●Two Japanese companies ”T.CHATANI&CO.,LTD.” and “TOYOTOMI CO., LTD.” donated more than 1,500 cooking stoves for IDPs in the Kurdistan Region in cooperation with the Chihan Group(2016 Feb. and 2017 Aug.).

Assistance from Japanese companies / organizations to Iraq

●A Japanese leading clothing company “Fast Retailing”, famous for its brand “UNIQLO”, donated winter clothes to IDPs for alleviation of coldness in cooperation with the EoJ and Japanese and Iraqi NGOs.

●Japan Football Association (Vice President Mr. Tashima) donated 50 soccer balls to orphans and IDPs to encourage their daily life.

Financial Support through the FFS (USD 26 million)

●Japan supports early return of IDPs to their home in the liberated areas through Rebuilding Infrastructure Projects, Capacity building support to the Governmental organizations and local governments relevant to the IDP assistance, providing job opportunities, job training, micro-business support, etc.

※FFS (Funding Facility for Stabilization) is a multi-funding scheme operated by UNDP.

(※1 Since 2009, 770 officials of Ministry of Interior, including police officers have got trained in Jordan in the fields such as (i) investigation of terrorist groups and organized crimes, (ii) cyber crimes, (iii) strategic security planning, (iv) techniques of tracking the financial assets for terrorism and counter-measures against money laundering and 19 police officers were trained in Japan in the fields such as (i) countering international terrorism, (ii) organization management for senior police officers. (※2 CMAC is a Cambodia’s leading independent demining organization established in 1992. Their activities include mine/UXO clearance, risk education, training and survey.)

● Training in Jordan Responding to the request by Ministry of Interior of Iraq, Japan (JICA) has created special training courses on IED clearance as part of assistance for stabilization in liberated areas. A total of 96 trainees received trainings (17 courses) in the period between Oct. 2015 – Mar. 2017. (※1)

● Cooperation with Cambodia Mine Action Center (CMAC) (※2)

74 members of the delegation (Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Environment and KRG) joined in the training course at CMAC in November, 2016, July and December, 2017. The 4th Training Corse will be conducted in Jan. 2019.

●Japan funded USD 868,041 (2016) and USD764,171 (2017) to “Mines Advisory Group (MAG)” and also funded USD 833,329 to “Iraqi Kurdistan Mine Action Agency (IKMAA)” for explosive ordnance clearance in Ninawa governorate and Kurdistan Region.

●Japan funded USD4mil (2016), USD4.3mil (2017) and USD4.5mil (2018) to UNMAS for assessment of explosive risks, risk education, training courses for capacity development of mine action authorities.
