed across that entire spectrum, as well as the latest enabling developments with performance food serviceware products.

Expanding the Focus in Rigid PackagingIn the dairy category, the use of Ingeo in packaging technologies such as “Form-Fill-Seal” continues to grow. Numerous consumer brands look to replace incumbent materials such as High Impact Polystyrene while meeting exacting cost and performance targets as well as benefiting from the environmental improvements. Hear from the complete supply chain on selecting the right bioplastic, creating the needed performance requirements, extruding the roll-stock and how brand owners are embracing this technology all the way to the end market.

New Frontiers in Fibers and NonwovensBoth Ingeo fibers & nonwovens producers are developing new applications, as well as rethinking how they’ve made longstanding products. A key part of this is fully understanding and leveraging the capabilities of the range of PLA polymer grades. Come hear what manufacturers are doing with the newly commercialized Ingeo high performance grades as well as learn how material properties are being optimized to allow enhanced capabilities in new applications. The session will be culminate with a presentation from NatureWorks’ most experienced material scientist sharing his thoughts on where these new capabilities may take the industry.

New Markets - 3D Printing and BeyondIngeo is fast becoming a material of choice for new and exciting technologies such as 3D printing while at the same time offering new alternatives in toner markets as well as building and construction products, where avoiding chemicals of concern has become an industry trend.

Hear how large multi-national corporations like Lego and Unilever are starting to integrate Ingeo into their products and packaging, achieving performance enhancement as they look to a sustainable future. Allan Rasmussen will present on Lego’s desire to explore more sustainable materials, and Ravinder Reddy will explain how Unilever’s supply chain drives innovation. Scott Jenkins of the 215 member Green Sports Alliance and the Seattle Mariners will explain the leaps that have been made professional sports venues sustainability.

“I think the excellent part about ITR, is it brings together the scientific community that is working on biopolymers. Biopolymers can really affect anything from climate change, to space and landfills, to the overall happiness of tomorrow. ITR is a great step in helping the global community reduce the reliance on petroleum based plastics, and bringing sustainability into our future, and meetings like this are a great step in achieving that type of goal.”

– Bob Basarrti, Arkema

“ITR is one of the top three conferences I have ever attended. The access the network provides, speakers, technical support from NatureWorks and the general level of organization were fabulous. I will definitely come again.”

– Ken Powell, Ph.D., P.E., BD Technologies

“There’s this wonderful spirit of collaboration that’s going on here.”

– Steve Peterson, Director Sourcing

Sustainability, General Mills “The reason it’s important for me to be here, and for all of us in the industry to be here, is that what we put into the package is only part of the story. The package itself is a huge part of our ecological footprint. Our water footprint, our toxins footprint. This isn’t so much about sharing the answers. There’s a little bit of humility involved in this process.”

– Gary HirshbergStonyfield Farm

“What surprised me about the conference is there is an excitement here that’s really caught me off guard. It’s really easy to get engaged in. People are incredibly excited about biopolymers. Many of the attendees here recognize they are at the starting point of this new generation of plastics.”

– Carla Castagnero, President, AgRecycle, Inc.

“The world of biopolymers is changing very rapidly. People from everywhere are interested in the subject, and are here to learn just like I am. As a brand owner, it’s hugely important for us to get involved early on and be aware of the developments and identify opportunities where we might be able to implement them in our products and deliver what our consumers are looking for.”

– Lindsay Beck, ConAgra Foods
