Grass on the other side is always greener

    Article by Sujit Lalwani

Page no. 2 | September Edition

Life on the other side isalways green. Is it true?Friends, this is true, because a personwho is down, frustratedand does not lovehis life or what he does,is bound to feel thatsomeone else's life ismore greener thanhis/her own. The longinstilled philosophy in all

of us today, that if you do what your heart says you are more content andsatisfied than when you are doing what someone else is expecting you todo is causing all the trouble.

Truth is what you discover. Live your life and discover the truth of your life, your constraints, your situations, your problems, your answers, your happi-ness is too unique to you, live to make a great life out of your life's situa-tions. Don't model in comparison to Bill Gates' life, neighbor's life or for thatmatter your brother's, parents' or your spouse's life. See what can make allhappy. By not keeping others happy, you are digging your own grave.

If you can expect and tell yourself what you are expected to do is what youlove to do, the problem gets solved if the question is of being content. Butthe ego doesn't allow this to happen, for your ego continuously reminds youof the fact that "you are adjusting..., you are not originally happy. That isthe job of ego - can you believe it gets paid for it. It gets paid for it and itsreturns are the no. of issues it creates in your life.

The other facet of life is when you are expected to do things in a particularway and someone who is expecting you to do something is doing the samein an opposite way, it causes the greatest hurdle to accept what is happen-ing and stay happy - the first thing that hits the mind is the comparison that"why are you expected to do when he/she can do the opposite". Life hassort of instilled in us through various media - the joy of ownership, the joy ofhaving control. This has its strengths and hazards. The hard side to it is weforget to draw the line, where to seek control, what to seek control in andwhen to let go; with whom to seek and with whom to let go. The more oftenyou watch things you want to do, being glamorized and showing people re-ally seeking pleasure out of it, the more you would want to do it.

One finest example that I would love to quote, is the way media has glam-ourized romance, love, relationships, outings, travels, which has made peo-ple seek all of this only to realize these no way fall close to the expectedpleasure they might give that the media sets in us. It's an exaggerated viewthat is set in us and hence what follows is an exaggerate expectation. Life'spurpose is to attend the dreams of the collective set of most important peo-ple you love; and of course yourself eventually (but eventually is what weforget).

Likewise in relationships the ego plays havoc. People have forgot-ten roles. The role of a pilot is to fly the plane and hostess needsto assist the passengers. We tend to think pilot can fly the planethe way he wants and he has complete control and is more fortu-nate than any of us. But we fail to realise he feels equally moreresponsible for all the lives, he is accountable, he is also flying anexpected route, he is going through deeper and greater strain(mentally) so needs better relaxation and rest. A lot of us end upcomparing that what we are doing is equally BIG and great andhence we deserve to enjoy and celebrate as much as the pilotdoes and we should be paid equally as well.

Now the most important thing in relationships roles have to be tru-ly well understood and accepted and not compared. Comparisoncauses more damage than good it is capable of causing. It's best ifwe all did realize that its the happiness that makes us become thebest of whatever post we are f rom.

Once a great man said "All work is just WORK" with equal pleas-ure and pain. If there is possibility of work sharing it should bedone. If there is expertise it should be shared. For the sake ofsharing it if things are divided then it makes chaos happen. Itcould be from small things to bigger ones. Why is it that womangives birth to a child and not a man, why is it women look beautifuland not a man etc. Nature had a reason to make both the waythey are and a lot can be learnt. Let roles be unique and not com-pared. Let the common goal be the upliftment of family and not theupliftment of an individual alone.

If this was understood - divorces would decrease. ":Why should igo through all the pain?" "why me always..?" " Why should it al-ways be me who says sorry?" "why should I do all the work?" "why should I go through this, I don t deserve it.." "Why..." If youhave felt all this then welcome to the club of people who just needto hold their ego with both their hands strangle it each time itcomes when the person on the other side of grass is a loved oneand for heaven's sake STOP COMPARING. No matter how muchyour tendency is to.

Life on your side is as green as that on the other side. IT's just thatat times it's night on your side and day on the other side and attimes it's day on your side (when you busy seeing your grass andhave no time to see it's dark on the other side..) and night on theother side.

The grass has nothing to do with your life. You better start lovingyour life and living it with what it offers you first and then expandthe horizons beyond to ensure it compasses more and more inyour arena, than comparing and keeping your life in a circle ofsmall radius forever.

