City of Sorrento
WELCOME TO THE LAND OF CITRUS GROVES AND MERMAIDSWELCOME TO THE ITT CONFERENCE
The City of Sorrento is proud to host you during the ITT Conference.
As Mayor of Sorrento, I am delighted to have the opportunity to showcase this beautiful town on the Neapolitan Riviera. From its cliff-top location surrounded by lemon, orange and olive groves, it has long been a popular tourist destination, with the British travelling here ever since Sorrento became a stop on the Grand Tour in the 18th century.
That such a prestigious organisation as ITT has chosen Sorrento for its annual travel and tourism Conference makes us particularly proud. In addition to enjoying a rewarding Conference, I hope you find time to explore the region’s highlights: to the south is the best of the peninsula’s unspoilt countryside, to the east the Amalfi Coast, to the north lie Pompeii and other archaeological sites, and offshore lies the fabled island of Capri.
Allow me to once again convey my thanks to ITT for giving us the opportunity to show you what makes this part of the world so special.
Like all who visit, I am sure that you will come to love Sorrento. We hope that you may all find reasons to come back and visit us again soon. Giuseppe Cuomo Mayor of Sorrento
When I opened my first travel agency in 1968, Italy was the UK’s favourite holiday destination, with the Adriatic and Neapolitan Rivieras the most popular regions. As the years have gone by, Sorrento has continued to build on its fine reputation for many reasons, including its natural beauty and the warmth of both the weather and the welcome!
It was therefore with pleasure that I accepted the invitation of Giuseppe Cuomo, Mayor of Sorrento, to hold the 2017 ITT Conference here. It gives many of us a splendid opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with the magic of his wonderful city. I can honestly say that delegates are in for a real treat!
Sorrento has proven to be a popular choice, and I am delighted that the Conference is a complete sell-out – the delegate list reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of travel!
As always, there is no conference theme. The event is staged in a magazine format, with each session relevant in its own right. Speakers are neither advisors nor consultants; on the contrary, they are high achievers from whom we can all learn.
ITT is a not-for-profit organisation. So thank you to all our sponsors, particularly our airline partner British Airways, hotel partner Hilton, gala dinner sponsor MSC Cruises and finally the Italian Tourist Board and City of Sorrento. Thank you for your continued and magnificent support. Dr Steven Freudmann F.Inst.TT Chairman, ITT
EXCURSIONS
The view across the Bay of Naples from the Hilton Sorrento Palace might whet your
appetite to discover more of the Neapolitan Riviera. If so, delegates will get the
chance to discover Sorrento and surrounding areas of interest via a selection of
payable excursions, courtesy of ItalyXP.com, the Italian Tourism experts.
From breathtaking seas, scenery and sites of historical significance to art, culture
and cuisine, full and half-day experiences will be available to delegates during their
leisure time and to partners during the conference sessions. These include tours to
Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, a boat trip of the Amalfi Coast, a cruise to Capri or
Anacapri, a cooking lesson in Sorrento and more!
To find out more, visit the excursion page of the conference microsite. Alternatively,
delegates will be able to book their excursion of choice at the Italy XP desk in the
Conference Centre Foyer.

GREETINGS AND WELCOME TO ITALY
It is a pleasure and an honour for ENIT to support the ITT Conference because it is such an important event for the industry. Delegates represent all aspects of the tourist industry and the Conference promises a full and busy business programme featuring illustrious speakers of the highest quality from inside and outside the travel world and great networking opportunities.
But this is also an opportunity for us to promote the natural, cultural and artistic heritage of our country to such distinguished guests. I am sure that participants will take this opportunity to enjoy some excursions to the extraordinary “treasures” that this most remarkable Region boasts: from Sorrento itself to Pompeii, from Capri to Vesuvius and the Amalfi coast, it is a jewel of a region that has held a special place in the heart and the imagination of the British public since the times of the Grand Tour.
My wish is that all delegates have the most profitable, as well as enjoyable, ITT Conference and enjoy fruitful work and successful networking. Evelina Christillin President, ENIT

Hosted by the Italian National Tourist Board, and with entertainment provided courtesy of Tasker and Partners, the garden provides the perfect setting for al fresco wining, dining and networking. A mouth-watering menu will feature a selection of traditional Italian dishes, accompanied by local wines, soft drinks, Campari and – of course – Limoncello. It’s sure to be a great opportunity to eat, drink, be merry and catch up with fellow delegates.

INCREASING CUSTOMER VALUE
THROUGH INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS
11:35 -12:05
Phil Gardner, Head of Commercial Sales and Relations,
Thomas Cook
Phil Gardner takes a look at partnerships within the industry and what makes a successful business partnership, asking whether more emphasis should be placed on customer over commercials and getting the balance right.
Phil will draw on his experience since joining Thomas Cook and give an insight into how the company has changed its approach to partnerships, how they fit into the wider Group strategy and what the ideal partner looks like today and into the future.
Lord Michael Cashman CBE
Born and raised in the East End of London, Lord Michael Cashman CBE had a highly successful career as a writer, director and actor before being elected as a member of the Labour Party National Executive, serving as Vice Chair and Chair.

Steve Esom, Non-Executive Chairman,
The Advantage Travel Partnership
Steve Esom will look at ‘Curation’ – a concept which is coming over from the US where consumers want to have an immersive experience rather than just make a purchase. He will also look at emerging trends across consumer-focused industries, and how these are affecting the way that consumers are considering spending their time and money, and – more importantly – driving their expectations of our industry. How might this affect the way the travel industry creates product and what can we learn from other sectors?
Following the Gala Dinner, you are cordially invited to join Feefo for the second Late Night Bar of the Conference. It’s been a Magnificent Seven years since Feefo was first launched, so join the team for what’s set to be a fun birthday celebration like no other!

In recent years, increasing focus has been placed on companies to ensure they are inclusive and diverse. From banking to the legal profession, industries have been battling it out to be crowned “top LGBT employer”, achieving notable recognition.
But with no travel firm appearing in the 2017 Stonewall Equality Index, the sector continues to lag behind. Think your business doesn’t need to change? Think again. This panel of business leaders from inside a nd outside travel will tell you why.

Following the news that he would not seek re-election as Conservative Member of Parliament for Tatton, Cheshire, ahead of the General Election, George started his new role as the editor of the London Evening Standard in May 2017.

Sir David Michels, Chairman, Michels & Taylor
Knighted in 2006 for services to the hotel and catering industry, the former President of the British Hospitality Association and current Chairman of Michels & Taylor will present a prejudiced viewpoint of the eternal triangle between hoteliers, customers and agents. Who will win, can anyone win and is there enough money to fund everyone?
Sir David will explore what hoteliers could do to protect their patch, what they are likely to do and whether – at the end of the day – anything will change after 100 years of moaning and wringing of hands.
ITT Conference parties showcase the very best that the host destination has to offer, and this year’s Farewell Party will be no different. The penultimate event of the Conference will take place at the famous Villa Fiorentino, the elegant setting for many of Sorrento’s cultural events and exhibitions. The venue’s outdoor space is set to provide the perfect setting for wining, dining and delegate goodbyes.
Delegates are encouraged to take a short stroll to the Villa. NB: the walk is approximately 15 minutes. Transfers will be available from the Hilton Sorrento Palace for those who are unable to walk.
