Current Licensure Cycle• Renew your 2018-2020 Licensure by March 2, 2020 at www.IN.gov/pla/
dental.htm.• The next Licensure Cycle is March 2, 2020 – March 1, 2022. • All continuing education courses must be approved by the Indiana State Board
of Dentistry (ISBD) in order to apply toward licensure credits. ADA, IDA and local component continuing education credits are approved by the ISBD.
• You receive one CE hour per state or national meeting you attend.• Lecture credits are issued one hour per every one hour of attendance.• Workshop credits are issued two hours per every one hour of participation.
Basic CE Requirements for Dentists (minimum 20 Credit hours)
• Indiana Ethics, Professional Responsibility and Jurisprudence (2 Credit hours).• Practice Management (5 Credit hours can be applied in this category).• Annual HIPAA training as a Federal requirement (no specific amount of hours).• New for 2018-2020: Opioid Prescribing & Abuse (2 Credit hours for all
dentists with a CSR license).• Minimum 10 Credit hours must be earned from live presentations.• Annual OSHA/Infection Control Training as a Federal requirement
(no specific number of Credit hours).

OSHA Compliance & Infection Prevention Practices Cost: $85 Each Member Dentist and Team, $225 Non-member Dentist Check-in: 8:30-9 a.m. 2 LIVE Credit hours Presenter: Kay Maddox, RN Course: 9-11 a.m.The goal of this lecture is to help create a safe working environment for dental professionals. The keynote topics presented are exposure control, infection prevention, post exposure management protocols, and record keeping.
Lecture Objectives:• Understand the risk of exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens and Hazardous
Chemicals in the workplace. • Gain insight on use, storage, appropriate care, and safe disposal of Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE).• Acquire knowledge of and correct use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).• Learn the importance of an Emergency Preparedness Action Plan.
Basic Life Support Recertification Cost: $85 Each Member Dentist and Team Check-in: 11:15-11:30 a.m. 2-7 LIVE Credit hours** Presenter: Kay Maddox, RN and Jay Williamson Course: 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.The goal of the American Safety and Health Institutes BLS for Healthcare Providers and Professional Rescuers is to provide high quality training in performing CPR both as a single rescuer and as part of a rescue team for adults, children and infants. This program conforms to American Heart Association’s guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiovascular care.
Workshop Objectives:• Recognize and assess the need for CPR.• Understand and demonstrate CPR and AED use.• Pass a skills check off and written exam.

Annual OSHA training is mandated by Federal Regulation . Basic Life Support training is required per licensure period for hygienists .
**Indiana law limits hygienists to 2 Credit hours for BLS training. Dentists are able to claim 2 Credit hours per 1 Credit hour of hands-on BLS participation.

The Indiana Dental Association is celebrating its second year of single day live seminars presented by the Center for Excellence in Continuing Education. The committee continues to advance clinical excellence by offering spring and fall live seminars that host primo speakers and topics. Our speakers address topics that make a difference to you, your colleagues, and your dental teams. For your convenience, both programs are offered in a central Indiana location.
Hosted at the Embassy Suites Conference Center in Plainfield, our 2020 programming includes Dr. Gordon Christensen’s Bottom Line on Friday, April 24, 2020 and Dr. Jane Soxman’s Becoming the Pediatric Alpha Pup and Clinical Techniques in Pediatrics on Friday, November 6, 2020. Course details on pages 8 and 9.

Kay Maddox, RN is a graduate of the Indi-ana University School of Nursing and has practiced in Indiana for 48 years. She serves as a trainer on three Ivy Tech State College campuses, Regional Faculty for the Ameri-can Heart Association and Training Center Faculty for St. Vincent and Indiana Univer-sity Ball Memorial Hospitals. Kay is also an instructor for the American Health & Safety Institute and the National Safety Council. She has lectured to the dental community throughout Indiana for nearly 30 years regarding OSHA compliance.
Jay Williamson is training center faculty at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He has been training CPR, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens and various other courses for 17 years to both healthcare professionals and lay rescuers.

Gordon J. Christensen, DDS, MSD, PhD is Founder and CEO of Practical Clinical Courses (PCC), Co-Founder and CEO for Clinicians Report Foundation (CR), and a practicing prosthodontist in Provo, Utah. Dr. Christensen has presented over 45,000 hours of continuing education throughout the world and has published many articles and books. Early in his career, Gordon helped initiate the University of Kentucky and University of Colorado Dental Schools and taught at the
University of Washington. Gordon is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, and is a member of several dental organizations.

Description: Treating a challenging child requires a new approach for behavior guidance. Aversive techniques are not acceptable. Permissive parenting along with parents who defend, deny or attempt to direct treatment, bring a new dimension to treatment capabilities.
Lecture Objectives: • Learn the circumstances that effect behavior.• Provide information to parents about limitations due to behavior.• Pros/cons of parental presence during treatment.
Clinical Techniques in PediatricsDescription: Various non-invasive treatment modalities for the primary dentition, vital pulp therapy and full coverage stainless steel and esthetic crowns for primary molars are presented, plus local anesthesia and extraction for primary dentition.
Lecture Objectives: • Perform vital pulp therapy in primary molars.• Insure optimal clinical skills for administering local anesthesia.• Improve extraction technique for primary teeth.
Jane Soxman, DDS, MS began her career in healthcare as an intensive and coronary care nurse. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, where she taught after graduation. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow in the American College of Dentists. She teaches as a seminar instructor for the General Practice Residencies at Allegheny General Hospital and the Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Soxman has authored
numerous articles and is the editor of the Handbook of Clinical Techniques in Pediatric Dentistry. She maintains a private practice in pediatric dentistry in Allison Park, Pennsylvania.
