HISTORY ANDVISIONIUCEE was formed by a group of academic andindustrial experts from India and the US and graduallyincluded experts from other countries as well. The visionof IUCEE is to improve the quality and global relevanceof engineering education in India. For the first two yearsin 2008 and 2009, US experts travelled to India todiscuss global best practices in teaching and researchin their field with Indian faculty at Faculty LeadershipInstitutes.
IUCEE realized that sustainability of the mission ofIUCEE requires an ecosystem for transformation withfocus on faculty development, student development, curriculum development, as well as improved teachingtechnologies & engineering education research. TheIUCEE Consortium is a network of institutions formingthe core of the ecosystem for the requiredtransformation. These institutions value such anecosystem by sharing, collaborating and contributing toit and making it financially sustainable.
Annual fees from these institutions enable IUCEE tomaintain a minimum staff for operations and to supportessential travel and infrastructure. Members of theconsortium receive special assistance in establishingcollaborations with international experts andinstitutions.

“Symposium on Engineering Mathematics with MATLAB” was held virtually on 6th to 8th Sept2021. This effort was a true collaboration between MathWorks, IUCEE and RV College ofEngineering. They acquired new tools and abilities for implementing the NEP 2020 Guidelines, which recommend more project based experiences for educating the future generations ofengineers. The Symposium has shown participants how MATLAB handles numerical expressionsand mathematical formulas in classroom, which make it an excellent tool for teaching andresearch.

IUCEEMINI-SYMPOSIUMON PBL
This is a follow up to RRSPBL 2021 which was held in June and concluded with a Call to Actionfor building a PBL Movement in India. The main objective of the Mini-Symposium is toidentify good practices, share the challenges and lessons learned, and prepare an actionablePBL roadmap unique to the Indian context. This is directly relevant to guidelines for “holisticand interdisciplinary education” as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The One-and-half-day Mini-Symposium will be held on 9th (Saturday) and 10th (Sunday) October2021.

Sharing and Collaborating is central to the mission and
value system for IUCEE. Monthly meetings for faculty
are facilitated by IUCEE advisors.
Journal of Engineering Education Transformations
(JEET) continues to play a major role in facilitating
faculty sharing. The July 2021 issue was published with

The challenge is to design aprocess for producing oxygenusing the process ofphotosynthesis and make itavailable to patients, particularlythose convalescing. Some researchhas shown that photosynthesiscan be optimized and could belooked at as a chemical plantsubject to the same chemicalprocesses as any other. Even if thedevice can produce limitedamounts it may be useful forproviding temporary relief inemergency cases

5PROJECTS
Starting August 2021, 5 Projects were
announced which were defined around
real world problem solving. The aim is for
students to undergo a PBL process while
coming up with realistic solutions and
ideas. A total of 250+ student teams
applied for these projects.

200+ teams submitted their preliminary understanding of the problem statements and
presented their Abstracts during the Student Summit. The teams are guided by their
Faculty guides and several experts from IUCEE to arrive at feasible solution/s. These
teams are given mentoring sessions and are expected to submit a Paper on 15th
November. Shortlisted Papers will be invited to present at the Annual Student Forum
and may find a place in JEET.

he Student members of 21 Student chapters of IUCEE meet on the 3rd Saturday of every monthalong with their Faculty Advisors at 7PM to learn and share best practices and collaborate forsmarter and more engaging experiences among them.
The Sept 18th Monthly meeting had an agenda to understand the success and failures of StudentSummit held on 3rd-5th Sept. While the individual session saw intense engagement from thestudents, the overall representation of students from various chapters was low. The sub teams inbreak out rooms provided some clear insight into the participation. Online sessions overdose andacademic pressures of other assignments and exams were major reasons followed by the durationand length of the Summit. The trend indicates that smaller events scattered throughout the year insmaller teams may be the new way forward.

ICTIEE is one of the signature programs of IUCEE connectingeducation experts and passionate educators all over the worldfor improving the potential for excellence in engineeringeducation. It has emerged as a global platform for sharing bestpractices and collaborating with academic and industrialexperts for both faculty and students. In line with the previousICTIEE conferences, ICTIEE 2022, hosted virtually, featurespaper and poster presentation sessions, workshops, speciallectures, panel discussions, conclaves and thus facilitatingglobal network for the cause of effective engineeringeducation.
ICTIEE 2022 is expected to have more than 1000 delegates andis welcoming passionate educators and students to be a part ofthis mega event.
The research articles submitted to ICTIEE are continuouslyincreasing every year in terms of quality and quantity. 160papers on engineering education have been received and areunder review. Selected papers from these will be the core ofthe program and presented in two parallel tracks.
A Steering Committee representing the Consortiuminstitutions and advised by global experts has started thedetailed planning of the workshops, keynote as well as panelsessions. The conference is expected to attract over 1000participants and is planned to be very interactive.
The Annual Student Forum will be held in parallel.
