The design features a simplistic, clean look that is so dominant in this trend.”

Thanks to Calvin Landscape, the outside of the home is just as beautiful, spacious and inviting.

“Gorgeous flowers with trees galore will frame the Centerpiece Home,” Jim Calvin said. “Then in the backyard, Home Show visitors will find a one-of-a-kind space with an outdoor kitchen and an extra-special water feature. It will be an amazing refuge fit for relaxation and surrounded by the beauty of nature.”

The backyard boasts a bevy of water features, including a luxurious hot tub with a waterfall cascading into it as well as a pool surrounded by fire bowls overflowing with

water. Behind the pool is an outdoor kitchen covered by a cedar pergola. While these features will fill attendees with inspiration for summer parties, the fire pit will warm them up this winter.

Want to learn about how to design an upscale look on a budget? Local designers Liz Henderson, Jessica Madison and Jenny Hollander are taking a blank 20x30-foot space and turning it into a designer’s dream — at an affordable price! These designers offer a vignette of designer-inspired looks throughout the home, complete with landscaping.

Plus, during their stage presentations, the trio of designers will play a fun game based on “The Price is Right,” showing Home Show attendees how to achieve high style for less with a few tricks of the trade.

Right in the middle of West Pavilion, Vive Exterior Design shows off all the hottest trends in outdoor backyard design, from greens to water features, in The Ultimate Backyard! It’s complete with a composite deck overlooking a pool, paver patio with a sunken seating area (great for entertaining guests), a pergola and fireplace. And don’t forget a state-of-the-art television and premium sound system throughout. Finish everything off with all-natural boulders and plantings, and there you have it.

Leading visitors from West Pavilion to the South Pavilion is the Walkway Garden, designed and constructed by BGW Construction. Including a covered porch, complete bar area and firepit with swinging seats, this concept is perfect for anyone who is looking to create a dream outdoor entertaining space.

The South Pavilion is home to Marketplace in South, a collaboration between The Artisan Markets Indianapolis and Tia Gross of Seek and Find Furniture and Home Décor. Marketplace in South is the place where Home Show attendees can find everything from affordable furniture to unique knick knacks you won’t see anywhere else. The Artisan Markets also show creative ways to take your next step in home décor during their stage presentations at the Home Show.

This year’s Centerpiece Home will ultimately be a warm, comforting, eye-catching place for attendees to visit this winter.

“Soothing hues, including muted greens, soft whites, bold blacks and warm neutrals will be paired with multiple textures both inside and out,” Rouse said. “This interesting combination will give the home a relaxed and sophisticated boho feel.”

Join us for Trade Day on Tuesday, January 21, presented by Build Your Future Indiana! As part of a partnership with Mike Rowe and the mikeroweWORKS Foundation, the Indianapolis Home Show offers Trade Day, allowing those in the skilled trade industries to get in free. Prospective workers also have the chance to learn more about careers in the skilled trades from local vocational schools.

“We are committed to spreading the word about the availability and demand for workers in the construction and building industries as well as the volume of rewarding career pathways available to young Hoosiers,” said Indiana Construction Roundtable Foundation Executive Director Nate Klinck.

Build Your Future Indiana is a unique collaboration of employers, state agencies and industry associations whose goal is to encourage Indiana residents to learn about construction craft careers and training opportunities emerging in the state, and to qualify for and get jobs in these high-demand occupations.

“The Home Show is a great opportunity for Build Your Future Indiana to connect with individuals who are interested in construction and building primarily as

consumers but who often serve as ‘influencers’ in the lives of young people considering their career options,” Klinck said. “It’s a great venue to spread the word about the work we are doing and share information on rewarding career pathways for young people.”

According to Klinck, there are projected to be nearly 150,000 new job openings in the construction and building industries in Indiana by 2026. Therefore, more individuals will be needed in the industries in order to fill the openings.

“There are a myriad of education and training programs available throughout Indiana that provide pathways to these high-paying, rewarding careers, but more young Hoosiers need to become involved,” Klinck said. “We are inviting our construction and trades ambassadors to attend the Home Show on Trade Day to provide information on careers in the industry. We are also inviting our regional education partners and students to come see everything there is to offer.”

Stained Glass Conservatory Mirrors Giant TerrariumLandscape Coordinator Bill Brown’snew take on a past feature

The stained glass conservatory — with dozens of multicolored windows — will seem like a brand-new structure at this year’s Indianapolis Home Show. But it’s actually a very new take on a Home Show feature from year’s past.

