When Did It Begin….

• Hip-Hop Music started in the busy streets of New York City during the 1970’s

• Hip-Hop began with the help from a man named Kool DJ Herc

• Hip-Hop music migrated from Kingston, Jamaica , to the United States, then stopped in West Bronx of New York .

What Does It Consist of ….• It can consist of a lot of a lot of things.

• But there a 4 main elements. They are – rap, graffiti, break dancing, and a disc jockey or (DJ).

• It also consist of rhythm, beat, Rhyme (sometimes), vocal assist,4/4 drum beat and sometimes looped music segments .

The Rules To Hip Hop …..

• Many people think there are rules to Hip Hop, but it’s really not.

• The main thing to Hip-Hop is to express you without a limit.

• Then you have another thing you should remember is to be free, original, and to rhyme to the beat of the music .

• The things that most rappers rap about are the problems they have went through in their life or the things they have seen growing up.

• One of the famous saying a DJ would yell at a party to get it “Jumping or Cracking” was: “throw your hands in the air, and wave em’ like you don’t care!” That would always get a party started.

Famous Rappers Back In The Day….

• The first group or artist was Kool DJ Herc. and the Herculoids, which included- Kool DJ Herc. and his two friends- Coke La Rock, and Clark Kent.

• Another group was Run DMC. The group included Run (Joe Simmons) ; DMC ( Darryl McDaniels) ; DJ James Master Jay ( James Mizell).

My 21st Century Rapper Is…..

• Lil’ Wayne was born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. ; September 27 , 1982 , in New Orleans.

• At the age of 9, he joined a label called, Cash Money Records. He was the youngest to ever join a label.

• Lil’ Wayne is one of the world’s most talented rappers. He’s been making music ever since a child

• He grew up in one of New Orleans poorest neighborhoods, Hollygrove.

• Wayne was discovered at the age 8 by the brothers Bryan and Slim Williams, the founders of Cash Money Records. He was given a business card by the brothers, he keep on calling them until they finally took him under their wings.

• Lil’ Wayne was also a part of the group called the Hot Boys, who consisted of- B.G., Juvenile, Turk, and Lil’ Wayne.

Some Of His Famous Albums/Songs…

• Their album “Get It How U Live”, which sold more than 400,000 copies in 1999.

• When Wayne turned 16, he was more than half way to music stardom. During 1999, his big hit “The Block Is Hot” made him reach the top of the Hip-Hop Charts.

• Some of his albums were- “Lights Out” (2000), “500 Degreez” (2002), and the mix tape “Tha Drought” (2003). In 2004, he released “Tha Carter”; his greatest hit from this album was “Go DJ”.

• That song did so good that it was on the Rap, Hip-Hop, and the Pop Charts. To get more success he made “Tha Carter Vol.2” in December 2004. This album hit number 2 on the Billboard Pop Charts.

• In 2006, he teamed up with Bryan “Birdman” Williams and made the album “Like Father, Like Son”, they had a hit called “Stuntin’ like My Daddy”. His Grammy winning albums are – “The Leak” (2007), and “Tha Carter III” (2008).
