PASTOR ALICE WOLFE God is doing a NEW thing!
Happy New Year!
At the beginning of the New Year, we hear a lot about things being NEW — New Year, New Year’s Resolutions, a chance to make changes and begin a new life or new chap-ter in life, new leaders in the church, new ministries or op-portunities in church or work, and so forth. When I hear about new things, I often think of God’s words through the Prophet Isaiah (Isa. 43:18-19):
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”
God warned the Israelites that they would (temporarily) be overcome by their enemy, the Babylo-nians, and many would be taken captive and forced to live in Babylon. But God promised that he would bring them back from cap-tivity and restore them. The same God who parted the waters of the Red Sea and delivered the Israelites from their slavery in Egypt, was the same God who would make a way when there seemed to be no way—and he would deliver them from their captivity. The God for whom nothing is impossible was about to make a way and bring streams of water into the dry desert, wasteland. God encouraged them to forget the former things, to not dwell on the past, but instead to open their eyes and see the new thing that God was about to do. God is doing a new thing in us, too! For many of us, includ-ing the church, last year was a difficult and challenging year. In the same way God encouraged the Israelites to forget the former things and not dwell on the past, God en-courages us. The same God who made a way when there seemed to be no way in delivering the Israelites from the Egyptians, would deliver them from the Babylonians, and
then from their sins by providing a Savior and Redeemer, Jesus the Christ. The same God who delivered his people in the past is the same God who can and will deliver us. The hope is the same for us as it was for the Israelites, that God will use his people as a witness to the world! God is doing a new thing because he loves us and all peo-ple! God is doing a new thing because he wants to reveal himself to the world through us! Will we open our eyes and see it…?
God is doing a new thing! Last year, the Visioning Team prayed, researched, worked, and listened to discern God’s vision for Christ United Meth-odist Church. After listening to your input and comparing it
with everything else they learned, God helped them clarify and summarize his vi-sion for Christ United Method-ist Church. The administrative council agreed with what God gave them, and now we are excited to share it with you!
We hope you will make every effort to join us for worship on
JANUARY 10 as we share God’s vision for Christ UMC and begin to discover how God is calling each of us to be a part of it!
God is doing a new thing! Do you see it? Pray that we will all open our eyes to God and the path he is laying out be-fore us. Pray that we, like the Israelites, will turn from our past sins, receive and share the forgiveness God offers us, and be eager to follow God as he leads us! May we all follow God as he does a new thing in us and works through us to be a witness to the world!
“And so, dear brothers and sisters,
I PLEAD with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you.
Let them be a LIVING and HOLY SACRIFICE—the kind he will find acceptable.
This is truly the way to WORSHIP him.”
(Romans 12:1, NLT)
The Word of the Month: “WORSHIP”
KRISTY SCHOOLER Prayer Ministry
“Our eyes look to the Lord our God.” ~Psalm 123:2
WE NEED TO KEEP OUR FOCUS
Everything changes when we set our focus on God. We filter every situation through the knowledge we have of Him. Is any problem too hard for Him? No. Can He use every circumstance for our good and His glory? Yes.
Because nothing is impossible for God, every challenge we encounter is just another opportunity to see His mighty work in our lives – building our confidence in Him.
Unfortunately, sometimes we lose our focus. It’s so easy to do – especially when unexpected trouble arises. It can even be something small – a flat tire, a bill that’s dif-ficult to pay, an irritating issue. Suddenly we’re wondering, God, where are you?
God hasn’t moved; our focus has – and we must turn our attention back to Him. Because He’s STILL bigger than our problems and will certainly help us!
As we begin a new year, let’s put our focus firmly on Christ day-in and day-out! What a difference it could make in 2016!
God, help us to keep our eyes on you! We praise you that nothing is ever too difficult for you and that you use eve-rything for our good and your glory. Amen.
“I life my eyes to You, the One enthroned in heaven… Show us favor, Lord.” ~Psalm 123:1, 3
Keep praying and praising,
Kristy Schooler
During January, as a church family, let’s concentrate our prayers. Each week, let’s agree to pray together for the fol-lowing people and ministries:

estimated giving for 2016 is 7.2% increase over 2015! To God be the glory!
Your church leaders are working hard to finalize the 2016 budget. The finance committee presented a draft budget to
the administrative council, and the administrative council offered some suggestions. Both groups are working to final-
ize the budget in January. We will let you know when the budget is finalized.
Thank you for your generosity, your faithfulness, and your continued prayers! May God continue to lead us forward in
doing all we can to help people find and follow Jesus Christ.