    Tricks Professionals Use

    for Richer Writing..

    Article by Jody Lebel

Page no. 3 | September Edition

This works well with secondary characters."Mary was stunned to learn that her quiet housewife neighbor was aphone sex operator at night. How could she let that woman babysit herkids now?"

    6) Deepen your story line two ways. Use a witty remark or choose asubject at the beginning of your story, then repeat it near the end.Search for sentences that sum up the mood of the piece or some ob-ject that will tie the piece together. A man buys a fishing tackle box at ayard sale. At the end of the chapter have him fishing for a way to askour heroine out. Or say she hooked him better than any lure in the box.Use of a symbol. Yellow is usually a cheerful color but make it alwaysbring trouble to your hero. Maybe a school bus hits his car, or he triesto impress a woman who is wearing a yellow dress and he fails miser-ably. When he sees yellow, he walks the other way. This symbol could

also be figurative. For example the heroine could live on the banks of ariver. As with a river she finds her life rushing by or flowing or raging.

    7) Create a distinct voice with two techniques. Regardless of theiruse of language, if your characters still sound alike give them vocaldifferences by use of pitch, timber, or volume. Another way to differen-tiate them is by use of unusual or exaggerated behavior."You make me sick," Tom said his voice low and menacing."And you're an angel?" Ray's shrill voice carried across the bar. Hesmiled as he cracked the knuckles in his right hand with a sickeningpop.

Throughout the story keep Tom's voice deep and mean. Tom doesn'tchit chat; he gets right to the point. Ray likes to be more physically ag-gressive, cracking his knuckles, making fists and generally beingmacho. You won't get these two men confused if you keep them incharacter.

    8) Craft your comparisons.Descriptions like tall, fat, old and funnyare too vague. And boring. She had pretty blue eyes. "She has Bette Davis eyes."

The young man was well built. "He reminded her of a Spanish matadorwith his dark hair hitting his collar, and his muscular chest showingthrough his open shirt."

She was fat. "The lady was unable to get out of her chair, her generousbottom catching the arms and holding her prisoner."

Now youre writing like the pros.

    1) Create anevocative scene

in two steps. Thefirst step is tocreate a visualpicture. Followthat with a secondsentence makinguse of one theother sense. Inother words showsomething then

evoke a smell, taste, sound or feeling."The trellis was alive with yellow flowers. The sweet scent of jas-

mine hung in the warm night air."

    2) Deepen a character with two distinctive traits, one physical andone psychological. Use these traits throughout your story to lockthat character in the mind of the reader. For example your heroinecould wear glasses and be afraid of highway driving. During thenovel have her push her glasses up her nose, or clean them, ordrop them. Have her take back roads or be late because she won'ttake the interstate.

Using something funny or odd endears your character to the read-er. Let's say our hero always seems to be invisible to waiters. Muchas he tries, he can never get their attention. They walk right by him.

    3) Create a moodin two steps. Mood is often tied in with emotions.Setting a mood isn't an easy task. Begin with a detail: "A car pulledinto the driveway." Next announce the mood change because ofthat action. "Even before looking, she knew it would be bad news."

"The mail dropped through the slot and hit the floor and suddenly

there was a morning rush feeling in the house."

    4) Create a memoryin two steps. Memories bring details to scenesthat otherwise wouldn't be there. Start with a physical object andthen associate it with a memory by the use of senses. For examplea pressed prom corsage could conjure up memories of her datecoming up the walk with the plastic flower box in his hand, his hairslicked back and dark with gel, and his tie a little crooked.

    5) Twist a plot in two moves. Throw trouble at your characters.Make it totally surprising."It was the anniversary of his wife's death, something he never gotover. That night as he was watching a live webcam of people inTimes Square, he saw his wife walk by."

Sir Mokshagundam Visveswaraiah, popularly known as Sir MV; (15 Sep-

tember 1861 14 April 1962) was a notable Indian engineer, scholar, statesman and the Diwan of Mysore during 1912 to 1918. He was a recip-

ient of the Indian Republic's highest honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1955.

He was knighted as a Commander of the British Indian Empire by King

George V for his myriad contributions to the public good. Every year, 15

September is celebrated as Engineer's Day in India in his memory. He is

held in high regard pre-eminent engineer of India. He was the chief de-

signer of the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad, as well as

the chief engineer responsible for the construction of the Krishna Raja

Sagara dam in Mysore. Upon graduating as an engineer, Visvesvaraya

took up a job with the Public Works Department (PWD) of

Mumbai and was later invited to join the Indian Irrigation Commission.

