Dear Jane Ryan Families,
Spring has arrived! In spring we spend time on the weekends outdoors with our families at sports events, as well as playing or relaxing in the backyard. The fresh air and exercise are good for the body and mind. After a weekend of activity, weekday mornings can be difficult. It isn’t always easy to get up early in the morning, but it is important to be on time to start the school day off right. Being on time allows your child to be-gin his/her day with a morning routine in the classroom that includes unpacking, lunch count, attendance, seeing friends and starting morning work. It is equally important to be sure your child has a nutritious breakfast. According to Healthy Children.org, a healthy breakfast has been associated with a better memory and test scores. Children also need a good night’s sleep. School age children need 9-10 hours of sleep each night to perform their best academically.
During the month of May, all children in grades 3-5 will be taking part in the SBAC assessments for English language arts/literacy and math. Grade 5 will also take the science portion of the assessment. We are asking each child to do their best but often children worry about taking this assessment. Please reassure your child that his/her best effort is what is expected. Children in grades K-2 will be aware of the importance of the assessment because they will be walking through the halls quietly as to not disturb the classrooms taking the online assessment.
The month of May also hosts many fun Jane Ryan activities such as the plant sale and Kids Marathon. Check out the online calendar at http://janeryanelementary.com/ for all upcoming events.
Sincerely, Mrs. Cunningham

The Jane Ryan School Store is open for business twice monthly from September-June. It sells school supplies and fun novelty items with prices ranging from $.10 for cap erasers to $3.50 for Jane Ryan magnets. Your children can “shop” for these items during their lunchtime. And, since cupcakes and treats are no longer allowed in the classroom, many families have chosen to celebrate school birthdays and special occasions with Store Bucks. Bucks are available for pre-purchase in $.50 and $1.00 increments and may be purchased for grades 1-5 through June 2019.
Fill out the order form below and send it into school with your child in an envelope labeled Mrs. Sloan, Store Bucks. Checks should be made out to Jane Ryan PTA. We will send your Store Bucks home with your child. Any questions, please contact Jenn Chiodo at [email protected].
