Balestier Road has always been important to various Singaporean communities, and has many familiar landmarks: architectural, historical and social. But in the late 1990s and early 2000s, its fate was somewhat uncertain. Today, it is a road that is celebrated for its rich history and architecture, while enhancements have also been made to help the public better enjoy the road. This talk will give an overview of the efforts that took place over the past 20 years by URA and its partners, including the key decision to gazette over 160 buildings for conservation in 2003.