He implemented an extremely intricate system of irrigation in the Dec-can area. He also designed and patented a system of automatic weir

water floodgates that were first installed in 1903 at the Khadakvasla

Reservoir near Pune. These gates were employed to raise the flood

supply level of storage in the reservoir to the highest level likely to be

attained by a flood without causing any damage to the dam. Based on

the success of these gates, the same system was installed at the Tigra

Dam in Gwalior and the Krishnaraja Sagara (KRS) Dam in Mandya/ My-

sore, Karnataka. In 1906-07, Government of India sent him to

Eden,(Africa) to study water supply and drainage system and the pro-

ject prepared by him was implemented in Eden successfully.

The only sure thing about luck is that it will change. ~Wilson Mizner Via www.iuquotes.com

Several years later, Jerry did something you are never supposed to doin a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning andwas held up at gun point by three armed robbers. While trying to openthe safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combina-tion. The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found rela-tively quickly and rushed to the local trauma centre.

After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was re-leased from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.

When his colleague saw Jerry about six months after the accident heasked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins.Wanna see my scars?"

Declining to see the scars, the colleague did ask him what had gone

through his mind as the robbery took place. "The first thing that wentthrough my mind was that I should have locked the back door," Jerryreplied.

"Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: Icould choose to live or I could choose to die. I chose to live." Askedabout whether he had been scared or if he lost consciousness?' Jerrycontinued,

"...the paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to befine. "But when they wheeled me into ER and saw the expressions onthe faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, Iread 'he's a deadman'. I knew I needed to take action".

"Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Jer-ry. "She asked if I was allergic to anything. "yes" I replied. The doctorsand nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deepbreath and yelled, "bullets!" Over their laughter, I told them, " I am

choosing to live." "Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead."

Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of hisamazing attitude.

So friends, life is all about making choices and we all can choose howto live our life better and happier each day!

The choice is yours! So choose wisely!!!

Here is a wonderful story that Iwould like to share with youtoday!

Jerry is the kind of guy you loveto hate. He is always in a goodmood and always has some-thing positive to say. Whensomeone would ask him howhe was doing,he would reply, "If I were anybetter, I would be twins!"

He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who hadfollowed him around from restaurant to restaurant. The reason the

waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a naturalmotivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there tell-ing the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

    A work colleague asked him,

"I don't get it! You can't be a positive all the time. How do you do it"

Jerry replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, Jerry, youhave two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or youcan choose to be in bad mood. I chose to be in a good mood. Eachtime something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I canchoose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someonecomes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining orI can point out the positive side of life.

I choose the positive side of life."

"Yeah, right, it's not easy," the colleague protested.

"Yes it is ," Jerry said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut awayall the junk, every situation is a choice. you choose how you react tosituations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You chooseto be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choicehow you live life."

Soon there this discussion the colleague the industry to start their ownbusiness and lost touch.

He left her with a hope, a smile, a daughter and a

    Promise

Promise to never shed tears but to be happy

Everyone else put up issues in her way

That she cannot smile after a disaster that had hap-

    pened to her

She cant even celebrate events of merry

And she cannot even smile as she used to do before

Her daughter got the eyes just like him

And her smile also was like him

She never cared of what people will say to her

And she never went down in any matter

And she never cared for anyone but her husbands gift

    Her daughter

She celebrated the events with the same light in her

    eyes

She never cried afterwards and she never tried

The people around spread rumors about her

She was blamed for smiling a year after

    The death of her husband

But she continued to smile, and shine

To lead her angel the way that is bright

People said she doesnt love her man

Thats why she is smiling and living a happy life again

But the people around never knew the pact

The pact of love and the love they had

She had to live to make her daughter live

She had to smile to make her feel, what is beautiful life

and what her father had planned for her

She never fought with the people around

Because they didnt know the truth underground

But after two decades of happy life

When her daughter became someones wife

And the time when she was not fee ling well

She died of mental stress people gave

After her, her things were brought out

And people realized when her daughter shouts

That the lady was not happy to lose her love

And there was written at the end of the list

That she was just keeping a Promise.

I am currently aboutto take one of themost important stepsin my life. A brand newmilestone is here forme to step on and Imnot going to lie, I amNERVOUS mainlybecause this newmilestone is:COLLEGE!

