Dear Members, Jai Jinendra!
The arrival of spring brings joy, happiness, and warm weather which we all are looking forward to. We, from Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, wish you all a wonderful spring season.
Fundraising Dinner: Our 19th annual Fundraising Dinner program held at Suburban Collection Showplace on March 24th, 2012 was a grand success. We had the highest attendance ever along with the highest net and gross income. The food was fantastic and so was the entertainment. Kids had a blast in the child care area. We whole-heartedly thank all the guests, Fundraising Committee members and others for organizing and managing this program well. We are very happy to announce that a total of $162,417 was raised; the total expense was $29,264; resulting in $133,153 net income. We would like to thank all those who pledged donations and also those who provided the advertisement in the brochure. The list of pledges and brochure advertisements are included in this Jainvani. If you missed this program, you missed a lot. We hope to see you in the future Fundraising Dinner event.
Ayambil Oli: It was celebrated from March 29th thru April 6th followed by Parna on 7th. 58 people performed entire Oli. We hope all Tapasvis are in good Sata. Our sincere thanks to Bhartiben J. Shah, Shashibhai & Shitalben Shah and their team of volunteers for coordinating the Ayambil Oli.
Mahavir Janma Kalyanak: This program was celebrated on April 15th with a Snatra Puja performed by the JOY group followed by a Swamivatsalya lunch sponsored by Doshi and family on the occasion of their mother, Kakiba’s 108th birthday. We thank them and wish Kaikiba a Happy and Healthy life. We would like to thank Jinansh Shah, Jeet Sanghvi, JOY and everyone who assisted in setting up the hall for lunch and helping clean up after the lunch. We thank Bhartiben Doshi & her entire team for taking the lead on food preparation.
Journey into Raagas was a successful event. Thanks to Geeta Rghu and the team who has been voluntarily performing for 3rd consecutive year for a worthy cause. We appreciate your support to the MAI Family Services.
Thanks & Jai Jinendra! Anand Bora Rajiv Maheshwari President, Executive Committee Chairman, Board of Trustee

BOT Corner
Fundraising Dinner: JSGD successfully executed our 19th Annual Fundraising Dinner event on March 24th with Music as the theme. The BOT would like to thank all the donors and advertisers whose generous support resulted in a record amount of pledges of over $162,000. A complete list is included in this Jain Vani. We would also like to thank Rajiv & Mamata Maheshwari, co-chairs of the Fund Raising Committee, and all the volunteers for their hard work and dedication to put together this enjoyable evening. JAINA 2013 Convention: This time, the JAINA convention is in our town – yes, Detroit is hosting the upcoming 2013 JAINA Convention! Vastupalbhai Shah is leading the efforts for this convention. We would like to encourage every family to have at least one member be part of the JAINA team. Charitable Gift of Life Insurance: Life Insurance can be a convenient way to make a substantial gift to JSGD for a relatively modest annual cost. While there are many different types of life insurance, the principle of giving remains the same - a relatively small gift in the present will ultimately provide a much larger gift in the future. Plus your donations could be tax deductible. If you are interested in this program or need more details, please contact any EC or BOT member. If you are a society member in good standing for at least 3 years and are a Life Insurance agent, please send us your name and contact information so that we can provide it to the interested members. Temple Exterior Finishing: We are looking to improve our Temple building, both exterior and interior. A team under the guidance of Jayprakash Shah has been put in place to execute this project. Couple quotes for the building exterior finish have already been received and another one is expected shortly. We are hoping to complete this project sometime this year. Organizing Society Records: A project to centralize all of our society’s record has been put in place. Milap Shah has taken the Lead on this ongoing project. All the necessary documents will be stored in Fire proof cabinets and all the necessary soft copies will be scan and stored on the external servers securely. If you have any society documents in your possession, please pass it on to Milap Shah or any BOT member. Help Businesses Help Yourself: We have many businesses within our society who have been supporting our temple financially. A win-win situation for our society and member businesses will be the best scenario. It is a sincere request to all of you to give your business to our member businesses. Members Financial Statements: Please look through your recent statement from the Society. We request you to pay any outstanding balance in a timely manner. Please call Nikhil Kothari (BOT) or Vijay B Shah (EC) if you have any questions about your statement.
Pujas Pujas are planned throughout the year. They are conducted very well after practices and explanation of key messages of the puja. Following pujas will be conducted during this year in addition to list in the upcoming events:
Sunday 07-29-12 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Sattarbhedi Puja
Sunday 10-28-12 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Navpadji Puja
Sunday 12-09-12 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Antray Karma Nivaran Puja

Tapascharyas
Our society is fortunate to have so many tapacharyas!! One of the highlight is we had three Varsiptaps this year. They were Bhartiben H. Shah, Jyotiben R. Shah and Surbhiben P. Shah. And they continue to move on to their next one…… Surbhiben’s parna was celebrated with a very auspicious Shartunjay Mahapujan by Shri Nayanbhai Sanghavi from Surat. The festivity was appreciated by all who attended the event. We also had Vis-sthanak pujan for Peenalbhai and Niralben Shah for their Vis-sthanak Oli which was performed by visiting scholar Pujya Bhadrabhahuji. On behalf of the society we want to convey our Anumodana to all tapasvis. We apologize if we may have missed some tapasvis in the society.

