Food-Allergy-Friendly Communion Bread For some time, gluten-free bread has been offered in a separate dish in the center of the communion tray. The gluten-free bread is now free of the eight major food allergens (milk, wheat, soy, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish)* as well. Please note, however, that the bread is made in a facility that uses eggs. The bread is also being cut using a clean knife and cutting board that do not come in contact with the regular communion bread. If you require gluten-free or allergen-free bread, please take from the center dish. If you do not need this special bread, please continue to take the regular bread, and kindly refrain from touching the center dish, as your fingers may spread gluten or allergens. Thank you!

*A complete ingredient list is available at right:

The Work of Christmas by Howard Thurman, African-American theologian, educator, and civil rights leader (mentor of Martin Luther King) When the song of the angels is stilled, when the star in the sky is gone, when the kings and princes are home, when the shepherds are back with their flocks, the work of Christmas begins: to find the lost, to heal the broken, to feed the hungry, to release the prisoner, to rebuild the nations, to bring peace among the people, to make music in the heart.

Prayer Requests

In 2020, 23,000 children will age out of foster care in this country. This month, we are praying that: Every child that ages out of the foster care system

would have the resources necessary to survive as an adult living on their own…

Every aged out child will have a support system of adults in our community who will guide them through this process…

God would reveal ways for the people and churches in Michigan to tangibly support children who must age out without ever being part of a forever family.

Care Corps Threshold Singers Rescheduled The Threshold Singers were scheduled to sing for us in November but were canceled due to the snowstorm. The program is back on the calendar for January 13th. What are the Threshold Singers, you ask. . . About 200 such groups have formed since the first was founded in 2000 in California. Layla Ananda of the Ann Arbor group describes their mission this way, "Threshold choirs sing to people in the midst of a transformative life event: most often dying, but also recovering from illness or surgery, going through difficult emotional times, or being in chronic pain. They sing in hospitals and hospices, at nursing homes, in private homes, and once in a while, for the general public." The Ann Arbor choir will sing for us on Monday, January 13th, at 7:15 PM in the Hearth Room. All FPCP members are invited and you're welcome to bring a friend or family member, as always. The deacons will provide a soup supper in the Hearth Room at 6:30. At least one of the soups will be vegetarian. There is no need to RSVP. It's also fine if you want to come for one part of the evening and not the other. We'll be glad to see you! Fitness in Christ Update: Nutrition and Yoga classes are starting this January!

Did you know that you make over 200 nutrition decisions a day? Interested in eating healthier in the New Year?

Denise Stewart, RD, is partnering with Fitness in Christ for a casual round-table discussion about “The Basics of a Healthy Plate” on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 7pm in the Hearth Room. Kick-off 2020 with tips and strategies for making healthy nutrition choices to help you be all that God created you to be! Sign up is available online at: http://fpcp.net/adults/fitness-in-christ-nutrition-yoga-classes.

Yoga for EveryBODY!! Begin the new year with physical and spiritual wellness! Come join us at 6pm on Thursday, January 23, Thursday, February 20th and Thursday, March 19th for a one hour basic yoga class! Lisa Petty, RYT 200, will guide a basic yoga sequence of poses; seated and standing. Lisa is a member of our congregation who teaches beginner and flow yoga at several local studios. This will be beneficial and fun for everyone; all levels are welcomed!

Yoga for a safe, strong back! Learn yoga poses to strengthen your back as well as how to move safely in a yoga practice to avoid back strain. This yoga class is appropriate for all levels. Participants must be able to get up and down off the floor (it doesn’t need to be graceful!). The class will be taught by FPCP member Sharon Holcomb, a registered yoga instructor, Thursday, February 6th and Thursday, March 5th at 6 pm. Sign up for all classes at www.fpcp.net/signups. Yoga participants should wear clothing that allows easy movement and bring clothing for warmth such as socks and a sweatshirt. Bring a yoga mat, a blanket or beach towel, and yoga blocks if you have them. If you have extra blocks, please bring some to share. If you bring your own water bottle (think green!), please be sure the top will close securely. There will be a “free will” offering after the nutrition and yoga classes with the proceeds benefitting one of FPCP’s mission partners. Questions? Please contact Patrick Murphy, pkadysmurphy[@]yahoo.com