Thats right people, I have graduated from high school :) and amabout to start an important part in helping my career as a writer grow. Its not as easy as I thought it would be though. I mean, I was used to

how my high school had everything set up for getting what classesyou want, and what time of day youd take them. It was very new forme to have to register for the classes and see which ones were evenopen for me to take! Ha ha. I knew there was going to be a problemwith the classes being filled up by the time I wanted to register due tomy Ambassador trip. So, in a way, it wasnt a big surprise when Ifound out that I couldnt get the English class that I wanted becauseall of the time slots were filled. The same was true for the math classthat I wanted (dont think that Im a math wiz, haha I am so not amath wiz).

I had to make a few big choices toward the end of my senior yearregarding my freshman year in college. Was I going to enroll for fallclasses? What classes was I going to take? Would I enroll for spring? When should I set up my assessment tests?

The answers all revolved around my trip to Europe as a Student Am-bassador, beginning so soon after graduation that my head was still

spinning and which took twenty days of my summer. This made mytime frame for setting up my assessment tests a little smaller. I dis-covered that it would have been ideal to enroll in fall classes right inthe beginning of summer because the classes fill up QUICK. Oh mygoodness they fill up quick! By the time I returned from my trip, andwas able to set an appointment for my assessment tests actuallytake the tests and then see which classes Im qualified for, a vastmajority of the classes that I wanted to take were already full. Icouldnt even get on a waitlist.

    Thats how full they were!

Now, did I let that push me down and stop me from f inding anything?NOPE! :) Instead, I found some classes that would help me improvein my career and help me improve physically. :) How? Youask. Well, I decided that if I couldnt take an actual English class, Iwould find some type of English elective that would round out what Ialready know about writing or find an English elective that would giveme more ideas for my writing. At first I looked for Creative Writingclasses. I found them they were full. Imagine that? However, whilescrolling down the list of selections, I found a subject that Ive beendying to take. I thought it might be helpful when creating my charac-ter histories or backgrounds. There was my answer; I had found Eng-lish: World Mythology! And there were a few more spots left in theclass for the taking! I was so excited to have finally found somethingthat I actually wanted to take and was able to register for it :) I hadalso found English: Science-Fiction/Fantasy, which I plan to take nextsemester, with my English class. Another plus, I was starting to figurethis system out.

Now, as for the classes that help me out physically; The upside to notreally being able to get into the classes that I wanted was that I wasable to register for a couple of classes that would be fun for me totake. I could get to know the campus a little better and stay involvedin the college. I managed to register for a morning Pilates (type ofYoga) class and a Ballet Fundamentals class in the evening that fo-cuses on barre and floor combinations. Both classes will help mestay in shape and help me keep my healthy habits going :) I love Bal-let, but it has been a while so I thought it is wise to stick with the fun-damentals. I spent far too long playing hockey.

What Im really trying to get at is, Dont give up. No matter what it is,or how left behind you feel, Dont give up. And if you still cant findthe one thing you really want or need, then Whats the next bestthing that you can have or do until you are able to get what you wantor need? How could you make what youre doing fun? How canyou get the most out of what you are doing now? Just dont give up,and youll be able to find a way. :) Nothing will stop me for gettingwhere I need to be. I may have detours, but Ill find a way to makethe most of it or learn something from each one. My hope is that youkeep pushing through no matter what and find your way! Thats whatI did, and nervous or not, I cant wait for my classes to begin :)

Charles Martin "Chuck" Jones (September 21, 1912

February 22, 2002) was an American animator, cartoon

artist, screenwriter, producer, and director of animated

films, most memorably of Looney Tunes and Merrie

Melodies shorts for the Warner Bros. Cartoons studio.

He directed many of the classic short animated cartoonsstarring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, the Road Runner and

Wile E. Coyote, Sylvester, Pep Le Pew and a slew of

other Warner characters. Three of these shorts (Duck

Amuck, One Froggy Evening and What's Opera, Doc?)

were later inducted into the National Film Registry. Chief

among Jones' other works was the famous "Hunting Tril-

ogy" of Rabbit Fire, Rabbit Seasoning, and Duck! Rabbit,

Duck! (19511953). After his extraordinary career at

Warner Bros. ended in1962, Jones started Sib Tower

12 Productions and began producing memorable car-

toons for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, including a new

series of Tom and Jerry shorts and the television ad-

aptation of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

He later started his own studio, Chuck Jones Produc-

tions, which created several one-shot specials, andperiodically worked on Looney Tunes related works.Film historian Leonard Maltin has praised Jones' work

at Warner Bros., MGM and Chuck Jones Productions.