As we begin again a new calendar
cycle let’s consider a new challenge:
how can we be an answer to Jesus’
prayer to the Father, “thy kingdom
come” and a response to his com-
mand that we love our neighbor. In
the end it is up to us in this our time.
NEWS:
We have received another quarterly donation from Kroger
based upon their community rewards program and the
folks who signed up to benefit the Good Neighbors every
time they use their Kroger Plus Card at the grocery. In the
report that was emailed to us there are just 10 households
signed up with Good Neighbors. This donation was just
under $150. Imagine if we had 20 or 30 households signed
up with Kroger to donate to us?! Please consider signing
up with your Kroger card even if it isn’t your main choice
for shopping, even stopping in on occasion will help GNIV.
Here’s how:
Register online at krogercommunityrewards.com
Be sure to have your Kroger Plus card handy and reg-
ister your card with the Good Neighbors after you sign
in.
If you don’t have a Kroger card they are available at
any Kroger customer service desk.
Most participants are new online customers, so they
must click on SIGN UP TODAY in the ‘New Custom-
er?’ box.
Sign up for a Kroger Rewards Account by entering zip
code, clicking on which Kroger location you stop at.
Enter your email address and create a password.
Follow the steps from there and you will choose Good
Neighbors in the Village as your donor organization
(we hope!)
Not computer savvy? Ask family or a friend or myself
(Gayle) to help. We thank you!
February 1st will be our next quarterly Board and Member
meeting. Location TBA. We are going to be electing and
installing new leadership. We are still in need of a willing
Recording Secretary. Call Gayle if you are willing 740 438-
3820.
I want to send a note of thanks to all of our partners who
have so generously contributed to the various outreach
programs sponsored by the Good Neighbors in the Village.
It is each of you whose time, talents and resources have
made it all happen. We will go forward in 2016 to feed
hungry neighbors with food resources, community gather-
ings of caring neighbors or just good neighborly fun events
with willing hearts and hands and in the name of our Lord
Jesus, the Christ.

Can it really be time for another newsletter?
Can it really be ANOTHER New Year, already?
Boy, time flies!!!!
The Baltimore Food pantry is always taxed at the end of the year - Thanksgiving boxes, and then Christmas boxes. Everyone give a big kudos to Will Beckwith and Ruth Crutcher who are the heart and soul of our food pantry. That being said - we are the lifeblood of that same pantry. Without the leadership and the strong backs and hours of dedication and your generosity, the Food Pantry could never reach and serve as many as it does. So don't let the doldrums of winter dampen your enthusiasm for helping those less fortunate.
TIM & SUE COOPER Food Pantry Here are some ideas for January giving:

Chunky Soups
Pasta Sauce
Boxed Rice Dishes Let's keep that grocery cart in the narthex overflowing.

CARA NOYES Choir & Praise Band Update The Super Bowl is known for its big halftime show. This year my husband Greg, is thrilled for his favorite band. Coldplay will be entertaining with show-stopping vigor. Scripture paints a scene full of musical vibrancy, bigger than any halftime show, in Psalm 68:24-26, 34-35: "Your procession has come into view, O God— the procession of my God and King as he goes into the sanctuary. Singers are in front, musicians behind; between them are young women playing tambourines. Praise God, all you people of Israel; praise the LORD, the source of Israel’s life. Tell everyone about God’s power. His majesty shines down on Israel; his strength is mighty in the heavens. God is awesome in his sanctuary. The God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!" (New Living Translation)
Here at Christ UMC, we are striving for vibrant praise in our worship music. At the contemporary service, children are a part of that tambourine playing (and other fun instruments!)
on a regular basis. But we can always use more singers and musicians. Rehearsals are Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. Let's raise our praises even louder. In our 8:45 worship service, the choir is continually seeking new voices to join us in
song. Come be a part of our joyous praise each week. Don't just enjoy from the sidelines; if you can sing, get in the game! Choir rehearsals are Wednesdays at 7:15 p.m. We're starting practices for this year's Palm Sunday cantata this month. Whoo hoo! Our AWESOME God is present in our sanctuary, here in Baltimore! Come, lift up your hands (instrumentalists) and voices (singers) be part of the joyous procession of praise!

The Empty Bowls Project is an international movement that began in
the early 1990’s and has raised millions of dollars in donations to help
hungry people. It was founded by several school teachers in Michigan
whose students wanted to raise money to help the local people who
were hungry. They decided to have a fundraiser dinner of soup and
bread. The image of the empty bowl reminds us of the many people
whose bowls are empty because they don’t have food.
As we fill our bowls with soup, we are reminded of how blessed we are
to have a hot meal everyday. Our gratitude leads to giving. In 2012
the Baltimore and Thurston communities had their first Empty Bowls
Project. The goal was to raise money for two area charities: The
Baltimore/Thurston Food Pantry and the Liberty Township Community
Chest. These local organization help to support individuals and families
in need of food, rent, utility, clothing and prescription assistance.
Successful events such as this require the cooperation and
contributions of many. Monetary donations for this fundraising event
can be made via the church by indicating that your gift is for “Empty
Bowls.”
Please plan to support this local community mission and attend the
2016 Empty Bowls, Sunday, March 6, 4:00 to 6:00 at the VFW, 2155
Baltimore-Reynoldsburg Road. Local churches will be serving a
variety of homemade soups, crackers, cookies and beverages. There
will be a silent auction of items donated by churches, businesses and
individuals. Contact Louise Smith (740-862-6018) for more information
or call the office at 740-862-4343.

Hope you had
a peaceful and
inspiring
Christ-
mas. Now that the new year is upon
us I'm ready to dig in and start some
new projects. By January I have a
paint brush in hand and ready to
freshen up a room in my home. I
guess I'm trying to sweep away the
old year and welcome a new
year. This year I have a few ideas
ready to begin a new year with our
prayer shawl ministry. If you can cro-
chet and/or knit come and join us to
start off the year helping bring comfort
and warmth (a hug from God) to
those who are in need. We will be
meeting on January 12 and January
26 in the parlor at 10:00. If you have
any questions about our prayer
shawls or know someone (they do not
have to attend our church) who could
use a shawl, please contact the
church office or myself.
Blessings to you in this new year,
