Solution Playground – Demo Zone

Technology behind industry changing applications like: retail virtual experience,

Geospatial analytics & Big Data connecting Cars, rapid development for gaming and

drone applications – unveiled for the first time in ASEAN; exclusively @ the Solution

Playground Demo Zone

With hundreds of thousands of options available on its cars, Jaguar Land Rover was faced with a vexing

problem of providing their customers with a visual representation of what their particular selection of

components would look like.

Solution

To solve that problem, Jaguar Land Rover developed the Jaguar Land Rover Virtual Experience, a 3D

application deployed on a PC-based system that allows customers to examine and change components of a

3D rendering of a car, using motion-detection technology, currently in its pilot in the dealer showroom

A cloud platform for the world's ideas

Bluemix offers a single solution environment with the instant resources and infrastructure you need to

develop and deploy apps across multiple domains — FAST! Experience it by building an app in just 3mins at

the IBM Bluemix experience kiosks.

IoT Zone: Experience IBM's IoT capabilities with a sports theme

How does it work?

• A foosball is instrumented with sensors that

captures data while people are playing the game

• Data is captured using IBM platform – how many

games are played, how many goals are scored,

which player is winning, and the speed/rotation of

the players

• The results are shown instantly on an IPad

• We can set a threshold on the data, so when

participants cross the thresholds, they qualify for a

give-away. See live the ability to rapidly take data,

process it and turn it in to a business opportunity

• Industry example: imagine if a food/beverage

company could see that someone had run a certain

of miles and they could instantly push them a

coupon for a smoothie place nearby to replenish

their calories that were burnt. This instantaneous

use of data represents the infinite possibilities of

the internet of things capabilities

Created by Developers. Used by Developers

Visit the Parrot Drone Zone, and witness LIVE the rapid deployment of code that talks to a drone and

enables multiplayer interaction with the drone.

The key elements here are ease of deployment, low barrier to entry, and rapid development cycle. For the

Internet of Things, this is a powerful example of the potential created by communities of developers

working together and sharing.

IoT Zone: Talk to Drones through Tweets

• Whether a business is a start-up or is testing new ideas, companies with innovative solutions need to

remain competitive, innovative and above all agile.

• Globally recognized start-ups like Fitbit, Epic Playground, 99composers, Whatsapp and Krake have

grown on SoftLayer and we are proud to have been a part of their journey.

• Join us at the SoftLayer Start-up Lounge where 3 of our Singapore-based Start-ups showcase their

brilliant and game changing ideas.

SoftLayer Zone: Start-up Lounge

1. Load the Data

2. Connect the Network

3. Save the World

• The Server Challenge II is a race to reassemble a scaled-down version of a SoftLayer server rack.

Participants are tasked with repopulating the drive bays of two 2U Supermicro servers and plugging

18 network cables into network switches.

• The competition provides conference attendees with a fun opportunity to get hands-on with the

servers and network gear that fuel SoftLayer's global cloud infrastructure platform

Innovating through Watson, a computer that works and thinks a lot like we do

Cognitive systems is a new era of computing that uses natural language processing (NLP) and machine

learning. It enables a natural interaction between people and machines, which results in extending and

magnifying human expertise and cognition.

Watson represents a first step into cognitive systems. It uses programmatic computing plus the combination of three additional capabilities that make Watson truly unique: NLP, hypothesis generation and evaluation,

and dynamic learning. While none of these capabilities are unique to Watson, the combination allows us to

move beyond programmatic computing and unlock the world of global, unstructured data. With Watson technology, we can move from a keyword-based search that provides a list of locations to an intuitive,

conversational means of discovering a set of confidence-ranked responses.

But how is it relevant to a developer or to a startup? Visit the zone to learn how to leverage Watson APIs into

your app to take advantage of Watson's capabilities and how to use Watson services that have been made available on Bluemix from Oct 8.

Tech Sandbox

Hands on lab experiences and access free trials on the latest tools for accelerating

application development timelines @ Tech Sandbox workshops

IBM® RapidApps is an extension of Bluemix, IBM Cloud Platform. With RapidApps, business

developers can design applications for web browsers, tablets, or mobile devices through a graphical

user interface. You never have to work with any code or scripts to create a professional application.

In this workshop, we will create a small application to help you remember where you parked your car.

Because RapidApps builds mobile-friendly applications, it is well- suited to the task of taking a quick

note on your mobile phone while you are in the parking lot.

Build Mobile Apps using IBM® RapidApps

10:45 – 12:30 pm

Today’s applications are expected to manage a variety of structured and unstructured data, accessed

by massive networks of users, devices, and business locations, or even sensors, vehicles and Internet-

enabled goods. How do you ensure that the data that could be traversing public internet loads fast

enough on the mobile devices? How do you enable applications to scale and to remain available to

users wherever they are? Join us in this Tech Sandbox session, where we will use Cloudant, IBM's

database as a service (DBaaS) to address challenges with managing data in the cloud.

Manage Data in the era of Mobile and Internet of Things

10:45 – 12:30 pm

We will introduce how Softlayer is delivering on compute power when you need it, as you like it. Take

a peek into Softlayer’s Application Programming Interface (API) so that our customers can interact

with their account, products and services using direct API calls in a development environment as

opposed to using a point-and-click interface like our Customer Portal.

Our SME will take you through how to provision a bare metal server and how to create instances in

the cloud. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have around creating a cloud

environment.

We will also take you through Use Cases and Typical Components and Considerations for industries

such as eCommerce, Digital Advertising, Social Media, Mobile Apps, Gaming, among others.
