James 2:14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a

brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things

needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it

does not have works, is dead.

John 6:29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you

believe in him whom he has sent.”

REFLECTION 12: Faith works


Matthew 12:33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit.”


James 3:11 Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? 12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a

grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.


Matthew 5:40 And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41 And if

anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would

James 2:18 But someone will say, “You

have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from

your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.19 You believe

that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!


Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to

me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father

who is in heaven.”

works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that

faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; 23 and the Scripture was

fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

James 2:25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she

received the messengers and sent them out by another way?


Joshua 2:9b “I know that the LORD has given you the land, and that the

fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land

melt away before you. 10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up

the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, … 11 And as soon as we heard it,

our hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of you, for the LORD your God, he is God in the heavens above and

on the earth beneath.”


Hebrews 11:31 By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient,

because she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.


James 2:26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith

apart from works is dead.
