Six students were honored and showered with congratulations for their many accomplishments. Thank you to the community for your continued support in attending the graduation exercises to acknowledge the thir- teen years of schooling the students completed. We want to wish our graduates all the best in their future endeavors as they stay Forever Young”. Athletics certainly has not slowed with track and field in full swing during the month of May. Our senior students competed at the city and district events, representing Canwood with great sports- manship, congratulations! A big thank you to our friends down the road in Debden for again hosting the elementary/middle years track and field day. In addition to a great day of competition, we had many senior students volunteer to help run events and the canteen. Great job all around. Thank you to Mr. Duval, Mrs. Howat, Mrs. Hansen and Mrs. Batten for coaching track and field. Football has re- turned to Canwood. For the past few years Canwood has partnered with Shellbrook in the six man tackle football league. We are continuing this partnership and for the first time in many years hosted a two day mini camp for Canwood students to try on the equipment and run through some drills. The teams spring camp will be held in June at Shellbrook. Progress towards our reading goal is still going strong, and we are in the final stages of DRA testing for the year. We will be having a Dream Catcher goal celebration towards the end of June to cele- brate all the hard work and many accomplishments of our young readers. If you are looking for fun ideas to keep reading on the front burner during the summer, please contact the school. My personal favorite summer reading activity is telling ghost stories around the campfire (hopefully the rain comes and fire bans are lifted). Thank you to all parents/guardians for encouraging your children to remain focused for the last month of school, work diligently to complete all final projects, and study for final exams. -Mr. Brian Linn & Mr. Richard Schwehr WPP May Birthdays - Students from Canwood School provided an afternoon of entertainment for the May birthday celebrants Marie–Rose Lajeunesse and Kathy Yurkowski. It was a very special birthday for Marie-Rose who turned 101 this month. The program partici- pants sang, played violin & guitar, put on a boxing demonstration and danced. Our M.C.s were Casey Kvinlaug & Cassidy Anderson. Our entertainment con- sisted of Georgia Hamborg, Becky Wilson, Jorja Robertson, Ava Eberts, Jaden Schutte, Molly Maynard, Olivia Skarra, Selena Andersen, Kyrah Ernst, Sadie Schutte, Jacklyn Sten and Denaye Hansen. The afternoon wrapped up with Happy Birthday being sung and cake (made by the Commer- cial Cooking class) enjoyed by all. Happy Birthday Marie-Rose and Kathy.

School Bus Registration - All new students for the 2018-2019 school year need to register in order to be picked up by their school bus in the fall. Any students who were registered this year only need to register again if their land location or contact information has changed. Registering online is quick

and easy. Doing so now will ensure your child is placed on the proper bus for the first day of school. Not registering on time will result in delays in having your child assigned a bus. It may take

several days into the new school year to arrange their busing.

The direct link to register is https://www3.srsd119.ca/busgarage/transport/request.php or google “Sask Rivers School Division” or “SRSD119” and look for “Transportation Requests” in the green band towards the bottom of the page. Another option is to visit the Canwood School website and under Parent Infor-

mation click on School Bus Registration. If you have any questions please con-tact Canwood Public School 306-468-2150 or the Transportation Department at Sask Rivers School Division 306-763-2323.

LIBRARY NEWS

A special Thank You to all the students who have already returned their library books this school year. Books can not be signed out of the library after June 8. All books must be returned by June 15 so that I can start inventory with a full library. If anyone finds a library book over the summer (it

may have a Canwood Community School barcode on the back right-hand corner or a label on the spine of the book), please hang on to it and return it in the fall as books are very expensive and we would like to keep our local school library as full as possible.

If anyone has a copy of The Chronicles of Canwood and District History Book 1981 to donate to the library to sit alongside the 100th Birthday edition, it would be greatly appreciated.

-Mrs. Tracy Pease

SCHOOL SPORTS

Regional Badminton Playoffs - One win away……the Boys’ Doubles team of Riley Rude and Briar Cain was that close to advancing to the provincial badminton playoffs. Dylan Kvinlaug capped off his High School badminton career thinking the same phrase. One win away……….

The fore mentioned three players attended the Regional SHSAA badminton playoff in Foam Lake on May 5 and both groups finished pool play with 2 wins and 1 loss records. They each advanced to the semi finals in the playoff round. One victory would have put them in the regional final and also would have advanced them to the provincial playoffs. Unfortunately they each ran into very stiff competi-tion and lost close matches. This ended the season for the Canwood Cougar contingent. Hopefully Ri-

ley and Briar can match their performance next year. Congratulations to Dylan for all of his dedica-tion to the Cougar Badminton Team over the past years. -Mr. Grant Person
