1 Japanese Cultural Exhibition at the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair 2018 August 26-28, 2018 The Japanese exhibition stand at the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair, set by the Embassy of Japan, JICA Namibia and the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCVs), attracted many people in Namibia across generation. H.E. Mr. N. Mbumba, Vice-President and Madam Mbumba visited Japan’s stand. Introduction of Japanese calligraphy: Participants wrote his/her name in Japanese. Many took photos with his/her piece.

Japanese Cultural Exhibition at the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair 2018 August 26-28, 2018

The Japanese exhibition stand at the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair, set by the Embassy of Japan, JICA Namibia and the Japan Overseas

Cooperation Volunteers (JOCVs), attracted many people in Namibia across generation.

H.E. Mr. N. Mbumba, Vice-President and Madam Mbumba visited Japan’s stand.

Introduction of Japanese calligraphy: Participants wrote his/her name in Japanese. Many took photos with his/her piece.

Introduction of traditional Japanese casual outfits for Summer, “YUKATA”: Participants across generation tried YUKATA and took photos. Some looked a bit shy and some looked very excited

“HAPPI”, a traditional Japanese festival gear, was also popular among participants.

Variety of Japanese traditional toys and play: Participants tried to pick & carry beans with chopsticks

Kite making workshop: JOCVs taught how to make a kite, utilising locally available materials. Kids run around the venue trying to make it fly high.

Variety of Japanese traditional toys and play, “KOMA” Spinning Top. Successful spin were applauded by audience.

Variety of Japanese traditional toys and play, “ORIGAMI” Paper folding craft. Participants got excited to see and try to transform a flat square paper into a finished sculpture.

KARATE Demonstration by a JOCV Karate performance by Japanese grabbed the spotlight.

Introduction of JOCVs’ activities: Japanese volunteers are closely working with Namibian counterparts across the country.

Information on studying in Japan (including scholarship opportunities), Japanese self-e-learning site, VISA, JICA’s activities were also provided at the Japan’s stand which attract more mature participants to the Japan’s stand.
