Our Challenge

Dear friends,

God’s standards have always been the same. God is pleased with those who bring forth justice among the nations. God applauds all those who cure the blindness of ignorance and prejudice, all those who break the chains of poverty and illness. The highest accolade that Apostle Peter bestowed on Jesus Christ was that “he went about doing good.” Jesus’ life of good works was the sign and seal of his unique relationship to God. No one could do these good works apart from the spirit and power of God. God placed the divine stamp of approval on Jesus at his baptism by John the Baptist: “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well-pleased.” God not only acclaimed Jesus as the Messiah. He also acknowledged that his kind of life is the kind of life that enjoys divine favor. Little children want few things more than to please their parents. A warm hug or a pat on the back is a wonderful reward for being good and doing good. Why, then, are we not more concerned about living the kind of life that pleases God? Life holds no greater joy or higher reward than the sense that our lives are pleasing to God. There are some things of which we can be sure in life. We know that sacrificial love is the only kind of love that is pleasing to God. Our own sense of self-worth is dependent on the approval of others. We need the approval of our family and friends to feel good about ourselves. Ultimately, however, our sense of self-worth depends on the approval of God.

Our lives only count for something if we live the kind of life that is pleasing to God.

Have a good week!

Love and prayers, Father Randy

ADULT FAITH FORMATION SPEAKER SERIES, YEAR 2

EXPERIENCING GOD IN LITURGICAL LIFE

Paul Zucarelli Author of Faith Understood:

An Ordinary Man’s Journey to the Presence of God

https://faithunderstood.org/

An Evening of Witness and Praise Sunday, January 26

A light meal will be served in the Parish Hall immediately after the 5:30PM Mass with the presentation beginning at 7:00PM in the Church. Paul will share his extraordinary story: one man’s near-death experience and how it transformed his life. But this is even more than an incredible account of a successful businessman’s miraculous recovery. Paul tells a story of hope—a credible testimony of how God is present and active in our lives: claiming us in Baptism, nourishing us in the Eucharist, instructing us in Scripture, and guiding us in prayer. Paul’s talk will inspire you; his witness can change your life if you let it!

Baby Bottle Campaign 2020

The Dignity of Life Committee of St. Aloysius and the Knights of Columbus are asking for your generous support again and want to thank you for your generosity in 2019. Almost $12,000 was

collected and was split between our two local crisis pregnancy centers; the Pregnancy Problem Center and the Woman’s New Life Clinic.

How it Works

Baby Bottle pickup will be at all masses the weekend of January 18th and 19th. Baby Bottle return with your donation will be next week January 25 and 26. Please return the bottle as it is a donation too. Checks should be made out to St. Aloysius and note Baby Bottle in the memo. Contact Ross McCalip at [email protected] with questions. We want this Baby Bottle Campaign to be the best yet! Please help us to offset their expenses with your donation. Thank you so much for your generosity and know your donation will help save lives.

STEWARDSHIP OF OFFERING

“Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus” Colossians 3:17

Giving is planned and planning is a part of everything we do. This is certainly true of our financial decision and plans. Before we spend, before we invest, we consider our options. We give to address others’ needs and we save to help meet our own. In short, we make purposeful decisions.

In everything we do, we honor God through Jesus Christ: in our devotional lives and in our commitments to the ministries of the church. And in the ways we choose to invest our resources in the people and ministries of our parish. We plan our giving, knowing our actions follow that purposeful intent.

Over the next few weeks as you make or continue your New Year’s resolutions, we ask you to prayerfully reflect upon your Stewardship of Offering for the upcoming year. Please consider: What life or blessings has God given you? How do your financial commitments best honor the Lord Jesus? On the weekend of February 7 and 8, each parishioner will be invited to renew or increase support of the parish through our 2020 Stewardship of Offering promotion.

Stephen Mathews and Michael Acaldo Stewardship of Offering Co-Chairs

Did you know? 63% of Registered Parishioner Families give to the Offertory; If 82 additionalindividuals/families contributed to the Offertory, the parish would be supported by two-thirds of all families.

Numbers based on identified givers. For detailed collections, spending, parish savings, etc. please see the Annual Stewardship Report in the February Aloysius Alive.