He also noted that the "feud" that there may have

been between Jones and colleague Robert Clampett

was mainly because they were so different from each

other. Chuck Jones' character styles were more con-

trolled and calmed down, while Bob Clampett's were

    crazy, wacky and insane.

hours. It is a stormy blue planet with a molten rock core. Around the core is a layer of very cold

water, which moves gradually into a top layer which is made of hydrogen, helium, and a small

amount of methane. This methane gives the planet its blue color. Like the other gas planets,Neptune has rings. Neptunes rings are made of small, dark clumps of rock. 8 known moons

    Persistent Friends

Jacks father walked into the room and set down one more photo. Why are these all pictures of Aunt Heather?" he asked hisfather who looked at him, sorrow in his eyes. His father grabbed the leather ottoman and pulled it up to the table motioning forJack to join him.

Today is a special day. Do you know what today is? his father asked.

Jack searched his mind but could not come up with a good guess. Tuesday? he asked. Yes. Tuesday the eleventh of September. It was another Tuesday on September eleventh, eleven years ago today thatsome bad people did some bad things.Jack, only eight years old, looked inquisitively at his father, not quite understanding what he was talking about. Why? Well, its complicated. His father replied, paused, then continued On that day Aunt Heather was on a flight home one of thebad men took over the plane she was on and crashed it into a building in New York C ity.Jack didnt speak for a moment, consumed with this unwelcome news. Was she scared?A tear rolled down his fathers cheek. Mommy and I have wondered that same thing, many times. The truth is, it probablyhappened so quickly that she didnt have enough time to be scared. At least thats what we hope.

Now the questions began. His father knew the barrage of questions was upon him and intended to discuss them regardlessof his apprehension. It was critical that Jack understood. Will it happen again? Will bad people attack with planes again? Jack asked. I dont know, but people all over the world try to prevent it from happening again, but the truth is, there will always be peopleout there that want to hurt others. Why didnt Aunt Heather stop them? Jack inquired innocently. Its not that easy Jack. They were very strong and it was a very confusing and scary moment. Why do people hurt people? Dont they have kids? Dont they have mommies and daddies too?

I dont know son. His father said cautiously.

Jack thought about this for a long time and then decided to go out to his tree house. He climbed up the ladder and saw hisfriend Elaine, seated on a chair. Hi. He said meekly and sat down beside her.Do you know what today is? she asked.Uh huh. Its Tuesday. Its nine eleven. She replied despondently matching his somber presence.I know.Elaine looked at Jack, Why do you suppose people hurt all those people back then?I guess they were angry? He replied. Why couldnt they just talk? So many peoples mommies didnt come home right? Its so stupid. Her voice broke as shespoke these last words causing her eyes to well up, though she held back her tears.Jack looked at his friend, sensing some deep hurt but was unwilling to push. You know, I think maybe it was to teach ussomething.Teach us? What could it possibly teach us? she asked.Well, it taught my daddy to appreciate the family he has. It taught you and me to think about this stuff. Maybe if we thinkabout it and we teach other people to think about it, it wont happen again.May be. She said, looking back out the window on the lawn below. She placed her head on her folded hands.

Maybe we will just realize one day that we are all the same. We are all just trying to be friends in this world and we need todo it together.Im glad I have you as my friend. He said. She smiled and looked at him. Me too. and the two hugged.

    Bad things and good thoughts

Jack walked into the living room to see a photo of a beautiful youngwoman in a silver frame. It sat upon a small table across from the sofaaccompanied by other smaller photos featuring the same woman whomhe knew to be his aunt, yet he never met her. There was a quiet soli-tude shared by the small grouping of photos as two flames dancedabout in the glass panes from the candles set amongst the frames.

Not all patents end up paying off royalty. It may happen thatyou spend on getting something patented that turns out to betoo ahead of time or probably no one finds it cool. For exam-ple, Head-gear in the form of a beer barrel (US5966743).

In case there is a case of someone using your patent withoutyour permission, you will first need to find out about it and thengo to court and fight for it. Individually, one may not have asmany resources to check the unpermitted usage and take cor-responding action.

