FROM THE PASTOR
My dear sisters and brothers, the Prophet Zephaniah tells us: “But, I will leave as a remnant in your midst a people humble and
lowly, who shall take refuge in the name of the Lord: the remnant of Israel”. Out of that remnant God raised up the people who
would bring the Son of God into the world.
I can’t help seeing a connection to our Nation now in its history. The Inauguration of President Trump opens the door for our
Country to reassert its core values upon which Our Nation was built. Our strong Christian/Judaic values of faith and a clear notion
of right and wrong built our great country. The attacks on those values in the name of political correctness have weakened our moral
fiber. The attacks on Religious Freedom, Right to Life, and acceptance of every type of behavior as acceptable is tearing our land
apart.
Let us pray that this reawakening of our moral fiber, led by our new president, may lead to a renewal in our nation’s values. We
need not be afraid to stand up for our values and our beliefs. One of the prayers read at the Inauguration quoted from today’s Gospel
of the Beatitudes: “Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because
of me. Rejoice and be glad for your reward will be great in heaven”. If we are ridiculed or attacked for standing up for our Christian
values, then ‘Blessed are we’.
Right to Life March
God bless all those who participated in the March in Washington or visited the offices of our elected leaders here in the state. Also,
thank you to all those who have offered and continue to offer prayers in support of the Right to Life Movement.
Our Respect Life Committee is in need of more volunteers to help get the Message of Life out. If you are interested or want more
information about the committee you can contact Maria Calamari at 201-670-0850 or call the rectory and leave your name and
phone number and one of the committee members will get back to you.
Calendar Raffle
Our Calendar Raffle is well under way. If you haven’t sold your tickets get going. This is one of our major fundraisers. The last
two years we raised $15,000 a year through the Raffle. Let’s see if we can break the $20,000 mark this year. Extra tickets and prize
sheets are available at the Rectory if you need them. We will be using the money for work that needs to be done inside the Sullivan
Center
Sharing God’s Blessing Annual Appeal 2017
The Sharing God’s Blessing Appeal (aka Archbishop’s Annual Appeal) was scheduled to take place on the weekend of February
4th and 5th, Super Bowl weekend. However, with the arrival of our new Cardinal Archbishop Joseph Tobin the Archdiocese has
not been able to get the materials ready for that weekend. The appeal will be moved back to the end of February or beginning of
March.
May God, bless you,
Fr. Stephen Cinque

welcome attending their local parish liturgy, although they are
very welcome. These are the people and families, in particular,
that we are welcoming to attend these Masses and to celebrate
the Eucharist with other members of the surrounding
