DESCRIPTION

 Trapshooting is competitive shotgun shooting at clay targets launched from a single “house” away from the shooter.  The mission is to introduce school-aged youths to the shooting sports and to facilitate their continued involvement by providing, promoting and perpetuating opportunities to safely and enjoyably participate and compete in a high-quality, team-based sport led by trained adult coaches focused on enhancing the personal growth and development of their athletes.  Trapshooting is a very SAFE sport. Statistically one of the safest sports.  Other Clay Target disciplines include American Double Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays. Also Olympic or International Trap, Double Trap, Skeet. Fairness-the scores YOU shoot are what determines what squad you shoot on.

SCTP is a developmental league. Competition increases the development but it is not the highest value of the organization.

All shooters will shoot at the meets they sign up for.

Trap Shooting is a rapidly growing sport across the state of Iowa and the country; In Iowa 3200+ athletes and 113 Schools participated in 2015. In Iowa there are more than 12 collegiate level teams.

Local teams include North Scott, Davenport Youth Trap, Clinton Maquoketa, and Burlington. Maquoketa was 2014 SCTP National Champions, North Scott was the Iowa Champions.

SE Iowa is the top area in Iowa and one of the top areas in the country for trapshooting.

Trapshooting gives another option for involvement in a sport that will last a lifetime and potential for national and international competition with Olympic possibilities.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundations, Inc, (SSSF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that serves as the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP), started in 2001; other supporting organizations locally include Iowa Scholastic Clay Target Program, Inc., Iowa High School Clay Target Association, Amateur Trapshooting Association, Iowa State Trapshooting Association, Iowa DNR.

Athletes are divided into four divisions based on academic grade level and experience: Rookie (fifth grade and below), Intermediate (sixth through eighth grades), Junior Varsity (ninth through twelfth grades), and Varsity (eleventh and twelfth grades with at least two years of experience at the Junior Varsity level).

If you decide to shoot at State-must join Amateur Trapshooting Assoc. ATA AIM cost is $12/year on your own.

As the leader in youth development shooting sports programs, the Scholastic Clay Target Program promotes gun safety, personal responsibility, and sportsmanship among primary and secondary students.

Teams compete at the local, state, and national level.

Trophies and college scholarships are awarded to third place, runner-up, and champion squads in each division at the SCTP National Championships

Coaches:Coaches participated in the 8 hour Iowa DNR Basic Shotgun

Coach certification course.Coaches are required to take Continuing Education every 2

years.Online Double Goal-good for 1 year until Iowa DNR or other

approved training takes place.

Clinton County Sportsmans Club (CCSC) has offered to host our team for practices and meets. They currently host the North Scott team as well.

Meets will be held at NRA-affiliated Gun Clubs around the area and state

Some past meets have been held in Peosta, Muscatine, Cedar Rapids. State meets are in Cedar Falls.

Three levels to participate: $250 Singles and Handicap-No State Meet $350 Singles, Handicap, Doubles-No State Meet $500 Singles, Handicap, Doubles-with State Meet

Additional Cost(s): Ammunition is the largest cost of this sport!!! Ammunition-Approximate cost of box of shells is $6.

• Practice: $12 for Singles/Handicap. $24 Singles/Handicap/Doubles.

• Meets: $12 Singles, $24 to add Handicap, $36 to add Doubles

No guns, ammunition or empty shells will be allowed on school grounds for any reason. Practice on Wednesdays at 4:00 pm. There should be enough time where students will have time to go home and get all equipment and be at practice on time.

All athletes must demonstrate safety and a positive attitude at all times. Reference the Sportsmanship Contract.

Emergency Procedures will be in place and followed strictly at all practices and meets

Eligibility Rules/Code of Conduct Rules will Apply-Passing grades at school. Must meet the requirements of any athlete.

Lettering in the future may be a possibility if it is approved by the local school and/or as a state-sanctioned events in the future.

A strict dress code and behavior policy will be followed
