Available for National Child Abuse Prevention MonthThe Department of Early Learning (DEL) is observing National Child Abuse Prevention month in April 2017 by raising awareness in communities about child abuse and neglect prevention.  As the Prevent Child Abuse Washington State Chapter we encourage you to join the Pinwheels for Prevention initiative.  This initiative uses pinwheels – a timeless symbol for childhood – to represent its campaign.

Of all the 185 MIECHV families that provided consent over the last reporting year, only 1 had a substantiated case of maltreatment. Your work with families is critical in building the 5 protective factors, ameliorate the effects of trauma and mitigate risk for child abuse. Please help spread the word by planting, displaying or sharing pinwheels during the month of April.

Pinwheels for Prevention is

roles between DEL, Thrive, and DOH and the details for on-line reporting, sub-recipient monitoring, data collection and reporting.  Our plan is to release individual agency contracts on May 1st for negotiating and signing, with anticipated execution on July 1st.

DEL has also created a “home visiting inbox” so any HVSA questions or communications can be directed via email to [email protected].

WSCADV Webinar & Upcoming TrainingsThe Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (WSCADV) staff, Leigh Hofheimer and the Department of Early Learning (DEL) staff, Jenni Olmstead, presented a webinar Domestic Violence Screening: Let’s talk about it! on 1.11.2017 that covered best practices when screening for domestic violence, two preferred screening tools, and strategies that open the door to further conversations about healthy relationships.

Talking about domestic violence and healthy relationships is

a reminder that it is not enough to respond to child abuse and neglect – we must build and support strong families through community engagement, programs, and policies.  This movement works towards developing communities that are healthy, safe, and nurturing for all children and all families.

Please place your order for pinwheels using the form attached.  Pinwheels are available on a first come, first serve basis.  Pinwheels will be available for delivery in March.