If you are working in a company and carefully read the docu-ments you signed at the time of joining, youll know that yourinventions during your tenure shall be deemed as the Intellec-tual Property of the company.

Companies usually do offer handsome rewards when you submit your

patent and it gets approved as more patents gives them better reputa-

tion in market and protection from competitors. The inventor gets pa-

tent in his name and some immediate reward but of course, that may be

nothing compared to what royalty you might have received in future if it

would turn out to be a big hit. Sounds discouraging? Yes it is but youve

got to do the best you can with what you have. Here are the two choices:

    1. You keep the invention to yourself until you are able to take

it forward individually. By the way, someone else may also

get the same idea and get it patented while you wait.

    2. You take name and immediate rewards, give ownership to

the company who shall verify if the idea is worth spending

the mentioned sum, get attorneys to take it forward, submit

and follow up with the patent office. The idea shall be pa-

tented in your name but becomes the property of the com-

pany. They shall deal with patent infringement and all but al-so rake the benefits.

I have chosen to go with second option till I am capable enough to

get ideas patented on my own as one thing I am sure of myself is that

I am not going to run out of ideas.I hope you are finding this series impacting you positively. Let us

    know your feedback/comments @[email protected].

    Keep smiling

Whose invention is itanyway?very well-written andinformative but howdoes Intellectual Propertystuff fits in an InspirationalMagazine? my friendlooked bewildered as shepresented her query.

What do you think? Iasked as she did not buythat I bribe the chief-editorto include them. :D

    People generally arent

aware of such things andafter knowing, they may get inspired to think more on these lines?her eyes widened as they exhibited interrogative expressions.Exactly I confirmed, Inspiration through Information is the objectiveof this eMag and through these articles, I intend to inspire more peo-ple to be inventors...In case that was a question in your head too; well, now you know theanswer. By the way, Dialogue That Speaks, an article by Jody Labelin the Aug edition is what inspired me to explore a different writingstyle and share this dialogue here.

Now, lets get back to our topic, Why would an inventor cede theownership of the invention to someone or an organization? After all, itwas his inventions and creative imagination which made Thomas Al-va Edison one of the richest inventors ever. The records say that hewas worth over 20 billion dollars. Probably, inventors arent that smartthese days in financial terms. Probably! As I understand, there are multiple points in the answer to aforemen-

tioned question: Patenting is highly expensive: I learnt from a Patent attorney

at Citrix that now-a-days at USPTO, process for one patentincurs a cost of about $50,000. I sure dont know of manypeople who would be able to shell out that much amount, doyou?

Patenting is a long process: It takes couple of months just toprepare the application in required format and years, 6 to 8 atan average for a patent to be granted. So, if it is granted andstarts fetching you royalty, it will still be a long time beforeyour investment starts paying off.

or those around you, but you do have control and the ability tochange one thingyourself. Be accepting this fact, the moods andactions of those around will hold less impact. You will find an innerstrength of being, which will allow you to keep your positive frameof mind.

One way to further cement your commitment to being a positiveperson is go to the root of your passions. What are you passionateabout? When you think of an activity that brings you immensepleasure, what is it? Has your passion been squashed out of yourlife by other responsibilities? Have you let it slip to the background? If your passion is writing or something in the arts, do you allow cri-tiques to diminish your deriving of joy?

If you know there are obstructions to your pursuing your passions,

only you can change it. Narrow in on exactly what is causing this, and then CHOOSE TO push beyond any barriers.

As discussed above, we do have the choice as to which directionour life will go, and on a smaller level how each day and every in-teraction will go. While its true we encounter unpleasant conflictsin life, its what we do with these that matter.

Here are a few tips to reignite our passion(s):

    CHOOSE TO be positive.

Sadly, there are a lot of unhappy people that hate to see otherspursuing their dreams and passions. They will shrug their shoul-ders when you express your excitement, and maybe theyll dis-count you with an attitude that communicates you wont go an y-where with this.

But remember, even if these reactions are truly negative (and notself-imposed, coming from a negativity within yourself and beingprojected) you have the choice on how to respond. Dig down to thecore of your passion, analyze how it makes you feel, how it makesyou a better and more positive person, how it de-stresses you, howit infuses you with purpose. By realizing how important this aspectof your life is, you will not let the naysayers dissuade you.

You will not let these people have power over you. YOU controlYOUR life, YOUR passions. No one can dredge that from yoursoulunless you allow them to.

