Our role as designers is always shifting. We take for granted that we still need to design the individual devices well, but to produce meaningful solutions. We also need to understand the inter-relationships between each device. Focus is shifting towards orchestrating experience, than designing the single product.
To produce a cutting edge mobile and multi-platform user experience targeted for a specific user.
The final outcome can predominatly be a service, application or system. However the final design must include a pyhsical device that supports, accompanies and/or interface with your platform.

The initial stage of the project concerned identifying the target user. The main aim of this stage was to develop a detailed understanding of who these people are and what they do.
Once we had selected our target user the focus then was around particular requirements/preferences that the user may have.
The market opted for are University students, however the product can possibly be opened to a greater market in the future. Within the market I have focused on first year students who have moved away from home. The students are new to cooking for themselves on a regular basis and have to build a good knowledge of preparing a variety of healthy meals whilst juggling university commitments.

Student Chef Final Design
The final experience we have created is essentially a mobile cooking device which helps university students with cooking, particularly 1st year students which have moved away from home. The physical device connects to kitchen surfaces such as walls and cupboards and projects cooking tutorials onto the surface through the app on the user’s phone. When the device is bought it clearly says that the app needs to be downloaded for it to be used. The app has three different options on it, recipes, scanner and favorites. The recipes folder has either 0-15minute meals 15-30 minute meals or 30+ meals. The user selects a category and then picks a recipe from the list and plays the tutorial which connects to the physical device. The app registers what foods you have and gives you a suggested meal to cook based on what foods you already have and what you need. This is good for students as they often have food in but don’t know what to cook with it.

Design or to re-design a consumer toy and its packaging to minimise waste and envirnomental impact.
The product along with packaging must minimise waste rather than simply modify what exists already.
Create a new play experience, whilst keeping in mind that toys and toy packaging must attract children, parents and educators.

These toy parts made produced on Solidworks pop out of the board.
Extra pieces are pushed out to combine more than one shape
The slot system works perfect to stop the pieces moving when playing on the board.
The GA drawing provides added explanation on the parts to the board game along with the size

Important Considerations
Recycled materials must be associated with the packaging. This packaging can also be re-purposed to become part of the toy. The toy must promote re-use or efficient ways in which it can be recycled.

Cardboard parts are pushed out and shaped to fit in the games board
The ‘Pop & place Adventure consists of pre-cut net shapes along with various different characters depending on theme of the adventure. The net shapes provided pop out which then are made into 3D shapes such as a cylinder. The 3D shapes created are then used to make for instance a tree trunk. The 3D shapes slot into the board provided. This board is called the play board which provides a base point for all the shapes and characters provided. Along with that comes a dress up kit depending on the theme chosen. For example if the jungle Pop & place Adventure were to be purchased then a Tarzan outfit will also be provided with the game. This is just another way of enticing the user into feeling that they really are part of the game that they are playing.

Designing for longer Life
Brief
We live in a society where demand is bigger, better and more frequent. We are using 50% more resources than our planet can provide.
The key aim is to design a longer life product which primarily focuses on countering obsolescence.
I will be producing a prototype kettle usinf the following longer life approaches.
Design for ease of maintenance and adaptibility

Design for disassembly and reassembly
One cup Kettle
The glass container prevents you from pouring too much water, which saves you time and consumes less energy. If you boil a lot of water for many tea drinkers, the water stays warm longer thanks to the double glass Thermos.

Designing for longer LifeConcept Modelling
The development of the One cup Kettle has been a progression in finding the correct length and weight for balance.
The rod that run down into the tea mug must not tilt the base over. To prevent this from happening I have produced a weighted base which fits underneath the side base.
The parts are screw fit so they can easily be replaced when damaged. The weighted base fits tight in to the bottom of the side base and clips out when wanting to access the wires.

