Your correspondent met a gentleman yesterday who gives tho following ot n most singular evidence of in telllgenco on tho part of a liorao belong- ing to K. Ij. Monro ot this parisli. Tim horso'a namo is Dixie, anil Mooro raised him from n colt and is much nttnc-hu- l to thouniuinL During tho spring of 1891 Dixie's kneo waa hurt whllo cmploywl reimlring levees, and for some weeks thereafter ho was not oblo to work at all and waa allownl to run looso In tho pasture and alxmt tho place. Ono morning, w hen tho hands were all tho llolda at work and .Mooro himself was riding after them, they heard a vio- lent ringing of the big plantation bell liack at tho housn. Thinking something drooilfnl had hnpppcucd to his wife or children pcrhaix, Mooro put spura to his horse, and calling lo tho hands to follow galloped np to thn house.' When he got there, ho found Mrs. Mooro and tho children aafo and sound and very much nmawl nt old Dixie, who had managed to open the yard gato and waa pulling on tho bell ropo liko a crazy thing. All their efforts to drive the horso nway had been in vain. Ho only continued to ring the licll moro loudly. Mooro began to susiioct that Diiio might know what ho waa about, after all, and went out to Investigate. When tho horso saw his master, ho let go the boll ropo and ran off toward tho pasture, looking back and tossing his head at ev- ery step, as if to say, "Como 011 1" Mocre soon saw that something nnasual had occurred and followed after Dixio fast as ho could. Tho horso mado straight for tho leveo at tho lower end of tho pustnro and stopped short under n big Cottonwood tree. When Mooro auno np, what was his astonishment to eoo a little, break in the levee, with tho water trickling through. Quickly muumouing tho hands, Urn breach waa soon healed. But for Dixlo's timely warning, how- ever, Iho leveo would liavo gono and the wholo placo would ha'0 been over- flowed. Bedford (La.) Cor. Philadel-phi- a Times. CATS HARD TO TRAIN. Whenhe got there, ho found Mrs. Mooro andtho children aafo and sound and verymuch nmawl nt old Dixie, who hadmanaged to open the yard gato and waapulling on tho bell ropo liko a crazything. All their efforts to drive thehorso nway had been in vain. Ho onlycontinued to ring the licll moro loudly.

Mooro began to susiioct that Diiiomight know what ho waa about, afterall, and went out to Investigate. Whentho horso saw his master, ho let go theboll ropo and ran off toward tho pasture, looking back and tossing his head at ev-ery step, as if to say, "Como 011 1"Mocre soon saw that something nnasualhad occurred and followed after Dixio