Using the frame from 2014’s butterfly house, the glass house is constructed of dimensional PVC units that connect together. But instead of clear Lexan flaps, the structure is closed in with 50-plus stained glass windows.

Indianapolis Home Show Landscape Coordinator Bill Brown is collaborating with Copper Canyon Landscape Design on the gorgeous conservatory.

For more than 30 years, Brown and his team — William H. Brown Landscape Inc. in Zionsville — have developed a variety of striking garden and landscaping displays for the Indianapolis Home Show. He has brought his creative spark to many Centerpiece Home designs and overseen thousands of square feet of

space devoted to gardens throughout the Home Show each year.

This year’s glass house measures 40 feet long, 12 feet wide and approximately 14 feet tall. It is located in the South Pavilion next to The Pub Garden and Walkway Garden.

Former girlfriend and boyfriend Nina Klemm and Michael LeSure have turned their breakup into a business flipping homes in a new series on Bravo, “Flipping Exes.”

Nina is a realtor with a client roster that includes everyone from professional athletes to CEOs. When she’s not helping Indy’s elite buy and sell million-dollar homes, she’s working

with her ex, Michael, to flip properties and capitalize on the need for newly-renovated and well-designed houses in and around Carmel, Indiana.

The series follows Nina and Michael’s rollercoaster relationship in Carmel, nicknamed “the Beverly Hills of the Midwest,” as they work together to buy, renovate and sell high-end properties.

LeSure purchases the homes, develops the budgets and oversees construction. Klemm handles the design of the

homes, puts them on the market and sells them.

Nina created Flipping Exes LLC in 2015 after her breakup with LeSure. They launched a YouTube channel and website with the goal of educating and assisting potential investors looking to cash in on the home flipping craze.

Their YouTube channel was seen by the agent of cooking star Bobby Flay, leading to the premiere of “Flipping Exes” in August 2019 on Bravo.

The couple hopes their exposure from the show shines the light on Central Indiana as a great place to live, work and play as well as becomes a platform to help others.

“I have a lot of things I would love to do for women,” Nina said. “I’m working with a charity called Restored, which helps human sex trafficking victims.”

LeSure added, “Hopefully this builds into something great so we can help other people.”

Mina Starsiak Hawk and her mom Karen are the co-founders of Two Chicks and a Hammer, Inc. They began rehabbing homes in 2007 and quickly discovered a passion for home renovation.

Two Chicks and a Hammer focuses on renovating homes in the Fountain Square and Bates Hendricks neighborhoods

as well as the surrounding areas. Throughout their work in Indianapolis, Two Chicks and a Hammer found they could do well by doing good in their neighborhood. This drives the business and mission statement to “Revitalize Indianapolis One Property at a Time.”

In 2014, the company was found by High Noon Entertainment, who filmed a pilot for HGTV. The pilot aired in May 2015 under the name “Two Chicks and a Hammer” on HGTV. In July of 2015, they began filming the first season of the show now known as “Good Bones.”

With Karen retiring from the business in 2019, Minanow works on renovating homes full-time, completing

about 14 houses a year!

Mina was also featured on the new HGTV series “Rock the Block,” pitting four of the network’s female renovation pros against one another in a contest to make over one whole house each in just four weeks and with a budget of $175,000.

In addition, both Mina and Karen were part of a new HGTV miniseries, “A Very Brady Renovation,” showcasing the renovation of the Studio City, California house that was used for many of the exterior shots in the 1969-1974 American sitcom “The Brady Bunch.” The house was purchased by HGTV in 2018 for $3.5 million. The renovation was completed in May 2019, and the show premiered on September 9, 2019. All six of the surviving Brady Bunch cast members appeared in the program.

Two Chicks and a Hammer is now in the process of filming the fifth season of “Good Bones,” which includes both Mina and Karen, airing on HGTV in early 2020.

Local designers Liz Henderson, Jessica Madison and Jenny Hollander are taking a blank 20x30-foot space and turning it into a designer’s dream — at an affordable price! These designers offer a vignette of designer-inspired looks throughout the home, complete with landscaping.

“This year we’ve put together a team of three designers to create an open-flow, studio space to be on display,” Henderson said. “We’re excited

to feature a bedroom by Jenny Hollander, dining room by Jessica Madison and living room I’ll be working on, all in an open-concept setting. Our styles will be distinct, but our color palette neutral, allowing for a unique collaboration and space flow.”

