    Three years ago,

    Lafayette Christian

    School on Hamilton

    Rd. purchased 53acres adjacent to

    campus with the

    vision of developing

    an Athletic Complex.

    As the school has

    grown, so has the

    need for this addi-

    tion. Fourteen sportsteams schedule prac-

    tices and competi-

    tions using one field

    and a gymnasium on

    campus! Once com-

    pleted, the Athletic

    Complex will

    include fields for

    eleven-man football,

    soccer, baseball,

    softball and tennis

    courts.

    Because of theimpact Lafayette

    Christian School is

    making on our com-

    munity, Callaway

    Foundation has

    approved a $600,000

    matching grant

    towards this project.

This means that, with support of fam-

    ilies, friends, and

    community, con-

    struction will begin

    this Spring!

    Scheduled to be

    completed by Fall

    2016, the first phase

    includes the

    soccer/football field,

    track, field house

    (containing conces-

    sions, restrooms,locker rooms, as well

    as athletic offices

    and equipment stor-

    age), parking and

    site preparations for

    tennis, softball and

    baseball.

    The AthleticProgram is instru-

    mental in helping

    Lafayette Christian

    School accomplish

    its mission of edu-

    cating and inspiring

    this generation to

    impact the culture

    and future" as con-

    firmed by a recent

    correspondence froma parent: "I wanted

to drop you a note of

    encouragement let-

    ting you know how

    much LCS and its

    football team... have

    meant to my sons. I

    wanted to particular-

    ly mention thecoaching staff, the

    character of which

    speaks volumes of

    the school.

    They are not only...

    building a quality

    football program, but

    doing it with

    honor...and focus on

The Lord... LCS asa school is a credit to

    the community, and

    your ministry makes

    a difference in so

    many families'

    lives."

Joshua 4:21 And he spake unto

    the children of Israel, saying,

    When your children shall ask

their fathers in time to come,

    saying, What mean these

    stones?

    We Christians need to be

    ready to answer any questions

our children ask us. We need

to be ready to witness for our

    LORD anytime, to anybody.

There will come a time when

    we will be questioned; why

we go to church, what do that

cross mean, and, tell me the

    story of Jesus.

    Could you answer those three

    simple questions friends?

The LORD , in this verse,

    was telling Joshua that folks

    need a reminder. We need

    something to remind us of

who we are and where we

    came from. Like wise, we

should remember what wewere and where our LORD

    has brought us from. God

told Joshua to pile up twelve

    stones to remember the

    twelve tribes of Israel cross-

ing the Jordan river on dry

    land.

    We need something to remind

us of what God has done for

us. Many churches give out a

    certificate to newly baptized

    converts. Trophies are given

    when a certain level of

growth or goal or study hasbeen reached.

    Those are reminders of what

    a person has accomplished.

I wear a small silver cross on

a necklace to remind me of

three things; first, Jesus is in

my heart, second, to bear (or

carry) my cross and live for

    Jesus every day, finally, it

reminds me that Jesus died on

a cross, was buried and arose

    leaving that cross empty.

Do you have anything toremind you of the work Jesus

    has done in you?

    God Bless,

    Walter D. Hill D. Min.

The burly miner blinked as he

left the dark interior of the coal

mine. Stopping at a faucet near

    the mine entrance, he washed

the worst of the grime from his

face and hands, then headedtowards his home on the out-

skirts of the village. As he

trudged along the dusty lane, he

passed the open door of a little

    church. Inside, a small crowd

    listened intently as an energetic

    man gesticulated from the pul-

    pit. Interested, the miner

    stepped to the door.

    "Absolute surrender is what we

    must have," the minister was

saying. "Are you willing to sur-render yourself absolutely into

His hand? If not, you are not

ready to meet your God." The

    minister paced back and forth

on the platform. "We do not

    know how much longer our

    earthly probation will last.

    Tonight you are living; tomor-

row may be too late. Ask your-

self, I beg of you, 'Am I ready

    to meet the Lord?'"

    The miner, touched to the

    quick, slipped into the back

pew. I am not ready to meet

God, he thought. I have lived a

    careless, godless life. How can

I make peace with Him? The

meeting ended, and the peoplefiled out. Still the miner

remained in the pew, his head

    in his hands.

    Finally, the minister touched

    him on the shoulder. "Brother,

are you ready to meet the

    Lord?"

    Blindly, the miner shook his

head. "I know I am not. Oh,

    help me find peace!"

An hour passed as the minister

shared the plan of salvation; yet

    something held the miner back

    from full surrender.

    "It's getting late," the minister

    finally said. "Go home, and

    continue to seek the Lord."

    The miner shook his head."Stay

with me a little longer; it must

    be settled tonight."

    Once again the minister

    explained the way of salvation

    and prayed, but in vain.

    Another hour passed.

"You must go home," the min-

ister told him. "It's late, and I

    cannot make it any clearer."

"It must be settled tonight," the

    miner repeated,his eyes burning

    with earnestness.

    "Then we shall stay here

    together," the minister agreed.

Once more he spoke of Jesus,

    and shared promise after prom-

ise. Once more he prayed, but

in vain. "I must go," the minis-

ter finally said. "It will soon be

    morning. Go home, and return

tomorrow night. Maybe thenyou will find peace."

"Sir, I cannot leave this place

    until I find peace."

    The poor man's voice trembled.

"Tomorrow may be too late. It

    must be settled tonight."

    The minister could not resist

his appeal. "By the help of

God." he said, "it shall be set-

    tled tonight."

Again he explained the steps of

    conversion; again he prayed. As

he spoke, the miner broke into

sobs and tears, and at last the

    light pierced his darkness.

