Hop Scotch Memory Verse Big Idea: Children will hop along the Hopscotch board while practicing their memory verse.

What You Need: Hopscotch board What You Do: Before the Activity: In an open area of the room, lay the hopscotch board down on the floor. During the Activity: Demonstrate for the children how to hop from one foam piece to the next as they say this month’s memory verse. Encourage the children to follow you by hopping on the board and saying the verse together. Repeat as time and interest allow. What You Say: Before the Activity: “Our memory verse this month says: You are everything I need, Psalm 119:57. That means that Jesus is always there for us. He will help us and provide everything we need. A need is something necessary to live, like water. Jesus is with us and He will give us everything we need. Let’s say our verse together as we hop together on the floor. Let me show you.” (Demonstrate.) During the Activity: “Follow me as we say the verse together. (Hop on the foam pieces.) You are everything I need, Psalm 119:57.’ Great job everyone!” (Repeat as desired.) After the Activity: “I love this month’s verse! Tell me: Who is there when you need Him? Jesus is there when I need Him. Jesus had the power to help the man whose friends brought him to Jesus, and He has the power to help us too. Jesus is there when I need Him—always!”

Carry Me Big Idea: Children will work together in teams of four carrying a beach ball around the room on a towel. What You Need: Towels, Emoji beach balls (1 towel and ball for every 3-4 children) and masking tape What You Do: During the activity: Divide the children into teams of three or four. Give each team a towel and a ball. Show them how to carry the towel with the ball on top of it. You can have them carry the ball from one end of the room and back or make an obstacle course with chairs or masking tape. Switch the teams around so the children get to play with different friends. The goal is to make it around the room without dropping your ball. Continue playing as long as the children are having fun. What You Say: Before the activity: “I have lots of friends for us to play with today. This is … (introduce all of the balls with silly names). We’re going to put our friends on big towels and carry them around the room. Let’s see if we can do this without dropping any of them!” During the activity: “Now hold the corner of your towel. When I say go, I want you to go to the end of the room, touch the wall, and come back. On your mark! Get set! Go!” At the end of the activity: “In our Bible lesson today, four friends carried a man who couldn’t walk to see Jesus. Their friend needed Jesus! I bet the man in our story was so glad Jesus helped him to walk again. Who is there when you need Him? Jesus is there when I need Him.”

Four Square Musical Chairs Big Idea: Children will play a version of musical chairs using squares on the floor instead of chairs. What You Need: “Man on the Mat” Activity Page, Painter’s tape, Music player and fun music

What You Do: Before the activity: Make several squares on the floor with tape (there should be enough squares so every child has a corner to start with. It might be helpful to make the squares in a rectangular pattern so it is easier for children to visualize which squares are no longer part of the game.) Tape a “Man on the Mat” Activity Page picture inside the center of each square. During the activity: Have the children walk around the squares until the music stops and you say, “Friends”. When you say, “Friends,” the children should go to a square and stand on a corner (only one child per corner). There should be four friends at each square. Help children move to complete squares as needed. (You may have to have a volunteer fill a spot in round one so each square is complete.) Each time you restart the music, remove a “Man on the Mat” Activity Page picture from one square and no longer use that square. You will continue to remove one picture and use one less square until one final square and four children are left. At the end of the activity: Sit in the squares and review the Bible lesson. What You Say: Before the activity: “Look at this shape. Do you know what this shape is called? (Pause.) It’s a square! A square has four corners. (Count out the corners as you walk and step on each one.) We’re going to play a game. You are going to walk around all the squares until you hear the music stop and I say, ‘Friends.’ When you hear me say, ‘Friends,’ you go find a square and stand on one of the corners. Only four friends in a square!” During the activity: “Ready to play? (Pause.) Friends! (Pause.) You all made it to a square! Let’s count to see if there are four to a square. (Count the kids in each square and move some children to other squares if needed.) What a great job! Let’s play again, but this time we will remove one square from our game! (Repeat as many times as desired.)” At the end of the activity: “How many friends did we need in a square? (Pause.) Four! (Count out on your fingers.) One, two, three, four—four friends! That is what our Bible lesson was about today, four friends!”

(Older children may want to write their friends’ names inside the heart or ways they can help others.) We are going to make a heart ornament so that we can remember to help our friends too! At the end of the activity: “Great job! The man needed help and his friends helped him. Small Group Time What you Need: Parent Take Home Card, Playdoh, People Cookie Cutters, Rolling Pins, and Emoji Sticker Roll SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): “The four friends in our lesson today knew Jesus had the power to help their friend who couldn’t walk. What did the four friends do to help their friend get to Jesus? (Pause for responses.) Yes! They carried him! Then they lowered him through a roof so he could see Jesus! Wow! Those are some pretty awesome friends! “Do you know that Jesus has the power to help your friends too? It’s true! Jesus will always be there when you need Him, just like He was there for the friends in our lesson today. Who is there when you need Him? Jesus is there when I need Him!” SGL: Look at these cookie cutters. They are people cookie cutters! Let’s make our friends out of Play-Doh. Flatten out your Play-Doh. (Pause.) Now push down the cookie cutter. (Pause.) Look at that! You made a friend! Can you make four friends? Wonderful! (Give high fives.) Now it’s time to talk to God. I want us to pray for our friends today. Since Jesus has the power to help our friends, I think we should pray for them. Praying for our friends is kind of like carrying them to Jesus, just like the friends did in our lesson today. When I say your name, I want you to tell me one of your friends. We can then pray for all our friends. (Say the prayer below with the children.) SGL: “Dear God, thank You for giving us friends. Thank You for giving us the best friend we could ever have: JESUS! Thank You that Jesus is always there when we need Him. We want to pray for our friends because we know Jesus has the power to help them. We pray for [child’s name]’s friend [child’s friend’s name], and (repeat for each child). We pray all our friends will love You and know that Jesus wants to be their friend forever. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.” SGL: “Ok, it’s time to review our lesson. I am going to ask you some questions and you will get a sticker for answering them. I have some really cool stickers today. Are you ready? (Pause.) Great! (Ask the children the questions from the “Parent Take Home Cards”. You can also make up additional questions from our video lesson. Don’t forget to ask them to say their memory verse for another sticker. You can repeat the same questions over and over as repetition is good for preschoolers.) You are such great listeners!” “Now I’ll pray one more time before it’s time to say goodbye until next week. (Read the prayer on the back of the “Parent Take Home Card.”)”