    CHOOSE TO learn from obstacles.

Theres no way around it, you will face obstacles. It is what you dowith them.

Do you let every negative encounter get you down? Do you let

larger setbacks stop the pursuit of your passion?

If so, Im sad for you and hope this post will help reignite your de-termination to be true to yourself. We have to utilize these conflictsand make them work for us. Instead of focusing on the negative, Igive up,focus on the positive: what can I learn from this? In look-ing at things this way we empower ourselves, not the situation.

    CHOOSE TO be unwavering.

Building on the previous point, by empowering ourselves, we arenot expelling our energy in vain. We will have energy to pursue ourpassion. We will make it happen! And when we make it happen, weshine!

Each one of usdetermines whetherwe will have a good

day or good day or a

bad one. You maythinkthat external forcescan change thedirection we choose, and youwould be rightto anextent. But in the end,it all depends on ourreaction to a situation,

and unless its an extremecircumstance such as the loss of a lovedone, we can easily mold the outcome.

How, you may ask? Harness the power of positive thinking and thewords I choose to.

How beneficial is positive thinking? Its an enabler and a tool to moti-vate us in the right direction. By having a positive outlook, it will re-turn to us. Good things will happen.

Think of it this way: a co-worker is having a bad day and everythingout of their mouth is negative. If you allow it to, youll find yourselfwith the same complaining attitude. Their bad mood soured yourday. Therefore, working in reverse, if you refuse to allow their out-look to affect your determination to have a good day, your positivitywill rub off on them.

Challenge: Go into work resolved to have a good daychoose to.Greet everyone with a smile and Good morning and see how theyreact. Some may not be infused yet, but youve laid the basis. If they

scowl or say something like yep, or deflect your positivity with anegative shield, do not allow it to penetrate. When people complainduring the day, be tactful yet positive and try to realign their outlook. For example, a co-worker is irritated because another departmentkeeps messing up, leaving them to rectify things. Could you saysomething like, Oh, will you even care about this a year from now?,or You know its going to happen every day, don t let it get to you somuch. You cant change them, but you can change how you react. Will you care about this once you go home tonight? Offer yourwords, your kind correction of attitude, with a sincere smile. Youmight get a mumble initially, but I find for the most part people wantto be happy and a gentle reminder such as this can change the tonesignificantly.

Benefits to being a positive thinker is you will better cope with stressand be healthier for it. Researchers have even found that peoplewho were optimistic about a specific and important part of their lives, such as how well they were doing in school, exhibited a stronger

immune response than those who had a more negative view of thesituation. And we know that stress and depression can lead to nu-merous health problems ranging from minor to life-threatening.

This leads us to the second point of how we determine whether ornot we have a good day. CHOOSE TO. Powerful words if you reallythink about them, life-changing if you allow them to be.

You may have no choice when it comes to working for a living, mostof us have to. We do, however, have some choice when it comes toour place and position of employment. But, even if you find yourselfin employment that isnt your ideal situation, make the best of it. BEHAPPY IN THE NOW.

Remember that you may not be able to change your circumstances,

    Getting There

shot my destination by a good two hours driving, but I wasnt dis-couraged. I would get there.

I turned and drove north. When night fell I was on a small road wind-ing through the hills. I pulled off into a village and got the last room inthe only hotel. I went out for a walk to stretch my legs. A full moonhad risen; the village was quaint and utterly peaceful. That night Islept like a baby in an enormous bed whose sheets were of cool linenand fragrant with lavender.

Next morning I phoned the hotel where the wedding was and whereId been supposed to stay the night before. I told the guy at receptionwhere I was. WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU DOING THERE? heshouted in shock down the phone. I thought you were coming fromSwitzerland? I told him I had. Then WHY are you there?

Two hours later, when I arrived at the hotel after a delicious drivethrough glorious scenery, I received a heros welcomeHotel staff andfamily actually clapped me into the hotel. I was celebrated as themost intrepid of explorers, the bravest of creatures, the most coura-geous of drivers!

Nobody could understand why I wasnt furious about my detour.Howcould I be? Hadnt I solved a nagging problem, made a lifelong friend, laughed so hard I thought Id die, discovered a charming village, sleptin the best bed ever?

I made the journey part of the experience and life is exactly the same.Life is not something that begins once you have more money, changejobs, retire, or your kids finish college. Life is NOW! Its every secondof every day and you can make those seconds count by making themost of them. Or - you can waste them by wishing them away, untilone day you wake up and wonder where theyve all gone.