Jessica trends toward farmhouse style, Jenny more toward modern, and Liz falls somewhere in between. It will be a special design collaboration that offers something for everyone!

“I’m always inspired by the tradition farmhouse vibes of chippy white wood and textures, but I’m also drawn to the boho trend,” Madison said. “I always buy things I know can be

used in other spaces when I need a new look in certain rooms. I love to mix new items with older, thrift store finds to not break the bank.”

“The main idea I’ve designed the bedroom space around is a black, metal canopy bed, which is very on trend right now,” Hollander said. “I am pairing this modern bed with a vintage rug to give a cozy and comfortable feel.” Always designing on a budget, Jenny typically “splurges” on just a couple pieces in the room she absolutely loves. “If every time you walk into a room, that piece you splurged on makes you smile, it’s worth the investment,” she said.

“Decorating and re-doing a room can intimidate people as they don’t know where to begin,” Henderson said. “During our stage presentations, we’re excited to play a fun little game based on ‘The Price is Right,’ showing attendees how you can achieve high style for less with a few tricks of the trade. We’ll use pieces just as nice that look high-end but cost way less. Our hope is that attendees leave inspired to tackle their own space — even with a minimal budget.”

Jo Ellen Meyers Sharp knows her plants. Also known as The Hoosier Gardener, Jo Ellen is a popular speaker about all kinds of dirty topics to experienced and novice gardeners, new homeowners and just curious individuals.

“My eyes are too big for my yard,” she said. “You just can’t ever have enough plants.”

An Indiana Advanced Master Gardener, Jo Ellen co-teaches the City Gardener Program with the Purdue-Marion County Horticulture Extension Education. She is a garden coach and has an all-season container planting business.

For nearly 20 years, she has worked at a large, independent garden center in Indianapolis, including a stint as buyer of perennials, trees and shrubs. She’s co-author of the “Indiana Gardener’s Guide,” author of “The Visitor’s Guide to American Gardens,” and contributor to “Oxford Companion to the Garden” and “Phaidon’s The Gardener’s Garden.”

Jo Ellen is president of GardenComm, an organization of professional communicators in the green industry educating others about horticulture, agriculture, gardening, natural systems and the environment. She is also a member of Indiana Landmarks Historic Landscapes Committee and past director of the Horticultural Society at Newfields (formerly Indianapolis Museum of Art).

Decorating on a tight budget is a passion for Shannan Martin, author of “The Ministry of Ordinary Places: Waking Up to God’s Goodness Around You.” She discovered this hidden passion not long after getting married.

From her humble beginnings in a shabby basement-level apartment, Martin saw

tremendous value in creating a space of comfort and welcome. After downsizing with a shoestring budget, she flexed her creative muscles and created a home that reflects her personal style almost exclusively through thrifting and second-hand shopping.

On Saturday, January 18, Shannan will be on stage talking with Home Show attendees about the connection between thrifty home decorating and hospitality with our neighbors, something near and dear to her heart.

Shannan loves sharing the message that style belongs to everyone. She will specifically speak to those with limited budgets, sharing clear tips for curating a cozy space with a well-trained eye and plenty of imagination. Shannan will be sharing ideas and demonstrating high-impact pieces that don’t break the bank, like a plate gallery wall using vintage thrift-store plates.

When asked what inspires her designs, Shannan said, “Hands down, I’m most inspired by the changing of the seasons —a gift of our Midwestern landscape. By homing in on my personal style and staying within those bounds, I’m able to make small changes to our home that reflect the seasonal shifts.” Shannan also credits her vibrant community, magazines and Instagram as sources of inspiration.

Shannan said she hopes Home Show visitors exhale when she shares that decorating is more about creating welcome than replicating a trend or impressing others. When asked what she is most excited about, Shannan said, “I can’t wait to share my ideas for tracking down a low-dollar vibe that works for everyone.”

The EveryHome Organizer explained how most of her inspiration comes from other organizers and even her clients. “I’ve connected with others who are so creative, and sometimes I’m simply inspired by a

client’s overall vision or ideas if I’m working alongside them during a project.”

Kate knows organizing a space may not be on every family’s to-do list, but she hopes anyone who sees The Tailored Pantry will appreciate how important an organized space can be.

“When it comes to creating a system that works for you and your family, it is beneficial to buy some products to create that system. I find having a cohesive look in whichever space you are organizing allows you to appreciate the space more and, in turn, makes you want to keep that space tidy and organized.”
