Illinois Antiquity, Volume 52, Number 1 Illinois Association for Advancement of Archaeology Annual Meeting, April 22 - 23, 2017 Jarrett Prairie Center, Byron, Illinois Time is moving quickly and soon the IAAA annual meeting will be upon us. As announced earlier, the meeting will take place on the weekend of April 22 and 23. This means our meeting will fall on Earth Day. What better way to spend the day than with others interested in archaeology? We will gather at the Jarrett Prairie Center, the headquarters of the Byron Forest Preserve in Byron, Illinois. Located about 15 miles south of Rockford, and about 20 miles west of Interstate 39, the Jarrett Prairie Center will give us grand views of a limestone prairie, and allow us to tour the newly renovated Jarrett Prairie Center Museum and neighboring Heritage Farm Museum that illustrates changes in farming from 1840 to 1970. In addition to our business meeting, we will have an afternoon symposium on prehistoric lifeways along the Rock River, which runs past the conference site. Before you head home on Sunday, you can tour several prehistoric sites including two mound groups, a village site, and a shell midden. Details are being finalized but we can announce that there will be NO COST for attending this year’s meeting except for an optional box lunch on Saturday (amount to be determined).
