4 PAMOKA. COLLEAGUES AT WORK

I assisted a journalist John who presented information about economy of

England. We travelled much, talked to famous people, scientists and politicians.

John was my teacher and I learnt a lot from him. The most important lesson I

learnt was to ask the right questions. John had a very good sense of humor. He

was very frank and honest. A year ago John decided I was ready to work alone.

I have my assistant George now and we work on culture issues. We prepare

reports about cultural events in London and the whole England. George is smart

and he learns fast. George and I work together with a cameraman Sean. Sean

is already 50 years old but he is very energetic and funny. He is also our driver.

His Mini Cooper drives fast indeed with loud music on. Mini Cooper is our office

as we travel a lot. We start our work at 8 in the morning and usually finish at 5

in the evening. George and Sean stay at work until 6 or 7 in the evening. I can’t

stay longer as I have to be at university. We sometimes work on weekends if

there are cultural events that can be interesting. I really like my team George

and Sean! They are great!

My boss is an Englishman Henry. He is very strict but diplomatic man. I hope

one day I’ll get promotion and pay rise. I want to have my own TV program on

culture, travel and food. I hope after a year I have it and you’ll see me on TV. It

will be my promotion.

George and Sean. We had breakfast together. We didn’t have to check in. We

checked in online. We got through airport security quite quickly. They X-rayed

our hand luggage, checked our papers and soon we found our gates. On the

plane we all had a nap. Our flight was short. It was one hour and fifteen minutes.

Page 12: Iveik Anglu Kalba

hand luggage. I check in at the airport if I need to check in my luggage. At the

airport I try to get through security as soon as possible. I find my gates and then

Page 14: Iveik Anglu Kalba

enjoy coffee or visit duty free shops. Of course when the plane is late it annoys

me. I try to have a book or magazine with me to spend time. When the flight is

cancelled it is bad. It is important to have travel insurance. In such cases

insurance covers your expenses. The most pleasant thing at the airport is to see

the sign boarding. It means you show your documents to the airport employees

and go to the plane. Taking off and landing are not always very nice but they

are short. On the plane you can read, sleep, listen to music and have some meal.

9 PAMOKA. SHOPPING

Today is Saturday. Today is the day off. I don’t have to go to work. This weekend

I don’t have to prepare any reports for BBC.

I woke up at 9am. I watched current news on TV. At quarter past nine I got up

and went out to jog. I met Franco and we both were jogging for about one hour.

Later I returned home, took a shower, changed and again went out for breakfast.

During our breakfast Franco and I decided to go shopping.

I don’t like shopping. I hate long queues at the check-out. It is usually difficult

to find a parking place. Shops are usually crowded, it’s always hot and you forget

what you want to buy.

Anyway Franco wanted to buy a new pair of shoes, a jacket and some T-shirt.

Franco is very fashionable and wants to look up to date. He wants to prepare for

spring season.

Shopping was successful. Franco was very lucky to get everything he wanted.

We bought some food for dinner and returned home. While shopping we met our

friends Alan and Vicky. We invited them to have dinner in the evening at my

place. We spent a nice evening together while chatting, watching TV, eating and

10 PAMOKA. MEDIA

I hope that you remember my profession. For those who don‘t remember it I‘ll

remind. I am a journalist. I work for BBC.

More often I start thinking about the use of television. It is a very powerful tool

to get information. It can change a person‘s life in one day, however watching

TV becomes a bit of waste of time.

You can find all current information on the internet. Internet is available

everywhere. It is enough to have a cell phone and you can contact the entire

world by pressing one button. You can use Youtube for watching short movies

Page 23: Iveik Anglu Kalba

Anglų kalbos kursai Jūsų namuose!

about history, travelling, cooking, and medicine, whatever. You can even watch

movies as long as you send them to your computer by internet.

Modern television presents itself on the internet as well. All soap operas are

available on the internet. Sitting on the sofa and watching TV becomes luxury.

People don’t have much free time. They are busy at work. They try to spend

their free time outside or going in for sports, travelling or doing something. They

simply don’t find time for watching TV. I think that the main audience for

watching TV is retired people. They have more free time and can afford that.

To be honest I watch TV very rarely. I even do not switch it on as some

background. I better listen to music and have some rest from big amount of

information.