Aymbil Oil We appreciate the dedication and enthusiasm of Bhartiben J. Shah and Shitalben S. Shah in taking the lead in preparing the Ayambil food. Without their leadership and organization we may not have such a long list of Aymbil Oli Tapasvis!!

2010-2012 EC Facility Update
1. EC signed up a Roof Maintenance Contract, which is Preventive Maintenance Program, for three years. This will allow the Contractor to annually inspect and clean up debris from Roof and Roof Drainage points for an agreed sum. They will come to repair roof leaks without additional charges within 24-48 hours. We have used their services twice since the contract has been signed. This alleviates unforeseen roof costs and at the same time will help JSGD extend the Useful life of the Roof, which sometimes does not last more than 15 years, leading to a significant Capital replacement cost.
2. City of Farmington Hills requested JSGD to submit an Egress plan for our Facility. This is required by
Law, for a Public Facility (which all Temples/Churches fall under), also mandated by Authorities having Jurisdiction (AHJ). This was put up at various locations in the temple after review and sign-off by the City Fire Inspector. This plan was developed by EC members without using consultants, whose charges were quoted at $1500.00.
3. The Fire Alarm and Fire Sprinkler system has been inspected annually twice as required by code and the monitoring of the Alarm Panel is continued to be contracted to Simplex Grinnell. The Kitchen Suppression system requires six monthly inspections per code and the process is being continually contracted with the company that installed the system in 1998. We also performed the five year Sprinkler inspection required by recent code revision for Public facilities.
4. Updated the Emergency contact list with the City of FH and Fire Alarm Monitoring services, as this list was from more than five years ago and most contact phone numbers were obsolete.
5. At a nominal cost a few safety and logistical updates done to the overall parking by adding a STOP sign and stripes at the juncture between the New Overflow lot and old Parking lot. Added a separation Bollard and chain structure for new lot closure when not in use.

On April 15th, JOY participated in Snatra Puja. JOY board, along with many other members, came to the temple early Sunday morning to do Snatra Puja.
There was also a slideshow presentation that was part of a meeting, and JOY was presented in the meeting. Alisha Vora, president of JOY, spoke on behalf of JOY and discusses past events, JOY board, our advisor and upcoming events·
Before we could participate in Snatra Puja, we had to practice! JOY board held a Snatra Puja practice on the Friday before the puja to familiarize and practice with those who needed to refresh themselves with the puja. It was a great way to see our JOY friends and also do something religious that bonds us together.·
JOY is planning on having a lock in with Gujarati Samaj Youth (GSY) on April 27th/28th. Plans are in the process of being finalized, but it will cost $5 to get in and all money will be compiled with GSY profits from Holi program to be given to the American Heart Association as charity. * If you want to join JOY, please contact any of the board members! We are always happy to have new members join and be part of the JOY family!*
May 19th JOY board is planning on doing community service at World Medical Relief in Detroit. WMR is a fund that helps send medical supplies to developing country, and JOY goes to help package these supplies and help to have them be sent off to those who need it.·

Editorial Reviews “An invaluable reference for anyone who still doesn’t believe that the Standard American Diet (SAD) is in fact the cause for a majority of our personal, global and moral devastation. Highly recommended.”
—This Dish is Veg “A great resource for folks toying with the idea of transitioning to vegetarianism.”
—Carolyn Scott-Hamilton, in Veg News Forks Over Knives - Book Description What if one simple change could save you from heart disease, diabetes, and cancer? For decades, that question has fascinated a small circle of impassioned doctors and researchers—and now, their life-changing research is making headlines in the hit documentary Forks Over Knives. Their answer? Eat whole-foods, plant-based diet—it could save your life. It may overturn most of the diet advice you’ve heard—but the experts behind Forks Over Knives aren't afraid to make waves. In his book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn explained that eating meat, dairy (milk, cheese, icecream, Indian sweets etc..), and oils (such as fried foods) injures the lining of our blood vessels, causing heart disease, heart attack, or stroke. In "The China Study" National Bestseller Book, Dr. Colin Campbell revealed how cancer and other diseases skyrocket when eating meat and dairy product is the norm - and plummet when a traditional plant-based diet persists. And more and more experts are adding their voices to the cause: There is nothing else you can do for your health that can match the benefits of a plant-based diet. Now, as Forks Over Knives is introducing more people than ever before to the plant-based way to health, this accessible guide provides the information you need to adopt. About the Author Editor Gene Stone is the author of the international bestseller The Secrets of People Who Never Get Sick and the coauthor, with Rip Esselstyn, of The Engine 2 Diet. Stone, who has written or ghostwritten more than thirty books and numerous magazine articles, lives in New York and follows a plant-based diet.
