Jan Hess is President of the Engineered Systems Segment of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated comprised of Teledyne Brown Engineering, Teledyne Energy Systems, Teledyne Turbine Engines and Teledyne CML. As President of Engineered Systems, Hess has full responsibility for growth, profitability, and long-range strategic positioning of the segment and its 1,200 employees. Serving aerospace, defense, maritime, and energy markets, Engineered Systems develops and delivers a diverse array of technology-driven solutions, systems, products and services for complex and harsh environments. The segment’s portfolio includes small turbine engines for cruise missiles; radioisotope thermal electric generators for deep space, subsea and terrestrial applications; fuel cells; specialized batteries; manned and unmanned marine vehicles; hardware-in-the-loop test capabilities; engineering services; modeling and simulation; composites for aircraft; nuclear and chemical processing systems; embedded software; and advanced manufacturing. Ms. Hess joined Teledyne Brown Engineering in 2000, serving as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. She was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Engineered Systems Segment and Teledyne Brown Engineering in 2007. Her role expanded when Teledyne Scientific and Imaging was added to her responsibilities, performing both domestic and international operational and administrative duties. Ms. Hess brings over three decades of operational, financial and management experience to leverage Teledyne’s reputation for performance excellence and grow the companies’ traditional and emerging markets. She has created a solutions-based company culture, fostering continuous improvement, yielding enhanced efficiencies for Teledyne and its customers. Ms. Hess has been honored by various organizations for her leadership in business and the community, advocating for children with learning challenges, and serving as a community volunteer. She was selected as an inaugural recipient of the 2018 Yellowhammer Women of Impact award, a recognition bestowed upon 20 women whose powerful contributions advance and shape the state of Alabama. As a public speaker addressing groups and organizations on topics of corporate finance practices and successful business strategies, Hess is committed to supporting and strengthening our business community. She sits on numerous boards including the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County Board, Auburn University Huntsville Research Center Advisory Board and the Huntsville Mayor’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Advisory Council. She is also a President’s Corporate and Foundation Partner of the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Born in Huntsville, Alabama, Hess earned her Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Auburn University. She holds a Certificate in Management from Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Virginia, and is a Certified Public Accountant in Alabama (inactive). She also has a professional designation in Advanced Government Contracting.
