Japanese Television Programmes Now on Air!
CBC TV8 has begun to broadcast a series of television programmes from Japan. This
broadcasting is made possible by a project orchestrated by the Japan Foundation
which offers a variety of Japanese television programmes to TV stations around the
world.
See below the list of Japanese programmes coming to CBC:
1. Carnation
o Thursdays at 4:30 p.m.
o Repeated on Saturdays at 11:30 a.m.
2. Sushi & Beyond
o Saturdays at 12:30 p.m.
o Repeated on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m.
3. Tora-san
o Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
4. Iron Chef
o Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m.
5. Astro Boy
o Fridays at 3:30 p.m.

Broadcasting of Drama Series Carnation
CBC TV 8 is currently broadcasting the drama series Carnation every Thursday at
4:30 p.m. with repeats every Saturday at 11:00 a.m. This broadcasting is made
possible by a Japan Foundation project which offers a variety of Japanese television
programmes to TV stations around the world.
Carnation is a fictionalised account of the lives of the internationally-known fashion
designers, the Koshino sisters, and their remarkable mother. Weaving together tears
and laughter, this series shows the struggles of a woman who manages to achieve
success in the fashion industry, while raising three spirited daughters.

Broadcasting of Animation Series Sushi & Beyond
CBC TV 8 is currently broadcasting the animation series Sushi & Beyond every
Saturday at 12:30 p.m. with repeats every Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. This broadcasting is
made possible by a Japan Foundation project which offers a variety of Japanese
television programmes to TV stations around the world.
With Japanese food fast becoming popular worldwide, Sushi & Beyond follows a
British family on a culinary journey to Japan. One day, British food writer Michael
picks up a book on Japanese food, and instantly falls in love with it. Wanting to
experience for himself how real Japanese dishes taste, on the spur of the moment he
takes his wife and two children on a trip to Japan. The British family’s gastronomic
journey leads them to encounter all kinds of Japanese food and ingredients,
including pickled mackerel sushi, tofu, okonomiyaki, takoyaki, ramen, wasabi, soy
sauce, miso paste, and of course, Japanese sake!

Broadcasting of Drama series Tora-san
CBC TV8 is broadcasting the drama series Tora-san at 2:00 p.m. every Sunday. This
broadcasting was made possible by a Japan Foundation project which offers a
variety of Japanese television programmes to TV stations around the world.
Tora-san is a Japanese film series starring Kiyoshi Atsumi as Tora-san, a kind-hearted
vagabond who is always unlucky in love. Each film features a different leading lady,
called a Madonna, and a different region of Japan. The series holds the Guinness
World Record for the longest-running movie series starring a single actor.

CBC TV8 is broadcasting the cooking series Iron Chef every Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
This broadcasting is made possible by a Japan Foundation project which offers a
variety of Japanese television programmes to TV stations around the world.
Iron Chef, the revolutionary culinary game show which appeals not only to your
visual tastebuds but also gets the adrenaline pumping!
Welcome to the Kitchen Stadium, where the host, Takeshi Kaga, stages yet another
cooking battle. Master chefs from near and far challenge one of the Iron Chefs, each
specializing in a different cuisine, to see who can prepare the most tantalizing and
creative dishes within one hour featuring the single theme ingredient of the day.
Live commentary and sideline reports are added throughout the one-on-one cooking
battle, and a star-studded team of judges then tastes the results.

Broadcasting of Animation Series Astro Boy
CBC TV 8 is currently broadcasting the animation series Astro Boy every Friday at
3:30 p.m. This broadcasting is made possible by a Japan Foundation project which
offers a variety of Japanese television programmes to TV stations around the world.
Astro Boy is the story of a boy robot who normally lives the life of an ordinary
elementary school child, yet fights villains with 100,000 horsepower when any
trouble comes around. The animation Astro Boy, originally produced in the 1960s,
was the first ever Japanese animated television series. Due to its immense success,
the work has been remade several times afterward. The current version being
broadcast is the second remake version made in 1980.