"I see it!" he cried. "I give

    myself absolutely to God, to

His will, to do only what He

    wants. It is settled.

Praise His name, it is settled!"

The two men knelt again, butthis time to thank God for

bringing light to a sinner's soul.

    The next morning the miner

went to work as usual. During

the day he was sent to a distant

part of the mine to fetch some

tools. When he did not return,

his fellow workers went to look

for him. They found that the

mine walls had caved in on

him, and he was buried in the

debris. Working with pick andshovel, they began to dig.

    Finally, from the fragments of

    rock and rubbish and stone

which hid him from sight, came

    a faint sound: "Tonight ----

would have been ---- too late.

Thank God ---- it was settled --

    -- last night!"

    Possession

That which we had we still

    possess,

    Though leaves may drop and

    stars may fall;

    No circumstance can make itless

Or take it from us, all in all.

That which is lost we did not

    own;

We only held it for a day--

    A leaf by careless breezes

    blown:

No fate could take our own

    away.

I hold it as a changeless law

From which no soul can ever

    sway or swerve,

We have that in us which

    will draw

    Whate'er we need or most

    deserve.

Even as the magnet to the

    steel

Our souls are to the best

    desires;

    The Fates have hearts and

they can feel--They know what each true

    heart requires.

We think we lose when most

    we gain;

    We call joys ended ere

    begun;

When stars fade out do skies

    complain,

Or glory in the rising sun?

No fate could rob us of our

    own--

    No circumstance can make it

    less;

What time removes was but a

    loan,

For what was ours we still

    possess.

    17/20

A little girl had been shop-

ping with her Mom in Target.

She must have been 6 years

    old, this beautiful red haired,

    freckle faced image of inno-

cence. It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes

over the top of rain gutters,

so much in a hurry to hit the

earth it has no time to flow

down the spout. We all stood

    there under the awning and

just inside the door of the

    Target.

    We waited, some patiently,

    others irritated because nature

messed up their hurried day. I

    am always mesmerized by

rainfall. I got lost in the

sound and sight of the heav-

    ens washing away the dirt

    and dust of the world.

    Memories of running, splash-

ing so carefree as a child

came pouring in as a wel-

    come reprieve from the wor-

    ries of my day.

The little voice was so sweet

as it broke the hypnotictrance we were all caught in,

    "Mom, let's run through the

    rain," she said. "What?" Mom

    asked.

    "Let's run through the rain!"

    She repeated.

"No, honey. We'll wait until it

    slows down a bit," Mom

    replied.

    This young child waited

    about another minute and

    repeated, "Mom, let's run

    through the rain."

"We'll get soaked if we do,"

    Mom said.

    "No, we won't, Mom. That's

not what you said this morn-

ing," the young girl said as

she tugged at her Mom's arm.

    "This morning? When did I

say we could run through the

    rain and not get wet?"

    " Don't you remember? When

    you were talking to Daddy

about his cancer, you said, 'If

God can get us through this,

he can get us through any-

    thing!'"

    The entire crowd stopped

    dead silent. I swear you

    couldn't hear anything but the

rain. We all stood silently. No

one came or left in the next

    few minutes. Mom paused

    and thought for a moment

    about what she would say.

Now some would laugh it off

and scold her for being silly.

Some might even ignore whatwas said. But this was a

    moment of affirmation in a

    young child's life. A time

    when innocent trust can be

nurtured so that it will bloom

    into faith.

    "Honey, you are absolutely

    right. Let's run through the

rain. If God let's us get wet,

    well maybe we just needed

    washing," Mom said.

Then off they ran. We all

    stood watching, smiling and

    laughing as they darted past

the cars and yes, through the

    puddles. They held their

    shopping bags over their

heads just in case. They got

    soaked. But they were fol-

    lowed by a few who

    screamed and laughed like

children all the way to their

    cars.

And yes, I did. I ran. I got

    wet. I needed washing.

    Circumstances or people can

    take away your material pos-

    sessions, they can take away

    your money, and they can

take away your health. But no

one can ever take away your

precious memories... So, don'tforget to make time and take

    opportunities to make memo-

    ries everyday. To everything

there is a season and a time to

    every purpose under heaven.

    I HOPE YOU STILL TAKE

    THE TIME TO RUN

    THROUGH THE RAIN.

Heres What Our Advertisers Have To Say...As a new business owner in LaGrange, I believe one of my better decisions was the one I made to meet with Bill Lowe and allow him to design an ad to put in the

Banner about my business, Curves of LaGrange. Apparently, a lot of women read the Banner because the phone calls started coming in from women who said they saw

our ad in the Banner. Since that started we have been voted the number # 1 Weight Loss Center in LaGrange. Our membership has grown so much that the Corporate

Office of Curves International sent us an e-mail stating that in the states of Georgia, South Carolinia and Tenn. we were in the third place for membership growth in

2014. Thank you to Bill and his staff at the Banner.

    - Nancy Sue Laminack, Curves Of LaGrange

The Banner really helps me out. It is the place where people look for deals. They often bring a copy of the Banner with them when they shop. It has been around for a

long time (since 1999), and has proven to be well worth the money to advertise.

    - John Parker, Badcock & More Home Furnishings

Since we've been advertising in the Troup County Banner, our business has more than doubled! Having an advertisement in a locally-produced publication that reaches

more homes than any other has been great for our business!

    - Chris Hagebak, 809 Gallery Of Art

I have been advertising with the Banner for over 10 years, not once have I been pressured. I always recommend the Banner as I have seen many results over the years.

Its always nice to hear I saw your ad in the Banner". Local, nice and honest people!
