Testimonial on Unibic plant visit We, the students of ITM Chennai had the privilege of going on an industrial visit to one of our most favorite cookie brands: UNIBIC . The factory is situated in Bangalore where we were guided through the whole manufacturing process of the cookies with insightful explanations on their inventory management and other management facets. The stocking of all raw materials was shown to us with explanations on why each material was kept in a particular place or for a particular period of time depending on their individual shelf lives. As marketing and international business students, it was very crucial for us to learn about how Unibic has been able to penetrate the Indian market. This was explained to us by the company guide assigned to us who took us through the timeline of Unibic; since the time it entered India as a subsidiary of its Australian origin company until 2004 when they started independent operations in India. We also learnt about certain technical aspects of cookie making such as the differentiation in ingredients between the diverse array of flavors launched. This was done by means of a guided tour through the entire factory where we saw the product taking form; right from plain flour to their neatly packed cookie trays. We learnt about the technicalities involved in the machinery used and in the packaging processes implemented. Comparative inferences were also drawn between Unibic and their competitors in terms of the content in each cookie, their packaging differences, quality and safety control measures and also their promotional strategies. The tour then ended on a sweet note with the distribution of biscuit packets to all students for us to taste what we saw and the biscuits now tasted better than ever as they were now coupled with knowledge on all the effort being put behind their making; which made us appreciate every bite all the more for what it is worth.
