If ever a group has earned a sleep-in or two, it is us! Among the excitement of the impending holidays, I must share the sad news that Ms Gila Adams, our Relieving Principal, has made the decision to relinquish her current role. In her letter below she explains her situation: “It is with a heavy heart that I write to you as I have had to make the decision to step down as the Relieving Principal at Jamberoo Public School. It is a decision that I have not taken lightly. I met with my doctors yesterday and they both advised that whilst I am still unwell, I need to rest. Unfortunately, I do not know how long this illness will last and it is for that reason (as well as my health), that it is right for me to step down. After listening to the staff and community, the school needs a principal who is capable of effective leadership, stability, presence and commitment. As their principal I know I would have given my all to this beautiful school had I been well enough to do so. Jamberoo is an amazing school with outstanding teachers, students and parents, they deserve a leader who is able to give their whole heart and soul to each member. I sincerely thank you for giving me this opportunity and for believing in me. I am truly sorry if I have let you down.” A SMALL SCHOOL MAKING A BIG DIFFERENCE Learning to be Sustainable

As such, Mr Sutherland, our Regional Director, has commenced the process of recruiting a permanent principal to our school. We have nominated a staff representative, the P&C have nominated a parent representative and Mr Sutherland will recruit a principal join him to form the panel that will conduct the interviews. The team will meet in the holidays to write the advertisement to ensure we appoint the person that is the best fit for our school. We wish these four people all the best in this important decision-making journey, and will watch this space eagerly to see whom we will welcome into the role. Until this time, Mrs Martin has agreed to continue as full-time teacher of the Wurrata class, providing much appreciated continuity and enthusiasm in the role.

Please stay safe, warm and rest up. Take the needed time to reenergise, ready for your return on Tuesday 5th of July so you can take up the challenges and wealth of experiences that Term 3 will hold in store for us here at Jamberoo. Sharon Behl-Shanks (Relieving Principal)

SPORTING SNIPPETS Athletics Carnival Well done to Mrs Kunkler who has so competently organised our school Athletics Carnival, which will be held this Friday 31st July. There is an awful lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into coordinating this carnival, and we thank Mrs Kunkler for the time and energy she has committed into ensuring our day is successful.

If any parent or family member is able to assist on the day, please do step forward tomorrow. A day like this can not work without the generous help of our wonderful Jamberoo school community.

Term 3 Sport We will be allocating the sports choices note on the first day back next term. We are waiting to hear back regarding a sports grant, that we hope we can use to offer some professional assistance during our Yr 3-6 sports afternoons.

Debating Gala Day I am so very proud of our two fabulous debating teams who competed at the Premiers Debating Challenge on Monday. All students involved did an amazing job, fighting nerves and challenging topics to do battle with four teams from Tullimbar PS and Mt Terry. Our development squad and Nuninoona class members did a very professional job of chairing, time-keeping and generally ensuring the day ran smoothly. Thanks very much Eliza, Monika, Lillian, Lachlan, Charli and Kiara.

The Jamberoo Orators, consisting of Emily, Hannah, Matthew and Amarli, won 2 or their 3 debates on the day. This was a great effort from this team of Year 5 students, all new to debating this year. A special thank you to Amarli who was asked to step into the role at the eleventh hour.

I am pleased to announce that the Jamberoo Windbags, comprised of Grace, Eric, Holly and Ruben won all three of their debates on Monday, which, when added to their earlier win in the term, makes them the undefeated champions of our zone! We look forward to watching their progress as they now enter the Illawarra champions debating day.

Debating will resume at 8am on Tuesday 12th July, which is in week 2 of Term 3.

After School Recorder Group – Term 3 Dear Jamberoo families of students in Year 2 to Year 6; I am offering an after-school recorder group for interested students for 8 weeks in Term 3. If your child is interested in learning an instrument and developing his/her note reading skills, and has time on Thursdays after school, then this might be the group for them! The recorder group will run on Thursday afternoons from 3:00pm till 3:45pm. This will include a short break at 3:00pm for students to have a snack and go to the toilet. Students will need to provide a decent-quality recorder (about $12 to $15 at music shops) and a display book for their music, and they will need to commit to attending for the eight weeks and having appropriate behaviour. There is no cost for this after school group. Please see me if your child would like a permission note. Mrs McCormack

P&C Blurb Another term draws to a close, school reports have come home and school holidays are around the corner. My daughter is in Year 6. As I look back over her school photos and reflect on her primary school experience, I notice her year has always been in a composite class (it is a very small year). They have either joined with our current Year five or the previous Year’s six which has certainly enriched her learning and the teaching of valuable life skills of being adaptable and working across stages. I love the fact that every teacher in our school knows my daughter and has been involved in her education. I always look forward to the school report as the amount of detail reflects my daughter strengths and areas that need work. The teachers' comments capture the essence of my child and always bring a smile to my face (often a chuckle). I feel grateful for the time spent on the student reports and might I suggest if you see your child's teacher in the playground, take a minute to thank them also. Read on for a summary of P&C news;

• Election Day BBQ at the Pavilion, we are still needing volunteers to ensure the success of this fundraiser. We always have a laugh and its a terrific way of meeting other parents. Roster is at the end of this newsletter. Please note, this is a whole school fundraiser.

• Tania McInnes and Megan Buckley are organising the Wurrata Fundraiser for Term 3, and we are in for a treat of pancakes and smoothies. What makes this fundraiser special is all ingredients are sourced locally with special guests coming in to share with the children their passion for farming.

• Megan would like a few more Year 5 parents to volunteer to help with the Yr. 6 Farewell. The committee has not met yet, but she would like to get going next term with the idea that the tasks/rosters can be spread around. Thank you to Lucy, Jeddah, Gail, Ruth and Reannon who have volunteered so far.

Our next meeting will be in Term 3, on Wednesday 3rd of August at 7.00pm in the school staff room. Please email questions and agenda items to [email protected]. Bring your enthusiasm and ideas, and support a school that keeps improving and keeps education fun.

Warm Regards

Susan Mills
