PROSPECTIVE CONFIRMATION SPONSORS

All Confirmation sponsors need to have some

instruction on the meaning of Confirmation and the

sponsor’s responsibility. To make this more

convenient for you, we have set up two (2) dates

from which you can choose to come to the school

and get the instruction. It will take about one (1)

hour. This will also give you an opportunity to ask

questions. It is necessary to attend only one class,

either Monday January 23, 2017 or Monday

March 20, 2017. We will meet in the St.

Columbanus School gym at 7:15 p.m.

CHALICE FOR

VOCATIONS PROGRAM

As you might be aware, due to the sick-

ness of Frank Gaglione (who used to as-

sign the chalice to families) there has been

an interruption in the program. Please keep Frank in

your prayers. We would like to continue to assign

the chalice to families so they can pray for an in-

crease in vocations for the priesthood. Every week a

family that signed up is called forward during the

Mass (whichever they attend) and is presented with

the Chalice and a folder with prayers to pray for an

increase in vocations. You may place the Chalice on

your dinner table, light the candles, and pray as a

family before dinner. We welcome families of all

sizes, including those who are living alone.. To sign

up, please contact the rectory at 914-737-4705 to be

put on the Chalice program list. If you have already

been part of this program and wish to continue,

please contact the rectory again as the list has been

misplaced. Thank you!

THANK YOU

We would like to thank everyone very much for the

thoughtful gifts of appreciation, as we have been able

to use your generous gifts to assist Father during his

time of sickness and recovery.

We feel blessed that God has allowed us to be

available for Father Frank at this time when he needs

care after he has always been there for so many of

us.

We are preparing Father for his 24 day stay at Mt.

Sinai, and as always, if you wish to do something to

help, Father asks to please continue to keep him in

your prayers. He wants you to know that he sends his

blessings and prayers to you all.

Thank you,

Don and Margaret Roche

PASTOR’S NOTES

Today is a sad yet hopeful day. It is the 44 th anni-

versary of the Supreme Court decision sanctioning

the murder of unborn children at any time during

pregnancy. But over the years the lie of “choice” and

“women’s health” through abortion has been seen to

be an empty mantra to make money and promote

moral evils like contraception, abortion, sex outside

of marriage, and more recently homosexual

“unions.” All this by people and groups such as

Planned Parenthood that prosper financially without

concern for the women, men, families and society

that are harmed physically, psychologically, eco-

nomically, and morally by such evils.

Young people are more and more pro-life, realizing

that they are “survivors” who could have been le-

gally killed in the womb.

This year the March for Life will be held in Wash-

ington, DC, on Friday, January 27, 2017. We are

once again teaming up with Assumption Parish to

provide a bus for the march.

I hope as many as possible will sign up to go from

our parish. It is a great witness to life and the sight of

so many young people is truly inspiring and hopeful.

Those who cannot go may lend their support through

prayer, especially the Rosary. It was the Rosary that

has temporarily turned our country away from the

brink of tyranny and Godlessness and it will be the

Rosary and our sacrifices that will end the scourge of

abortion.

In Jesus and Mary,

Fr. Frank Samoylo

GOD IS CALLING YOU TO A DEEPER

RELATONSHIP WITH HIM If we consider that God is the Divine Bridegroom

and the Church is the Bride, then the prophets can be

seen as “spiritual marriage counselors.” They afflict

the comfortable and comfort the afflicted, calling us

to return to our covenant relationship with God.

They urge us to repentance, warn us of the dangers

of sin, and announce the blessings of faithfulness,

their prophetic words speak to us even today, as they

draw us closer to our heavenly Bridegroom.

St. John the Evangelist Parish, 221 east Lake Blvd.,

Mahopac, NY will begin The Prophets: Messengers

of God’s Mercy on Wednesday January 18th at 7:00

pm and Monday, January 23rd at 9:45am. There will

be 10 sessions. To register, fill out the form in the

vestibules.