Final Design
The simple but easily assembled One Cup Kettle takes a step into the future.
The final product appeals to the hardworkers who need a quick fix of tea or coffee.
They no longer waste time filling up the kettle and waiting. Instead the correct amount of water is heated and then the contents of tea or coffee is brewed in the same mug.
Everyone has their own preference on what temperature they boil the water for perfected brews so the temperature regulator allows them to do so.
The parts can be replaced at low costs as parts are simple to manufacture in bulk production.

Testing creations produced by Nestle Trays used for the creation of my new concepts Variety of flavours and textures Process of melting chocolate to form diffrent shapes
This production of chocolates focused on the middle aged group especial-ly jennifer our segmented target market. The name given really expresses and reflects how the target market is emotionally. What I mean by this is that jennifer is a calm caring person full of heart.
The biscuit creation was developed for the el-derly who love the rough crunch texture and oaties biscuits fitted the market best.
Focusing on younger generation. The best filling ingredients for the young as a whole was popping candy. Reasons for this is that young children stated candy was their favourite. Adding the snap and crackle factor boosts the attraction
Snap & Crackle appeals to the younger age group.
Hearty appeals to the middle age group
Cheeky Biscuit appeals to the older age group
When put together these creations are seen to bring all generations of the family together. More time is spent connecting with one another which brings happiness and joy within a family.
Holidays bring the family together and these creations bring them even closer.

Concept Development
THe gifting packaging has been heavily focused around form and excitement.
THe process of opening the packaging like a present creates this excitement and happiness that the reciever enjoys.

Developed Idea
This split backaging has been taken on to be produced and tested. The form works well and the access of chocolates is different and attractive.
The steps now are to work on ways re-seal the packaging.
Balance is another issue which will be tested.

Gifting Packaging
The final concept has brought through the form of the developed idea. However, the split packaging was too hard to produce and re-seal.
Instead I have gone for the packaging to open from the side which then can be closed shut through tight fitting.
The bow on top provides the feeling of gifting and exitement. Once used the bow can be tied back up to close the packaging.
The see through side panels give the reciever a magical moment of getting a sneak peak of what they are getting.

Brief
This project consists of exploring the commercial home-ware market. A product must be developed which could be a small range or a singular product specifically for wood fabrication.
Mood boards are the first step of protocol in this project as it allows me then to be inspired by certain areas of markets.
The aesthetic direction I have opted for is traditional Minimalism. Products are simple but of excellent finish quality through various fabrication techniques.

Final Design
The luxury Cardholder has a maple wood body finished with a leather straping which enables the cardholder to open at both ends.
The leather strap holds the joints together at the ends to allow the lids to open and close
The product has been priced at £60 summed on todays market for high end cardholders. The price also ties in the fact that it has a reverse side for business cards storage.

New coffee Experience
Brief
Britain is fast becoming a nation of coffee drinkers. The rise of the big coffee chains followed by the independant coffee shop explosion continues to attract new consumers while methods of preparing great coffee at home become more accessible.
Roast and ground coffee typically using a cafetiere or filter is in market decline.
Taylors current consumers are aged 35+. The aim of this project is to broaden the market and attract the younger audience.
I have produced a new packaging format for ground coffee which appeals to the specified market in order to direct Taylors Coffee towards new consumers.

Consumer insights:
Consumers find the current bag difficult to open without scissors
No re-seal option available resulting in a peg being used
No way of measuring/dispensing out the correct weight of coffe
Spooning out the coffee can lead to spillages on the work surface
In some cases coffee becomes stale as the bag is open for long periods of time
My creation acts as a push dispensor similar to those in the casino which dispenses cards. The spring within the packaging keeps pressure on the remaining 10 gram pouches which simply slide out with the use of finger tips.

The younger market I am intending to attract along with the current older genrations will pounce on the idea that the option of a ‘quick fix’ of coffee is available.
The point of sale option is a one 10 gram rip packet which enables the consumer to perhaps brew a coffee at work on their break or quickly at home.
