HARRY AllEn – tEnoR SAxBorn in Washington, D.C., Allen received a bachelor’s degree in music from Rutgers University in New Jersey, and currently resides in New York City. Allen has over 30 recordings to his name, and has performed at jazz festi-vals and clubs worldwide, frequently touring the United States, Europe and Asia.

A respected vocal clinician, adjudicator, and mentor, Daniels presents clinics, workshops, and master classes around the world.
MiMi Fox – GuitARAn internationally renowned guitarist/composer/recording artist, Fox started playing drums at nine and guitar when she was ten. Whether delivering jaw-dropping solo sets, performing dazzling duets with sympathetic partners,
or leading a hard-charging combo, Fox is a consummate improviser.

award-winning Bay Area bassist Marcus Shelby and veteran drummer Carlton Jackson – to
revisit the introspective elegance and sophisticated soundscape of the modern jazz quartet. Created in 2013 by Grant for a Portland Jazz Festival tribute, MJ New carries on the MJQ tradition of merging classical music, American song, and blues, and
features the compositions of John Lewis and Milt Jackson.

Born in New York in 1963, Benny Green grew up in Berke-ley, Calif., and began classical piano studies at the age of seven. Beginning his touring life with Betty Carter for four years, he then realized a life-long dream of joining Art
Blakey’s Jazz Messengers; appearing on well over 100 re-cordings, he’s also led his own groups, including this trio with

bassist David Wong and drummer Rodney Green. An in-demand NYC bassist, Wong was born and raised in New York City, graduating in 2004 from the Juilliard School in classical music. Drummer Green
enjoys a rep for extraordinary range, developed during a touring career in NYC and abroad that started when he was just 17.
REbECCA KilGoRE – voCAlSA Portland-based vocalist with more than 40 recordings to her name, Kilgore finds particular delight in preserving and interpreting the music of the Great American Songbook. She leads her own quartet, as well as being a frequent
collaborator with legendary pianist Dave Frishberg.
niCKi PARRott – bASS/voCAlSThis Australian-born, NYC-based bassist singer brings clear articulation, beautiful tone, a sense of rhythmic assured-ness and a touch of allure to inventive arrangements. She appears at jazz festivals all over the world, as well as maintaining regular gigs, as well as a successful recording career.
KEn PEPlowSKi – ClARinEt/tEnoR SAxThe late Mel Tormé said, “Since the advent of Benny Goodman, there have been too few clarinetists to fill the void that Goodman left. Ken Peplowski is most certainly one of those few. The man is magic.” Peplowski has been delighting audiences for over 30 years with his warmth, wit, and virtuosic musicianship in all styles of jazz.
RAnDY PoRtER – PiAnoJazz pianist, composer and arranger Porter has a refined understanding of improvisation and the spontaneous communication between musicians. A teacher and recording artist living in Portland, Randy is a revered talent in the Northwest.
CHuCK REDD – DRuMS/vibESA seasoned performer on both drums and vibraphone, Redd began performing and recording internationally when he joined the Charlie Byrd Trio in 1980 at the age of 21. As well as lead-
ing his own groups, Chuck was a member of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra for 15 years. Redd will be perform-
ing repertoire from one of his new projects: the big band charts given to him by vibes legend Terry Gibbs.
toDD StRAit – DRuMSNow living in Portland, via Kansas City, Strait has been playing drums all his life. He is one of the most in-demand drummers, having toured for many years with Karrin Allyson and Eldar Djangirov. Strait is an audience favorite at OCJP.
bYRon StRiPlinG – tRuMPEt/voCAlSA spectacular trumpeter with a very wide range, a beautiful tone, and the ability to blend together many influences into his own style, Byron Stripling is also the artistic director of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, leader of his own quartet, and constantly in demand to play with pops orchestras around the world.
SwinG SHiFt JAzz oRCHEStRACelebrating its 35th year, the Eugene-based ensemble is inspired by the music and driv-ing beat of Basie, Ellington, Kenton, Holman, and Herman, to name a few. The band’s five saxophones, eight brass and four-piece rhythm section are today’s version of hard-swinging, big band jazz. Swing Shift Jazz Orchestra performs regularly in concert with an array of international guest artists. The 17 members consist primarily of professional musicians, nearly all of whom perform with or lead
other bands.
toM wAKElinG – bASSThe music department chair at Clackamas Community College in Portland, Wakeling has put his bass to work in a 30-plus-year career on concert and nightclub stages and in recording
studios. He’s a popular guest artist at a wide variety of jazz and educational festivals and workshops, including OCJP in Newport.
MiKE woFFoRD – PiAnoHaving appeared on over 100 recordings as a sideman, Wof-ford is known for his elegant and unique harmonic approach to jazz piano. Jazz legend Benny Golson calls him “a quintes-
sential musician [who] inspires as he plays.”
