Jacquline Hurlbert first moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1993, where she currently works as aproessional artist in Oregon. She earned her Bachelors degree in Art with honors rom theUniversity o Nebraska and later her masters degree in Sculpture and Ceramics romCaliornia State University. Her work is requently shown across the Pacific Northwest and

    Southwestern states.

Her pieces communicate a non linearnarrative beyond representation or pureaesthetics. She has created a visual vocabularyo symbolism. Tis personal language enablesher to explore her sense o sel, how sheperceives she is judged by others, and thestruggle or acceptance as an ongoing journey

She illustrates her vulnerability in a courageoucarnival o color, good humor, and charm.Characters conceived to represent difficultaspects o her sel become amiliar riends witwhich she plays. Tere is a celebratoryjoyullness about her work. She writes,Coming up for air, thats how I feel. Ive had a

growing number of creative ideas and desiresthat have been submerged deep in the layers of

my psyche and now they want their voices to beheard. Tis new voice is a culmination of my

past knowledge, ideas, and techniques meetingup with my present desire to express myself freeland fully, without fear or hesitation.

Te notion o reworking over past thoughts and inclinations and the truth that these ormativeelements are never truly obliterated are both concepts that also inorm Hurlberts artistic process.Tese past histories are important to the way in which the artist develops her content and imagery

She will rework a piece many times, ofen resulting in an entirely different image than that whichinitially inhabited her consciousness. Tese layers o unseen narrative may only be ully known tothe artist. For us, as the viewers, we are enthralled by a surace that hints at hidden secrets behindthe veil.