So tomorrow, when I set off, I wont be plugging in the GPS or poringover a map. I have a vague notion of where Im going and thats goodenough for me. Whatever happens, I will enjoy the journey and I willget there.

Tomorrow Im drivingto Italy on holiday. The last time I drovethere was for acousins wedding. Thedrive was supposed totake six hours. I setoff on the Fridaymorning at 9.30 amand arrived at11.30 am the next

daya mere half an hour before the wedding started!

How could a six hour journey end up taking 26? Luckily, Im some-

one who loves the open road. I find driving relaxing. I listen to myfavourite music. I do a lot of thinking. Im not someone for whom thejourney is just a necessary evil to reach the destination.

I started off with a reasonable notion of where I was going UKguests were flying to a certain Italian airport, so my plan was tomake for that town and pick up the signs for the village there. I droveover the mountains from Switzerland into Italy. It was a sunny day,the scenery spectacular. In Italy, I learned to drive like an Italian (notnecessarily a good idea.) I stopped at a service station and struck upa conversation with a woman, who has become a close friend. I car-ried on. I drove and drove. With the luxury of time to think, I solved aproblem that had been bugging me for a long time. I felt so happy. Istopped for a coffee, sharing a table with a British couple, who wereso funny I thought I might die from laughing.

The sun became a huge red ball and still I was driving. Eventually, Isaw a sign for the town of Rimini. Id been on holiday there when I

was 19 and laughed out loud, remembering the fun wed had eat-ing spaghetti for the first time, our first real cappuccinos, acting stu-pid, flirting with the local boys. But I also knew that Rimini wasMILES away from where I needed to be. I stopped at a garage andbought a map (something I dont bother with normally.) I had over

everyday growth itself is a big hurdle which is putting people un-der pressure. Evaluation techniques of one's skills and knowledgeare also getting tougher day by day just to filter the rest from thebest. This heavy competition is putting tremendous pressure onpeople to extend their working hours to survive in the competitionelse they know that they will be washed out. While struggling toupdate and compete one is surrounded with a lot of other re-strictions which make life even more uncomfortable.

The very simple solution logically to deal with this but a bit chal-lenging approach practically is to first give time for you to talk withyourself. The worst thing that can happen to someone is thathe/she might die; and death is something that is bound to occur. When you're definite about the worst thing that can happen to youand have accepted it, then anything else is just a passing phase

of life for which you don't have to give away your life. Just tellyourself that you will give your best to accomplish everything thatis possible and start listing down the tasks that you have to do."Too many things undone on the mind is stress" - courtesyEr. Sujit Lalwani. Once you have listed down, chart out a roughplan of the approach that you're going to follow and the time yourequire to accomplish each task. This will clearly tell you if youcan complete all of them within the prescribed deadline or not. Then you can reorder the priorities and probably extend the dead-line as well as per the new plan to complete all the tasks. As soonas this plan is charted out and finalised you will be surely relievedof all the pressure. Last but not the least important point is to en-sure that you enjoy while executing your plan and try to increaseyour efficiency in order to complete the tasks well before thedeadline; so that you have enough time to review the same. Ihope this helps you out resolve a lot of things, like it helped me.Wish you a stress-free happy life.

Well! This was a topic thatI wanted to address froma very long time. In fact Imyself have been throughthese situations many atimes and have lost manybattles to come out ofthe same. As experiencegrew and exposureincreased, I started usingcertain preachedtechniques and alsodiscovered few on myown to combat these. Intoday's busy world

wherein people are burdened with 'n' number of work and respon-sibilities it is quite natural for one to yield to situations of stress, pressure and discomfort. Be it a student or a working individual inany field, there are challenges everywhere that need to be facedand accomplished within predefined deadline with the expectedquality. Unwanted restrictions are just making life more miserablefor people. So what are the reasons for this and how do we dealwith them is the content of the next part.

Information keeps increasing every day. Restructuring of knowl-edge evolves continuously. Methods get fine-tuned and new devel-opments are bound to occur in every phase of life. Unfortunatelythe human mind cannot update itself in comparison to the devel-opment happening around. But, in order to survive one is forcedupon to improve on a daily basis. There's a famous quote whichgoes like this "If you are not updated then you are outdated". In-deed the statement is very true. So this simple expectation of