Deacons

SAVE THE DATE - JANUARY 26, 2020 DEACON SOUP AND COOKIE COOKOFF

The Deacons are sponsoring a Soup and Cookie cookoff and are looking for people who like to cook, people who like to bake, and people who like to eat. Do you make a delicious soup you'd like to share, or bake a cookie that everyone wants the recipe

for? You can share your talents with the rest of the church between and after services on Jan. 26, 2020. Do you prefer to taste test delicious food? Then come that day, vote for your favorite soup and cookie, and help us pick a winner. Signup sheets will be posted in January. Don’t miss this chance for food, fun, and fellowship!

Did you know? If you are a regular financial giver to FPCP, thank you! Every gift is a blessing that works to glorify God. Did you know that just filling out an estimate of giving helps the church? How so? Estimates help reduce uncertainty in the budget planning that is happening this time of year. By reducing this uncertainty, ministries can focus on their vision and purpose, not on their funding. Please consider filling out a non-binding estimate of giving. It is understood that circumstances can change a family’s ability to contribute. Regardless, having an estimate will allow your contributions to be put to the most efficient use in the 2020 budget. Forms are available in the back of the Sanctuary pews and Upper Room chairs. Completed forms may be sent to the church to the attention of Stu Dodge. All who complete a form will receive pledge envelopes to help identify their contributions to the offering plate. Thank you for your commitment of financial support to FPCP. The Stewardship Committee

WEDNESDAY MORNING WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY

AMP - A Morning’s Peace & W3 – Women in the Word on Wednesdays JUDE: Contending For The Faith In Today’s Culture by Jackie Hill Perry January 8 – February 19, 2020 (7 weeks) 9:30 – 11:30 A.M. Cost: $20 (Materials & Study Guide)

While often overlooked, the Book of Jude remains as relevant today as the time it was written. God has commanded His beloved church to do the necessary work of contending for the faith in a world of unbelief, and as we do, He will keep us from falling into the same deception. This study dives into themes of being called, loved, and kept, as we learn how to point others to Jesus in grace and truth. We serve others well when we share the whole gospel with them, not just the parts deemed attractive by our culture. This Bible study is for women of all ages and is structured to meet once a week for 7 consecutive sessions. Jude is a daily Bible Study intended for women who are committed to the challenge of daily course work and spiritual growth. A DVD lesson is shown in class each week with small group discussion to follow. Class meets from 9:30 – 11:30 A.M. Contact Rev. Emily Campbell (emilycampbell[@]pcp.net) or Sue Kage (skage[@]comcast.net) with questions and/or register online at: http://fpcp.net/signups. Sign-up is also available on the Life Long Learning bulletin board by the elevator. Please register by January 5. 2020.

Life Long Learning

Men’s Bible Study – Paul’s Letter to the Romans – Starting Jan. 4 To all Men: have you been feeling a “tug” to spend more time in the Bible? Starting on Saturday, January 4, 7:30-9:00 am, we’ll start an 18-week study of Paul’s letter to Roman Christians. We’ll use N. T. Wright’s commentary (“Romans for Everyone”) and study guide to lead us. Cost of materials - $6 (for Study Guide only); $20 (for Guide and Vol. 1 of Wright’s commentary - - highly recommended). For info, please contact Tom Weaver ttw[@]comcast.net. Thanks!

“The Door is Always Open!”

Tuesday Evening Bible Study begins 10-week study on January 14 “What On Earth Am I Here For”, by Rick Warren

“What on Earth Am I Here For?,” an expanded edition of “the Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren, has been adopted by the Tuesday Evening Bible Study for the period of January 14 through March 17, 2020. Over ten-weeks, Dale Frank will be leading us in a study of “Seeing Life from God’s View.” The class meets from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. in the Chapel on Tuesday evenings. While people are welcome to join the discussion any week, our understanding will build from week to week during the study. Study materials include the text book and “Daily Inspiration for the Purpose Driven Life,” containing Bible scriptures and reflections. Sign up on the form on the bulletin board to the left of the elevator in the church hallway or on the “Sign-Ups” page of the church website. Questions? Please e-mail Nancy White at nancyjwhite[@]comcast.net
